Re: Forum Reorg
1. Instead of Shireroth City Center, just call it Shirekeep.2. A Ministries forum would be a bad idea. I advise a Sector system, in much the same way that Delvenus was set up. For instance: Ministries, Corporations, and other such Miscellaneous Fora should go within a category for each Duchy. For instance, the "Yardistan" category might look like this:Yardistan-Yardistan Forum-Off-Topic Forum-Shireroth Airport and Stadium Forum-Testing Forum...while the Brookshire category might look like thisBrookshire-Brookshire Forum-MiniImNat Forum-Landsraad Forum-Landsraad Front Gate Forum...or some such.3. A bank forum is an excellent idea. I know threads get lost in the sea that is the current banking system.4. The Military needs it's own intelligence forum. I was under the impression that the SEP forum was for Kaiserly evil plans, while Intel HQ was for Military evil plans.5. The Archives are screwed up. I don't understand why half of the Yellowist stuff is archived in Classified.6. And yes, we need a true off-topic. I prefer Scott's suggestion. I will leave this to discussion for a while, though, to get further input. Wylþeow du GrifosThe Kaiser of ShirerothThe gods blessed you with power and a visionThe gods gave you life to accomplish a mission...

Forum Reorg
It's been a while since our last good reorg, and people are finally figuring out where all of our fora are. That means it's time for a new one! I have the following suggestions:1. Stick all the Ministries together in their own category. The way it is now is inelegant and confusing. We have six ministries in five different categories, some of which don't make much sense. Why is MiniInt a general forum but MiniImNat belongs in the foreign category?2. For the stuff that gets over, make a Shirekeep City Center or something. It can hold the Great Marketplace, the Library, the University, the Census Bureau, the Intel HQ, et cetera.3. Create an Off-Topic. I know Yardistan is supposedly our off-topic forum, but really not all that many people use it as such - perhaps because it's too far down or because people don't know it's an OT or because it's too confusing to go through Yardistani topics and OT topics and figure out which is which. All I know is that Yardistan has only 2400 posts total (Yardistani AND OT) whereas the Babkhan OT has 6806, and I *know* we're more Off-Topic and random than they are. Even the New Baracaoans and Treesians probably have more purely OT posts than we do, and the Baracaoans haven't been around for more than four months. A just plain OT forum around the top of the boards might solve this. The Polling Station can probably be merged into here.4. If Austi wants it, create a bank forum separate from MiniTrade. That way MiniTrade can be used to make announcements and ask questions and discuss policy rather than always be full of account threads. I don't know whether the computerized bank will make this idea obsolete or not.5. Pare down the military stuff. Right now we have three classified forums that are all exactly the same: MoMa, Intel HQ, and Secret Evil Plans. I say delete all of them and rename Public Office to MoMA (or do it some other way if some of them are Historic Fora) And delete ASTRO. It was a good idea four years ago, but anyone who thinks it's still going to operate is working in a dream world. If it's that good an idea, make a private business.6. Merge the Band and BGI Archives into a Misc. Archive. Stick any other smallish non-subdivision archives we may get in the future in there too.Any objections, comments, or further ideas? And am I still MiniInt, or not? Scott of Hyperboreaaka non-Newfie Scott

Wait a tick...why do we want an off-topic? Doesn't everything eventually become off-topic anyways? Jadie of GoldshireCarry on with your lives people...nothing to see here.

Re: Forum Reorg
Fax - I don't really think your suggestion would work too well. First, for all foreigners and a few out-of-the-loop citizens, it would in no way be obvious what subdivision ought to have what, or why they can find MiniEx in Hyperborea, for example. Second, it provides extra work if, say, I resign MiniEx and give it to a Brookshirerithian, which means someone has to transfer it over to the Brookshire category and confuse everyone. It's also not really related to the real world - just because we've got a guy from Missouri as our Attorney General doesn't mean the Department of Justice picks up shop and relocates itself in St. Louis. Finally, it just doesn't make sense - I would prefer categories to be of things that are related in some obvious way, so that if for some reason I wanted to check every Ministry, I could just go down to that section of the board.I don't think in all Shireroth's history the military has ever done secret plans separately from the Kaiser, and I'm not sure why two forums are needed - certainly nothing's going to be kept secret from the Kaiser even if it was done, and the real way we do things around here is that military or not, it's usually just a random group of people who come up with a plan and implement it...or is it?I don't understand the archives either. If you can make a list of problems, I can try to fix them. Yellowist stuff should probably go in the Misc. if we create it.On the other hand, you're quite right about Shirekeep and that's what I would have said myself if my head had been screwed on right when I wrote my first post.Jadie - an off-topic would provide an opportunity for people to post threads whose original topic doesn't relate to Shireroth - for example, political, artistic or philosophical debates, discussions about daily life, randomness, et cetera. It is basically a chance to discuss specific random topics rather than randomness in general...or is it? Scott of Hyperboreaaka non-Newfie ScottEdited by: Scott of Hyperborea at: 4/5/04 9:19 pm

