That really depends on your definition of "cause".Really, religion, whether stated blatantly or conveniently masked behind the guise of a state *coughlibertyandjusticeforallcough*, is the only thing that keeps us in society, because by religion we share common morality which allows us to form armies to keep the OTHER away.Religion has caused more deaths, whether directly or indirectly, but ultimately it is a great benifit to society, whether it is a benefit to any individual or not. Bah. That should be a simple picket-sign emoticon, rather than a "STFU Bill" emoticon that people have been using it for. Bill, I happen to agree. Perhaps the picket sign should read: "Picketing" instead of STFU Bill. It does nothing but run you down each time the emoticon is used.

I have bad blood with religion. And as a student who is aiming towards a professional education in history, my own research shows religion causes more problems than it does to fix them.As I said, it is bad blood and not a subject I care to discuss at length. I've said my say and that's all i'm going to say about it. Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

WarvoidThat's fine. If you have come to that conclusion through careful research. Often people who make that claim have no idea of the 100s of millions who have died because of Secular governments (a greater total then that in all religious wars combined.) God Bless, AdamBill,Quote:Archetype, think about how you are acting. Stop being so defensive and uppity. If you want your reputation back (which is pretty easy for most people) and not have people hate you all over again, you'd have to act different. I have no ill feelings towards Warvoid. He knows this. People who make that blanket statement usually have an axe to grind with religion, and don't realize the ammount of deaths caused by secularism.Wanting evidence isn't being bad Bill. Please don't look for reasons to talk about my Character. I have done nothing bad to you. It is not your place to tell me how to act ok? This message isn't hostile either please don't take it that way. I don't want any reputation back for the record. I apologised for hurting people, not for who I am today. People can decide whether they like me or not based on how I treat them now. I believe the only person trying to dig up old issues to attack me with.. is well you. I haven't asked you once since I've returned to apologise to all those you have hurt, and the damge you have caused, so before you try to clean my house straighten up yours first.Lets just be cool man. Peace,AdamEdit: Thanks Bill for the Apology you gave me in AIM for your posts. Much Appreciated man. Edited by: ProdigalSon523 at: 6/10/05 20:17

//tries to stay out of the religious debate because he knows he'll just have to explain animism all over again. And who would have thought that my fate, it would conjure this twist in the road on which I have wandered? Each vision and dream now completely dismembered, to give one's whole life and find nothing's remembered...And what good is a life that leaves nothing behind? Ok, I have only read sparse parts of this, but there will be *~NO~* religious arguements in this forum while I am Kaiser. We believe what we believe, end of story. Argue over in the infinite Moose chat(tm) if you want to do this. This thread will have no further debates of that sort or it will be closed. *goes Ming on all your butts!*...*wonders how many people even REMEMBER Ming...*

I don't believe in God but if his existance was proved I know with a certainty that I would move from disbelief to hatred. God is revealed from 'his' primary sources to be of a duplicitous nature, the God of the Old Testement and the Koran can scarecely conceal its bloodlust, demanding the slaughter of unbelievers while holding murder to be a mortal sin. When Jehovah exorts the Hebrews to commit genocide in Canaan, he and the tyrants of the 20th century could easily have been boon companions.Of course God, if he exists as an omnipotent and omniscient being, makes a mockery of Human free will. If he told Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, he must surely have known in advance that they would disobey him once the serpent had spoken its honeyed words to Eve. It must then have been a deliberate folly placing a commandment in the full knowledge that it would be disobeyed. Why would a God who created humans to be curious seek to deny them knowledge? Is there no lesson to be learnt from Genisis except that ignorance is the wisest policy when it comes to relations with the creator? Is Satan being used as God's agent? If so to what end, since God must know the evil of the outcome of the banishment of Man from the Garden of Eden in advance, and isn't it a tad perverse to taint all the billions of sons and daughters of Adam with "original sin". Surely such a God should be hated as a tyrant rather than loved as a saviour? Otherwise we are led to the arguement that whatever God does is good because he is God, then in theistic terms we are in the territory of Islam, abject and unquestioning submission to the amoral Allah.Again with the Tower of Babel God is seen to be so conceited and egotistical that he fears it when "the people are one, and they have all one language, and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do" then it is out of envy that allegedly, according to the narrative of his own believers, that God confounds the languages of Man. God's glory and egotism is shown to be more important than the human race being able to cooperate peacefully. What can be discerned from this incident if not that God wants humanity divided and at each others throats. From the Tower incident it is clear that the God of the Biblical narrative has given man free will but will punish them most severely if they actually use it (see also Noah's flood and the unfortunate fate of Sodom).Further with regards to Noah and the flood. Why did God bother creating all the generations between Adam and Noah? If he was going to kill off the bulk of humanity, including men women and children as well as guiltless insensible animals to say nothing of the plants and he knew it in advance why in the hell didn't he just start with Noah in the beginning? It is a tad odd that the almighty has failed singularly to provide clear and unquestionable direction for the race allegedly made in his own image. Instead confusion and conflict abounds quite nicely.

8/10 from this angle. The Noah incident was to drill it into our mind that God is not afraid of such devastating punishment. Unfortunately, he ruined it for himself by giving us the rainbow as a promise against it. I guess that's just another way God's an idiot. La.Good show, Ardy.
