Forum Arrangement?
This is a little something I dug up from the archives on my old Hard Drive... I haven't read through it all, so I can't say whether I still agree with my reasoning, but I still think it made/makes some sense.I think this was a proposal to the Landsraad, but I can't recall (nor find, thanks to the EzBug) whether I actually proposed it. Certainly it's obsolete given that we have many new fora, but it's the method of arrangement I agree with (especially with MiniEx and MiniImNat being one category and going up top).Quote:((I have moved my specific reasoning to the bottom so you don't all have to read through it to find the proposal.))While I believe it is within my powers as Minister of the Interior to reorganize the fora on the board, I believe that my current plan for the forum organization may be a bit extreme, as not only does it rename and recreate the Categories, but it also involves combining fora. Thus I would like to clear this idea with the Landsraad first. The end result would, IMHO, look really spiffy, and be really easy to navigate, as well as allow prospective immigrants and allies to get a feel for the actual organization of our government. This is my proposal:Category: Ministry of the InteriorForum: General DiscussionForum: News and Announcements (Current Info/Int) Forum: Office of the Minister of the Interior (New)Forum: Census Bureau (to be combined with the current Polling Station) Category: Ministry of the ExteriorForum: Department of Foreign Affairs (Current MiniEx) Forum: Department of Immigration and Naturalization (Current MiniImNat)Category: Legislature Forum: Kaiser's Court Forum: The Landsraad Forum: Landsraad Front Gate Forum: Landsraad Passed Bills Forum: Landsraad Archives (relocated historic forum)Category: Subdivisions Forum: Duchy of Brookshire Forum: Barony of Alexandretta Forum: Duchy of Goldshire Forum: Barony of Lunaris Forum: Dutchy of Kildare Forum: Barony of the Kitanus Fields Forum: Barony of Schlangen Forum: Barony of Nova Dalmacija Forum: Duchy of Elwynn Forum: Barony of Hyperborea Forum: Territory of Cimmeria Forum: Duchy of Yardistan Forum: Barony of Amity and Mirioth Forum: Duchy of Lothlaria Category: Ministry of InformationForum: Ministry of Research and Education Forum: University Hall Forum: School of the Culinary Arts Forum: Ministry of Technology (A.S.T.R.O. threads moved to the Landsraad Archives forum and the forum renamed)Category: Ministry of Trade Forum: Imperial Bank (current Ministry of Trade)Forum: The Great Marketplace Category: Ministry of Military Affairs Forum: Public Office Forum: Ministry of Defense (current MoMA)Forum: Ministry of Peace (current Intelligence Headquarters)Forum: Ministry of War (current Secret Evil Plans)Forum: Target Range Category: Miscellaneous Forum: B0O0/\/\ist Temple Forum: The Multi-Temple Forum: Shirekeep Intl Airport & Stadium Forum: Testing Category: Archives Forum: Archive - General Discussion I Forum: Archive - General Discussion II Forum: Archive - Ministry Forum: Archive - Foreign Affairs Forum: Archive - Classified Forum: Archive - Barony Of Straylight Forum: Archive - The Shireroth Band Project Forum: Archive - BGI Games Now, let me explain my reasoning behind this.First off, the Ministry of the Interior is vested with the duty of maintaining national communications. Therefore, it only makes sense that the most used conduit for said communications, the General Discussion forum, be categorized with his ministry. Similarly, as the General discussion forum is the most used and referenced of all, it should be at the top of the board. Now, the second forum, the News and Announcements forum, is renamed in my proposal, to match its Historic Forum title. It is placed second on the board, because News and Announcements should be among the most public forms of communications, and should be easily accessible. It should be converted from the Ministry of Information and the Interior, because right now, that is the main purpose of the forum. The third forum, the Office of the Minister of the Interior, is there for reference purposes. Anyone needing to know something about the country, the board, the website, or having a request regarding such things, should post their requests there. Such requests would be dealt with by the Minister himself, the Minister of Naturalization, or the Minister of Research and Education, depending on the nature of the request. It would be a place any person can go for guidance. The Census Bureau is combined with the Polling Station in this proposal, for they are in effect, quite the same. The main difference is that the actual Bimestrial Census has political effect, whereas the Polling Station does not. Any citizen may post an informal poll or census, but the main purpose of the forum is to conduct the legal Census every two months. Now, I bet you're all wondering why the Ministry of the Exterior has its own category, considering that the foreign Embassies were abolished years ago. Well, the thing is - when other nations come to our country seeking international relations, they will want to know where to inquire. Nothing says "Inquire Here" quite like a big sign near the top of the board proclaiming "MINISTRY OF THE EXTERIOR" (except maybe a sign proclaiming "Inquire Here" The Ministry of Immigration and Naturalization is already classified under "Foreign Ministries", and for good reason too. Immigration is an External affair, and as such should be categorized under the Ministry of the Exterior. This act does not require that the MiniEx run MiniImNat; they can still be separate Ministries. This act simply changes the name of the current MiniEx to MoFA, or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I call them departments for two reasons: 1) they are essentially parallel branches of the same ministry, with one dealing at the macro level and one at the micro, and 2) the name "Department" is in the historical forum name, "departmentofimmigrationandnaturalization".The only thing I changed in the next category was the category's name, from "Government" to "Legislature". The fact of the matter is, most of Shireroth's fora are government, simply different sections, or branches, thereof. Since the Kaiser's Court is used primarily for Kaiserial Decrees, and the Landsraad is used primarily for lawmaking, I decided that the most fitting name for this section of our government is "Legislature".I left the Subdivisions alone, because I really like the way they are arranged, although I may (with permission of course) decide somewhere along the way to arrange all the flags like those of Goldshire and Lunaris', to make for less scroll time. The next category is written as the "Ministry of Information". Now, I realize that MoRE and MiniTech are not under the Ministry of Information, but since Information and Interior split, the only real work MiniInfo has is outside of the board, with the Site. There is little to no need for the Ministry of Information to have its own office (as of yet) on the board. However, I observed (and I hope someone else did as well) that the Ministry of Research and Education's main purpose is to gather and promote understanding of (two guesses) INFORMATION. So my long-term goal is to officially merge the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Research and Education. This is not in this act, of course, but it clarifies why I am arranging them this way. The Ministry of Technology is mainly the "Research" branch of the MoRE, so I decided to group it therewith. I decided to place this category below the Subdivisions, because it is not vital to the everyday operation of the nation, and is quite optional for the majority of citizens as is. Also, it is closer to the Archives (where else does information come from?). Oh, and the Ministry of Technology is a historic forum currently occupied by the Landsraad Archives. Threads will be moved to resync the fora. The arrangement of the Ministry of Trade quite speaks for itself. If ever we do get an up-and running economics sim again, it can be moved above the subdivisions, but for the time being, we do not. So down it stays. Now I am aware that the majority of you cannot see most of the fora in the Military section. This is because they are classified. Don't worry, you really aren't missing out on much. They were mainly created for back in the day, and don't get much use now. However, it is there. The public office will still be visible to commoners, but I intend for the rest to remain secure. The Ministry of Defense will be the main hangout for the Shirithian Militias, and most of the general military discussion will go on there. It should be either made secure, or the "Secure Access" tag should be removed.I renamed the Intelligence Headquarters the Ministry of Peace, because the acquisition of foreign intelligence is a peaceful act (even if it is Military). This should be a secure forum used to house international secrets and such. Also, I just love the name "MiniPax".The Secret Evil Plans will be renamed the Ministry of War, because most military Evil Plans lead to war anyways. This will be a secure forum used to discuss the same old Evil Plans, just without advertising it to the world... unless they happen to read this proposal...Now the second to last category I had some trouble naming. I intended to name the category "Culture", and put in it all the religion, sports, and societies (such as the late SoPWLtFTWwOP)... but then I would be left over with the Archives, and the one odd-forum out... the Testing forum. I don't believe in making categories for only one forum. So I gave up on the Culture idea and just called it Miscellaneous. If ever we get another non-culture miscellaneous forum, then I will separate them again. The archives speak for themselves. None of you but admin can see them right now, which is why I allow so many of them to accumulate. I did nothing with them, and if I were to do something with them, it wouldn't concern all of you (unless it were the deletion thereof... which would be bad). So, Landsraad. Speak amongst yourselves. I do not need this to be an official vote, but I would like to hear your opinions. I have no opinion on the proposal, but I'd really like to see you get those temporary forums finally out of the way. They're getting pretty annoying, and we don't need any more reminders of lost stuff than we already have. Jag har glömt hur pjäserna stod!

