EU-fied Cucumbers
I remember that about 11 years ago there was a referendum in Sweden whether to join the EU or not. What I particilarly remember by this was that the "no" camp said that bent cucumbers would be prohibiter by the EU and we would all get straight ones. "Yeah" I thought with irony, "as if." And I actually laughed. I had never ever seen (then) a straight cucumber. I didn't think they existed. And the years passed and I didn't think about it. Now the cucumbers were all EU-fied and straight. And suddenly today I saw ONE bent cucumber. I was shockedWhat happened to all the bent cucumbers? Yes, as a matter of fact, there are bent cucumbers, though not the ones commonly eaten in salads and sandwiches. Pickling cucumbers are small, bent, bumpy, and light green, with a thinner skin than the standard dark, straight, smooth ones we are accustomed to seeing in the market.

Re: EU-fied Cucumbers
Is there a joke about cucumbers I should be getting, or is this truly just a random observation about European produce? *throws grenade for the hell of it*BO0O0O0O0/\/\!!!!!!
Re: EU-fied Cucumbers
Seriously, the Swedish bent cucumbers look like normal long cucumbers, just that they're bent...And staright ones were very rare in Sweden before we joined the EU. Richard LyonYansha Elaer Kyon gef ShanPernem kahn gef kuymal per varga stiPernem kahn gef varga per kuymal sti

Re: EU-fied Cucumbers
You can even do that in Finland. You know the funny looking houses made almost entirely of glass?

Re: EU-fied Cucumbers
That reminds me of a friend of mine. She was talking about her fingers and noted that in the cold they were bent on one hand but straight on the other. And then she started talking in English (this was in Sweden) and said: "My right hand's fingers are straight and my left hand's are..." and got stuck. And then she stopped singing and asked me in Swedish: "What is the opposite of straight?" Without answering she cheered out "gay!" and started singing again."My right hand's fingers are straight and my left hand's are gay!" And she burst into a twenty-minute laugh. Onour busride home she sang that continuously. Poor girl. How can you be so weird? And then she looked at me and asked: "Are you bent?"
