You named a library after me!
I was searching for stuff on Google, and one of the webpages happened to be a thread from the Shireroth board, so I thought I'd go check it out. Then I see that the forum is called the Tony Au Memorial Library, and I have to say that I'm flattered that you guys actually remembered me.As a short update on my life, I'm a senior in high school now and I still live in Michigan, but this will be my last year. I'll be attending Yale University next year, so I'll soon be living in Connecticut. How has everyone been? I'd love a short summary of what's been going on with everybody in the past two years. Also, what's been going on with Shireroth in the past two years?(No, I don't plan on coming back. At least I don't plan on it....)

You're alive. That's good to see.The naming the Library and the University was my idea back when I was the MoRE. I asked around for names of important Shirerothians, and it was generally agreed that your name should grace the Library. 3e knowe ek that in fourme of speche is chaunge / With-inne a thousand 3eer, and wordes tho / That hadden pris now wonder nyce and straunge / Us thenketh hem, and 3et thei spake hem so, / And spedde as wel in loue as men now do...Edited by: Gryphon Avocatio at: 5/10/05 23:29

Well holy cow, you never know who'll show up outta the woodwork!Good to see you're still alive man. To sum up two years for you in a single sentence - Shireroth gobbled up the rest of the Apollo Sector (and beyond) and is now, I would have to admit, probably the most active virtual micronation around. Useless art is simply tolerated vandalism. I am a vandal.

d! Good to see you! Yale...we always knew you'd end up somewhere like that, but good job, good job!Not much going on with me - I live in Dublin, Ireland now, but I'll be going to college back in New York next year. And I am MiniTrade, busy trying to restore your legacy of a Shirerithian economy after a dry spell of two or so years.A lot of people say they are not coming back. They turn out to have been wrong. Your old friend Caesar Augustus, for example, is Marquis of Florencia here these days. It's "succumb or be succumbed", as usual.Glad to know you're still alive and kicking, and...Yale...congratulations! "Whenever I hear the word 'culture', I reach for my revolver." - Herman Goering

*Bows* Hello there! You wouldn't know me, but I have heard many legends concerning dStryker. Very nice to see you around.
Re: You named a library after me!
I still get excited by the fact that I was accepted to Yale, made even greater by the fact that I got into Harvard too. It's pretty hard to believe I'll be going to Yale in just a couple of months. The best part is that I barely have to pay anything.I actually have time now to be involved in micronations if I wanted to, but I'm enjoying my "retirement," so to speak. Plus I'd be pretty disoriented because I'm so far behind on things.Hey Stjepan: I've thought about IMing you several times, but I never got around to it/never had the courage to do it.What language is the Polabia board in? Is it Czech? As a side note, I took a class on Polish, although I'm forgetting it all now. But I plan on continuing with it once I'm at Yale.Pan Kowalczyk jest rygorystycznym dyrektorem. (Straight from the textbook.) Because this phrase will be very useful in Poland. Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so. - Bertrand Russell

Re: You named a library after me!
I can imagine how exciting that would be! : ) Yeah, the language on the Polabia forum is primarily Czech, although I stole a few words here and there from other sources where it suited me. Macica is actually Sorbian, since the Czech word would be...hmm...something like Beseda or Vseda. Close to the Russian word. Depending on popular opinion, we might also adopt the Polish name "Sejm" for our legislature.90% of it is Czech though, as I'm a bit too afraid of Polish, even though the dialect of Sorbian which most Sorbs speak is most similar to Polish. I'm pleased to see that you took a course in it though and apparently enjoyed it. It's one of the more difficult slavic languages and once you have that done well I won't be able to hide much from you whenever I go on a Croatian-speaking binge. ; ) And to prove that point, I'll try to take a stab at translating that. Mr. Kowalczyk is a rigorous(?) director...yeah, is kind of a useless thing. ; )rygorystycznym dyrektorem And you definitely should IM me sometime. I'd do it myself but I lost your screen name a while ago. Edited by: Stjepan Veliki at: 5/11/05 19:29
Re: You named a library after me!
Yes, it's instrumental.I enjoyed the class a lot, although I wish we could have gone faster, but that's because I pick up languages much more easily than most people.A lot of people have told me that Polish is rather difficult. Then again, a lot of people have told me that I should learn a more useful language than Polish. I prefer learning Polish over Russian though (which would be much more useful) mostly because I don't feel like learning the Cyrillic alphabet, although I would be able to read it; it just takes a while. The other reason is that Russian has free stress, which makes it more complicated. And the akanie and ikanie rules are bothersome. Of course, none of these reasons are really anything to stop me from learning Russian if I wanted to, but I need to justify why I'm learning Polish. I look forward to the day when I can read your Croatian. Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so. - Bertrand Russell

Re: You named a library after me!
Yes, the free stress in Russian is extremely irritating, and its effects on pronunciation are much more pronounced than in other languages (unstressed o becoming shwa, unstressed e sounding like i, etc). Grammatically, it's simpler than most other slavic languages. The plus side is though, once you learn Polish you will already be able to understand a good amount of Russian (or any other slavic language) and learning them will come very easily to you.As for reading my Croatian...mozhda ti razumijesh vech puno edit: phonetiscized Edited by: Stjepan Veliki at: 5/11/05 19:57
