Stjepan!

Post by Ryan »

Hey man, i'm travelling to eastern Europe in Febuary for two weeks. In particular i'll be staying in Chisinau, Moldavia, for two weeks with my girlfriend. You're an American, so you can grasp the situation of being a foreigner. Of course, you can already speak the lingo (dunno about Romanian and Russian, but eh).Any recommendations for travelling in that particular part of the world?AIM me if you have some free time to chat about it. Moldova? Odd choice.Unfortunately, I don't know too much about it except that the primary languages are Romanian and Russian, so phrase books in both would be a good idea.Since Moldova is a bit...different from most other central and eastern european countries, I would check out any government travel advisories. These would probably mention some warnings against travelling to the Trans-Dneistr region which would probably be a good idea to avoid. Moldova is basically falling apart, and that area is the faultline of its collapse. I'm sure your aware of the self-declared state there. Gagauzland on the other hand, though it was at war with the government in the early 90's, should be relatively ok now. Also, avoid displaying "Americanness" and money as much as possible. Moldova is a monumentally poor with an extremely corrupt, increasingly authoritarian government. By Moldovan standards, a person with an average American salary is pretty rich. It'll be just like the old days of the PRNSE.Me waving that old Soviet flag, leading a column of T-55's down the street as I launch a coup d'etat. Now let's hope the retards at the CIA don't see this as they review my passport application... Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

On the bright side, most of the Moldovan girls I met over this past summer were sufficiently attractive.Although that won't do much good for you, Ryan, so...uh...have fun in the homeland of O-Zone... SF-SN