I'll put it before the mostly-dead landsraad if there's good response here. And who would have thought that my fate, it would conjure this twist in the road on which I have wandered? Each vision and dream now completely dismembered, to give one's whole life and find nothing's remembered...And what good is a life that leaves nothing behind? Not a thought or a dream that might echo in time
Re: Forum Arrangement?
Hmmmmm. Makes no less sense than our current arrangement, I suppose... my main argument is that I like the Kaiser's Court and the Landsraad relatively near the top, but other than that...

Re: Forum Arrangement?
It may be a bad argument in general, but I like the arrangement we have now, largely because I'm used to it, and it works well.Joe's been moving fora around to some degree for a while, especially when he consolidated and archived several fora before the ezboard attack. I'm not too thrilled by the proposed organization, though it makes some sense, and I don't think it really needs to be legislated. Why legislate it when he has essentially been doing this (because it falls under his duties as MiniInt, I believe) all along to a lesser degree? *throws grenade for the hell of it*BO0O0O0O0/\/\!!!!!!

Re: Forum Arrangement?
Something of that magnitude ought to be legislated because it effects the nation as a whole and our productivity. Of course, he can legally do whatever he wants to the board (remember his fuck-up when we did the duchy reorg a few months ago), so unless the Landsraad actually does something useful and counters his ability to do so, no legislation is "necessary".Anyway, forum reorgs don't do jack shit. They're a waste of time. I've seen maybe three or four now here. Never did anything useful. Leave things as they are. People are used to things this way, and moving things around just causes unnecessary bewilderment on the part of citizens. 3e knowe ek that in fourme of speche is chaunge / With-inne a thousand 3eer, and wordes tho / That hadden pris now wonder nyce and straunge / Us thenketh hem, and 3et thei spake hem so, / And spedde as wel in loue as men now do...

I guess that's what happens. 3e knowe ek that in fourme of speche is chaunge / With-inne a thousand 3eer, and wordes tho / That hadden pris now wonder nyce and straunge / Us thenketh hem, and 3et thei spake hem so, / And spedde as wel in loue as men now do...

If you don't do this, I may have to, which would probably be a gross abuse of my currently-nonexistent powers.

Not exactly back, and not exactly a slow day, but I'm finally in an area with sufficiently cheap Internet cafes to justify my being here.
