Well, move to Stormark's Ice Island!! You will feel at home there.
Re: I'm off south
Oh good, now you talk Swedish pretty much like me. I suck at prepositions.
I'm off south
It looks like I'm not moving north to Oslo. So I'm moving south to Devon. That means, hotter winters, hotter summers. And no snow. I will miss the snow. I love winters, I hate summers. I want snow.Anyway, this means that I'm becoming even more British (*hmmm*) and less Nordic. It's really difficult talking Swedish nowadays. Not difficult, but you make so many mistakes with prepositions, you just translate the English ones to Swedish and that screws my language up like... Urgh. But my brother is worse. He just can't speak Swedish. Shame really. But what I miss with Sweden are tripple-glazed houses on several hundred square metres which cost nothing. And I want real floors. If I see another carpet I'm gonna hang somebody.Ah well, we're buying a new built house down in Devon so if we're lucky we can get real floors. But tripple-glazing? And oh, I hate banks. They are all the same anyway. Halifax is owned by that "Royal" Scottish bank, Natwest is too. HSBC is probably aswell. I miss my firry trees too. And the lakes. But I'm not moving back to Sweden. Too many Swedes there. I don't like Swedes much. They're dry. Boring. So I'm gonna be officially British until I move somehwere else, like Mongolia.Long live the EU. Because of them I can get all these civil rights and vote rights and blah blah. And money. Blah...'(Sorry about this, I am sorta half dead, feverish with blood red eyes. Don't know what I'm talking about, heh.) Richard LyonYansha Elaer Kyon gef ShanPernem kahn gef kuymal per varga stiPernem kahn gef varga per kuymal sti

Ric--You'll be living in England? No wonder you're so upset--nice weather, not too much cold, and no bliizzards! But I do feel for you. The change will be dramatic, but I feel you'll come through it okay. I hope, also, that you will find a way to feel at home in your new environment. I would really misss those things, too, if I had ever had them. Let us know how the transition goes.I just looked up Devon on a map of England--I had no idea it was all the way at the south-west tip of England. You will be making a radical move--almost as severe as if my family suddenly moved from California to Alaska. I hope you can come to see this as a new adventure, and enjoy this new place anyway. Good luck. Edited by: hypatias mom at: 6/26/05 5:26

They want to kill the Viking inside him by moving him out of the Dane Law.
Re: I'm off south
Hehehe :-) My parents are planning to move to the Cook Islands after a few years. Atleast I am old enough then to move myself somewheer there people actually live!Oh, God. They are so weird... So southern England it is. Nice beaches there, nice moors. And actually a Swede or two except for my family. Ah, I might actually be able to eat surströmming. What is surstromming?
Re: I'm off south
Believe me, you don't want to know. It is possibly the most horrible mistreatment of a perfectly good fish known to man.

Re: I'm off south
Is it anything like lutefisk? That seems an abomination in itself. I personally prefer fresh or fresh-frozen fish, lightly grilled, with a bit of lemon, if I wish. A simple fish, treated gently. I know that many fish dishes were devised to make use of salt-dried, preserved fish. Is this one of these? Edited by: hypatias mom at: 6/29/05 12:24
Re: I'm off south
Lutfisk is just dull. It tastes nothing. I've only eaten it once. And to be honest, I've never eaten surströmming. Never dared. The smell... (there is a reason why Swedes eat it outside, and not inside)The only fish I really eat is either fishfingers (cos i can't be bothered doing anything else) or gravad lax. But it took me 16 years to realize that the fish was raw, and since then I haven't touched it. I'm stupid. I know. One thing you will find in abundance is fish and chips. Even though they are greasy, the flavor is absolutely heavenly, and you may just change the type of fish you eat. It 's served in most pubs, most restaurants, and yiu need to try it, since you're going to be living in a new culture. By the way, this fish is deep-fried, so you don't have to worry about the raw stuff. Edited by: hypatias mom at: 6/29/05 18:58

Re: I'm off south
Also, with fish and chips you will find that the relative greasyness will probably vary from place to place. If it's fried hot enough, the oil doesn't penetrate as deeply, and it doesn't taste very greasy at all. If it's fried too low, the oil will penetrate more and make it greasier. The first time you eat it, you might feel sick from the grease if it's not fried hot enough. That said, it's a wonderful meal, and is definitely something to try. I'm not a big fish person, but I love fish and chips. *throws grenade for the hell of it*BO0O0O0O0/\/\!!!!!!

I don't eat fish where I live. There's just something about being so far inland, you have a rough idea just how far those fish must have come.... Operation Suck Ciaron Dry!

I do like fish and chips...best way to eat it is when walking home on a cool evening, from the paper wrapper, preferably with family or friends...it's what fish was invented for.
Re: I'm off south
I've never tried fish and chips...
Re: I'm off south
Neither have I. Perhaps I should try those next week when I'll be in Dublin.
