PHYSICS NERDS UNITE!Count me in. Pehaps a nice 10-planet system? I never liked it that our solar system only had 9 when Bob could have just as easily plopped a 10th in there to make us perfectionists feel all happy about our base 10 numerical system.

That sounds nice. Would seem odd if we would have the same number of planets as our system anyway. Though perhaps we should at least see what we have in terms of suggestions. I'm fine with that. If Tarsica is offical via decree, that's fine with me. Atropos can be an alternate cultural name by Soloralists. (as there are different words people use for Micras, etc)Claimable... By this you mean no colonies, right? Would probes/exploration be allowed, however? Atos System Redux
Right. Well, it seems like we lost the information of the Atos System with the ezBoard destruction of old archives. But not to worry. There are plenty of people who would be interested in a project like this. Let me start saying this:The Atos System Project is a project in which micronationalists create descriptions for the planets in the solar system in which the planet, Micras (The MCS planet) is in. I want this to be outside of Shireroth, and as much feedback from as many participants as possible. Why? Two reasons - first of all, I'd bet a good amount of us are physics nerds, given our backgrounds. Second of all, to bring us all together on something that we can all like. Here's how we will do this.First of all, we need to know the basics. Obviously, there is at least one planet in the Atos System - Micras. What we need to do is figure out what other planets there will be in the Atos System, what names they have, et cetera. We'll do this by allowing everyone suggest a planet and planet name and we'll vote/eliminate down to a reasonable number of planets. After this, we'll assign different planets to people. They would come up with the physical description of the planet. Micras will be special, obviously, especially since it's almost done. (through the MCS)Perhaps we could then make it "offical" in some way, by declaring the moon of Micras and such. What do you guys think? Are you interested? And if you people don't like the name of the star (Atos), I'm sure we can rename it. I have suggestions myself for planets, obviously, but I want others to have feedback as well. This should be a work done by a lot of micronationalists, anyone who is interested. Some given stuff already:Quote:1. The planet we are on is Micras.2. Micras has one moon named Tarsica. Tarsica is basically a friendlier version of Luna - more water, volcanic activity, extremely thin atmosphere and some minimal flora and fauna to sustain the eco-balance.3. None of these worlds will be claimable by MCS standards and that expanding offworld has been strictly forbidden by Ryan, Scott and Erik. Probes, Satellites, Sojourner Rovers, etc are fine, but no offworld claims.4. Another planet is Momiji, which is basically another Terran world with a more tropical climate, closer to the star than Micras.5. The results of this project belong to micronationalism as a whole; no one person, nation, or organization can claim credit and ownership for this project. Re: Atos System Redux
Three stipulations to my participation and endorsment of this project:1. You recognise Tarsica as Micras' only moon. I've already made this official through MCS decree a long time ago when Cibola was added. So that should be as given as Micras.2. You recognise Momiji as as one of those other planets. It already is done and i'd like to put it to good use.3. You admit full well beforehand that none of these worlds will ever be claimable by MCS standards and that expanding offworld has been strictly forbidden by me, Scott and Erik. And since the three of us combined form the Trinary of Light and Ultimate Power™, that decleration can never be broken. EDIT: Shit, old login.. Edited by: Ryan Caruso at: 6/10/05 18:01

No colonies.Probes. Satellites. Sojourner Rovers. Fine. Build all you like. But no offworld claims. As it is, Tarsica is unihabitable by our standards. It's basically a friendlier version of our own moon - more water, volcanic activity, extremely thin atmosphere and some minimal flora and fauna to sustain the eco-balance.

Dyson reminds me of a vacuum cleaner. If you think how planets have been named in RL, they are based on Gods etc of those who discovered them. Here, you would be more creating them than discovering them, perhaps once you work out a number of planets the person who works out the actuals for the planets (size, mass, stuff about the planet) could be considered the 'discoverer' and choose the name for the planet. Choosing names by committee would be a long drawn out process, if someone if willing to do some work perhaps there should be a reward. Its certainly an interesting concept, I would be interested in seeing it develop . Re: Atos System Redux
Dyson is a reference to the theoretical Dyson sphere idea, that if a sun could be synthetically created and contained, you could have a system of maximum efficiency by building the planet around the sun facing in, spinning it for gravity or something.Of course, the Imperials would have been brighter than to spin the shell, considering that would create ever-decreasing gravity out toward the poles, and only a ring area near the equator would be stable enough to be habitable. Somehow they would have to have synthesized gravity, possibly by saturated electromagnetic fields.Anyhow, I'll work that stuff out later. The point is that theoretically nobody knows this about Dyson, and it just looks like a humongous dry planet at the edge of the system. Tarsica is a cool name so I like that. No such promise on Momiji, but if you want it I don't really see why we can't put it in.Myself, I just want to see Indigo be one of the planets. I really liked that one. Monkey and Gottagobye had a certain charm to them as well. Harvey SteffkeSai'Kar's Memories LiveJournal - ranting about Shirerothian issues since fall 2004.

If we do indeed have 10 (or 8... I personally think 7 because I like the numbers 17... hey... maybe it can be 17...), where do you guys think Micras should be? second? fourth? maybe fifth if we have a lot?If it's below 9, I think it'd be pushing it to place Micras fourth or more. Rather, it would probably do better at Second or Third, more toward the former if we have even smaller. If we go with 10 or more, then we could probably go to Fourth of Fifth, so it all depends, I guess. Re: Atos System Redux
This is interesting, to be sure. But I don't really like the Maple name for our nearby planet. I mean, names of planets evolve from cultural themes of the main planet. Micras from Microns for example. But on the other hand, since the Grand Star people were the first space visitors, and they all spoke "Japanese", perhaps they were the ones "naming" the planet. Hmm?What if we made somekind of fictitious space exploration ("first Micran on Mimiji")? Would nations be able to build bases on Mimiji and that moon (Indigo? Tacaradakkkakka? I'll call it "Moon"), like when I look on a map of Antarctica I see no claims, but small dots saying "Vostok (Russia)" or "Zhongshan (China)". yeah, small settlements. No large swaths of land available for claim, just dots. I like that idea. It allows for wonderful star wars esque battles while still appeasing those who don't want to see interplanetary colonization.
