I hate Rome Total War
wtf, I order my hastati to attack the flanks of the enemy phalanxes as they push through my walls, but somehow they walk all the way around them in order to get slaughtered directly in front of them.I never managed to pull utter defeat out of the jaws of victory so amazingly before. SF-SN

I gave up with samuri total war in the tutorial.the narrator said "if you army starts in a good position, you will be unbeatable. The enemy are in a perfect position. Beat them."and that's it. If you feel an icy chill...the Conglacio is amongst you

Never played that one. I've only played this one and Medieval, and medieval total war was far superior tactically on every level. Rome Total War feels too much like another cheesy RTS game when you fight battles. It also has all of the tactical subtleties of a cheesy RTS game. SF-SN

I LOVED Samurai: Total War... There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Rome Total War is inferior. Medieval was fucking awesome though. In that game, tactics and choosing your ground actually mattered. In Rome, the only thing you do every battle is flank the enemy with your cavalry. SF-SN

Well, at least it's historically accurate then. I don't believe Roman military strategy involved anything beyond the phalanx, cavalry flanking, and superior numbers. Viatax Sitadi Axdivijink Regigoraauk

Re: I hate Rome Total War
Was it not called Shogun: Total War?I always wanted to play Rome, never got the chance to. Now the expansion pack is out. It's imaginatively called the Barbarian Invasion. I mean, seriously, can't they think up any other kind of name?? Anyway, the shops are full of the expansion pack, but there's narry an original game to be seen...typique.
Re: I hate Rome Total War
http://www.amazon.comShips worldwide, oh unwise Kaison. And you can usually get used copies or bundle packs cheaper. And sadly, I've lost my appetite for strategy games. The only two that still appeal to me are Dungeon Keeper 2 and Europa Universalis II (especially the awesome mods from the Paradox forums). Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

What they need to do is make a new medieval total war with the strategic aspects of Rome, but not with its tactical flaws. It's not historically accurate at all, because ground is actually supposed to matter. SF-SN
Re: I hate Rome Total War
WarVoid, Europa II is seriously kick-arse I agree. Both me and Steven from Antica were sharing some anecdotes from the game yesterday..For me, the only games I play these days are Tropico and Hearts of Iron II.

God...Victoria is much better than Hearts of Iron II. I love that game. Europa Universalis II and Victoria are by far the most replayable games ever. I'm currently playing a game as Japan...and the Russians are attacking. I beat the Chinese and took Korea and Manchuria and also Shanghai...Now, I'm at war with Russia, and Britain is my ally. I want to take control of Vladivostok.Rome Total War is nice...I'm playing a game as Barbarian Invasion as the Western Roman Empire and the Huns are coming down on me in the East near the Dalmatian Coast and the Saxons are coming in the North...Which is historically accurate.
Re: I hate Rome Total War
I have yet to actually buy Victoria or HoI2. Although HoI1 didn't appeal to me that much, hence I'm hesitant in buying the sequel. Victoria I hear is much better.Currently I'm hooked on the Mongol Empire mod for EUII.Baltic Tribes are kickin ass. Pagan Europeans re-conquering the continent. mwahahaha Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

Fuck, the non-Roman civs suck in Rome Total War. Fuckin' lame.Back to Victoria! SF-SN
Re: I hate Rome Total War
The Mongol mod basically covers the conquests of Genghis Khan and places nations all over Siberia. Such as the Tatars and Altai. And of course Europe is a divided mess. It makes for some excellent campaigns. Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

I usually just use the VIP Grand Campaign, playing as a smaller country (one of the Balkan states, Finland...once as Newfoundland. haha). My major power games are usually with the Ottoman Empire. Tried playing with Russia once but it was an organizational nightmare. SF-SN

Re: I hate Rome Total War
Yeah. I know what you mean. First of all, to industrialize it is a pain because...it's too frickin huge. I can never seem to get the hang of the Ottomans. I can never hold off the Russians really well and I really can't gain any land. I have never been able to succesfully unify Germany in the game either. I always get through Austria and Denmark really well but I never can beat the French. Next time I try as them I want to try a new strategy of taking all the German states that are dependent on Austria and annexing them so I'm really big when I take on France. The United States is a fun campaign. I once took over Canada and Mexico as the US. Currently I'm playing as the Japanese which is fun because you pick off China really slowly.

I've never had a huge problem with the Russians, but part of what I do is narrow the frontline. In the beginning of the game, I actually release my Balkan states as satellites, so the Russians can only attack me overland through the Caucauses, and that's a good place to be defending. SF-SN
Re: I hate Rome Total War
I just got my copy of Victoria off of Amazon today! w00t!It kicks ass!Strange though that they don't have Mongolia as a satellite, but they've got Bavaria and the Turkmen Khanates as playable factions.... Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

Re: I hate Rome Total War
I noticed that too. Kinda weird. It might still be playable though. Some factions can only be released after certain points in the game. For example, Albania can't be released until 1912. SF-SN
