Imperial Decree #182: Heir to the Throne

Post by Kaiser Alejian I »

Date: The second Hasanday of BiternionsmoonPlace: Imperial palace, throne room.Time: 10:32pmReason: Official imperial celebration of La Fiesta de la Bo0o/\/\!As the nobles of the land began to show up one by one, they were quickly greeted by the imperial servants, and ushered into the throne room. They were all here for the celebration of the Boom. Cedrism's most sacred holiday. It was unkown to any and all why this day was chosen to celebrate it instead of the second Fishday, but many suspected it to have been delayed because of the problem over rights of passage with Cranda and Stormark over the jaris/Cognito straight and the Gulf of Ghawlama. From his private chamber above, Kaiser Alejian Grifos I watched the guests arrive one by one from all parts of the empire. This would be a meeting none would soon forget. Alejian sat deep in his chair as he looked. The room was dark, lit only by candles. Alejian had not been feeling well lately. He barely had the strength to finish his buisness tonight. That was why he decided tonight would be the night for this. He stood up, slowly, like a fawn first learning to walk. He called for an attendant to steady him. Indeed was the life flowing from him fast. With help, he made his way to the doorway of his throneroom. His throneroom. Such an odd thought to still think of it that way. No, it was not his anymore. He was simply using it one last time. He nodded to a waiting servant, and she quickly gave him a potion to drink. It would give him the temporary strength he needed to still appear strong. With his vitality restored, however temporarily, the door was opened and he made his way to the platform. With many waves, and handshakes, and cheering and applauding to dodge, he tried to make his way as fast as he could to the stage. With lifted arms, he prepared to make his speech.Let me tell you a story.Once a upon a time, a land was in turmoil. The king had abdicated, and left no heir. It looked like this poor country was going to break up and splinter. Finally though, it was decided that a certain man would choose a sucessor. No matter how many people he looked at, including himself, he couldn't find the right man. Too radical, not enough interest, too much political conflict, too many choices that didn't fit the mood of the country. Finally it was decided that someone who would uphold the status quo needed to be chosen. This person was me.From my coronation ceremony to this present speech, I feel all I have ever done was uphold the way things were, never helping nor hindering. At the time of my coronation I can see that this was needed, but now things are different. We stand at the dawn of a new era. Once again Shireroth begins to thrive, like a mighty phoenix in it's rebirth. I feel that now I no longer have the ability to properly hold the sword of vengeance. Someone with more vision then I hold is needed. I have consulted my council, I have sought the people, I have prayed to my gods, I have seen the signs, and I have listened to the mighty sword. It has chosen someone new to weild it.Scott Alexander, lately of Yardistan; step forth. Your hour is at hand. Kneel and recieve the sword that now beats with your pulse.

I kneel, and take the sword of Vengeance.Alejian, yours is the Celestial Temple; be united with she for whom you were named and with your honored predecessors. You have served well, the nation endures, and the line of Grifos will be the richer for your reign. Those of you who sought the throne with me, I will not be so arrogant as to claim I was the noblest or the best among you, but I am he who was chosen and I expect the same service and fealty I would have given you in your place. Your ideas and plans were such as to do credit to your noble blood, and with your permission and your aid I do intend to see many of them put to practice. Should you continue to desire the Golden Mango Throne through future generations of rulers, no doubt the gods will aid you as you seek your well-deserved prize.People of Shireroth - I take the throne tomorrow, August 1, Lughnasa, the old Celtic festival of the changing seasons. Today is the coronation day of our good friend Nathan I of the Kingdom of Natopia, and I do not begrudge it of him. Eat, drink, and be merry in King Nathan's honor, attend his masquerade ball, and return at midday tomorrow. Edited by: Scott of Hyperborea  at: 7/31/05 20:33

Ah, well, Greg, it's been wonderful advising you. You actually don't give yourself enough credit. You had a pretty event-filled reign and you handled it quite gracefully. I'm proud that you were my successor in Yardistan and that you have done a great job in Shireroth as a whole. And Scott, you are wise and you've been here almost as long as I have. I trust you and your sarcasm to serve the empire well. Los I was an impressive Kaiser. Los II and I just had, well, creative differences, but I nonetheless trust in your future reign. All hail the Kaiser! 3e knowe ek that in fourme of speche is chaunge / With-inne a thousand 3eer, and wordes tho / That hadden pris now wonder nyce and straunge / Us thenketh hem, and 3et thei spake hem so, / And spedde as wel in loue as men now do...

I'm sorry Zirandorthel, but Alejian Grifos I is allready dead. He is at peace with his ancestors in the Grifos family tomb. Mors rest his soul. There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

What IS a Boomist funeral like, anyway? If nothing's been established about that, I recommend setting him in a ship like the Vikings... but instead of burning it, set timed explosives in it so that it bursts into a blaze of glory upon the horizon!

Then the salt shall be but a small part of the possessions he carries with him in his great incendiary pyre, and the new Kaiser shall hold this petty reminder of his predecessor. Wil Nider to the HyperboreansEoin to the restZirandorthel to the ages
