Cool places to study in
Cool places to study in
Looking at different unis/polytechnics around Europe, and I'm wondering where would a good place be for studying a bachelor's (and maybe a master's afterwards). Doesn't matter what discipline :-PJust wondering where a good place to study (and affordable) would be, wherever in the world... (preferably not the USA, as qualifications from there are difficult to transfer to Europe).A Bologna country should also be preferred methinks.

Manchester or Leeds... top dog for nights out... the qualifications are reasonably well respected as well. Though if you get the grades try for the unis rather than the polys. Edited by: Osman Shahanshah at: 11/12/05 10:04

Two citizens have gone to Trinity, so it's a Shirerithian tradition. Come here. If you're a citizen of the EU I think you get in pretty easily, plus they like foreign students who have to pay..

Memorial University of Newfoundland is ranked fifth in the country. They're actively recruiting more international students too http://www.mun.caMind you, not as good as those University of Waterloo bastards in Ontario. But hey, competing with Waterloo is like Britain going against the United States in a war...Britain would lose hands down now.

The problem with Ivy League ones are that they're way too expensive for me... Thanks for all your suggestions. Newfoundland seems really interesting. Richard LyonYansha Elaer Kyon gef ShanPernem kahn gef kuymal per varga stiPernem kahn gef varga per kuymal sti

Also, if you were to go to Memorial to pursue certain arts degrees, you can complete part of your program at the MUN campus is Harlow, England. Not sure how the system exactly works (if you can go there more than for just one summer semester).PS. Likewise, if you do a French degree, you can, after your first year in the French program, finish your degree at MUN's Frecker Institute located in Saint Pierre et Miquelon, France. Because USA qualifications are generally regarded as being inferior to those of European educational institutions.Ivy League schools are called such because the buildings have ivy growing on them, and in the USA, whose history is so short as to be negligible, only a few colleges are actually old enough to have this prestigious foliage. That's what I was told anyway.

Sorta.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_LeagueQuote:The Ivy League is an athletics association, founded in 1954, of eight institutions of higher education located in the eastern United States. The term has connotations of academic excellence, extreme selectiveness in admissions, and a certain amount of elitism. All of the Ivy League institutions share some general characteristics: They are among the most prestigious and selective schools in the U.S. They represent seven of the nine colonial colleges founded before the American revolution (the two remaining being the public universities Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and The College of William and Mary); they consistently place close to the top of college and university rankings; they rank within the top one percent of the world's academic institutions in terms of financial endowment; they attract top-tier students and faculty; and they have relatively small undergraduate populations, ranging between 4,079 for Dartmouth College and 13,700 for Cornell University. The Ivies are also all located in the Northeast region of the United States and are among the oldest universities in the country—all but Cornell University were founded during America's colonial era. Notably, the Ivies also prohibit the offering of athletic scholarships to students in most cases; this ban differentiates Ivy teams from those of schools that permit students to receive scholarships to attend or to join a team. Quote:Named after the ivy plants that traditionally cover their buildings, the term Ivy League was first coined informally to refer to these institutions of higher education which compete in both scholastics and sports. Formally, it also refers to the association of these schools in NCAA Division I athletic competition. The Ivy League universities are often simply called the Ivies or, affectionately, the Ancient Eight. The term "Ivy League" refers strictly to the original eight universities. However, the prestige associated with the Ivy League has given rise to similar terms that connote perceived preeminence within various realms of American higher education: "Jesuit Ivy", "Little Ivies", "Public Ivies", etc. These terms are strictly colloquial and have no relation to the original eight schools. I would recommend UAH, University of Alabama at Huntsville, where I go:* Located in Madison County, which is atypical of most of the American South.* multinational students (many Chinese, Indians, Arabs...but few native Europeans hmmm...)* multinational professors, research teams* ultramodern, high profile campus* http://www.uah.edu Shirerothian PatriotPrince of Byzantia