Re: Forum Reorg
1. What will the category be called – “Ministries” – “Government Row” - “The Public Sector”. … sounds good to me.* For the stuff that gets over,2. Not sure what these words mean - butIt is my thoughts that the Great Marketplace might be a misnomer. Although I think we aren’t yet ready to develop the stock market the forum of which we speak was meant for that purpose. There are perhaps two more developmental steps in the economy before we are ready to develop the stock market. With all that said a forum that is a place to conduct business could be a useful tool in the two steps needed before getting to a useful stock market. I’ve been thinking about how to best integrate daily business into the fabric of Shirerothian society – and a marketplace forum that isn’t the stock market might just be an answer. Later, a separate forum for the stock market would be a good idea. Problem is, I don’t want to lose or have to go hunting for the stock market threads later. 3. Oh, ---- and here I’ve been off topic all over the place. 4. LOL – there you go beating me to the punch Scott. My next work is in testing the bank and setting up accounts. I need to be sure what name everyone wants their account called – make an accessible list, so everyone can find it – and get everyone to email me with a password they want. Don’t worry about me knowing your password – I have admin! – at the bank.Anyways, yes – I want a forum for the bank that is actually a hyperlink to the bank. So that when you click on the forum title you actually go right to the bank. That way there will no account threads anymore and the MiniTrade forum can be used for just the things you mention. Actually, the computerized bank is what makes this the next step rather making it obsolete. The bank is here: http://www.shireroth.org/cgi-bin/bank.cgi So, yeah – if a forum can be created that hyperlinks to the bank when you click on the forum that would be cool. I’m about to go to admin and create accounts and send people messages.5. Intentionally - no response.6. no intentional response. --- I also like the idea of making a Shirekeep category and putting all the government offices there, because after all – isn’t Shirekeep the capital of Shireroth.

OK, so my idea got shot down. Fine. The Shirekeep idea is a good one. The following is a list of what I think should go where.1. General-General Discussion-Off-Topic-Polling Station (as long as it's actually used)2. Ministries-MiniImNat-MiniEx-MiniInt (And The Census Bureau Should Go In Here)-MiniInfo (If this is brought back like it's supposed to be)-DoE-MiniTrade-MoRE-MoMA (Public Office)3. Government-Kaiser's Court-The Landsraad-The Landsraad Front Gate-Landsraad Passed Bills-Landsraad Archives4. States-Duchy of Brookshire-Barony of Alexandretta-Duchy of Goldshire-Barony of Lunaris-Duchy of Kildare-Duchy of Hyperborea-Barony of Cimmeria-Duchy of Yardistan-Barony of Amity and Mirioth-Duchy of Lothlaria-Territory of Lac Glacei and Cognito5. Shirekeep-The Great Marketplace-First Bank of Shireroth-John Metzler III University-Tony Au Memorial Library-B0O0/\/\ist Temple-Multi-Temple-Shirekeep International Airport And Stadium-Polling Station (If the polling station is going to be used less, it should go here)-Testing6. Classified Offices-Kaiser's Secret Evil Plans-Ministry Secret Evil Pans7. Archives**The archives are a mess in themselves. I'll have to sort through that later.** Revolution Radio: Estimating the airspeed velocity of unladen swallows one feather at a time.Edited by: Shasta Rana Wanderlust at: 4/5/04 11:45 pm

JDS = John Drake Sager Do you really believe Project Bluebook revealed EVERYTHING the Army Air Corps knew? Do you know what REALLY happened at Roswell, New Mexico in the late 1940s? Have you even heard about the Men in Black? Do you have any friends who have `missing days'? Do you sleep with your window unlocked?Be seeing you...

As do I...the only changes I'd make is to merge intel with SEP and then scatter the Security group to various other places...also, I'm hoping to rename the Target Range (which is a rather boring name) to the "Lukedu Center for the Exploding Arts".
