Mmm, depression eh. The second worst feeling on Earth (the first being the nausea caused by too much drink).I wish I could tell you how to make it better but the fact remains, all you can do is ride it out. I wouldn't recommend drugs.Hope you get through it ok.

Intelligence and mental ilness often go together. and for some reason, Intelligence and Depression. For me, I have nothing to worry about. Without a Degree there wont be a single person in this god forsaken shithole that will ever take anything I say seriously. But thats fine, because I also dont have to worry about Mecha-Pol Pot the evil robot dictator that will rise to power in 1o years and kill its genius creators allong with all inteligencia in the world. ideas and intelligence do not directly correlate. I mean seriously. Look at freaking Wile E. Coyote. He had a bajillion ideas, and he was still dumb as a rock. There are many people with lots of intelligence and no ideas. These people are the ones caught up in the rat race, who live their lives oppressed by the Man, who doesn't even let them have independent thought. Mindless drones... smart... but no ideas, and what few they have... crushed. It is said that Depression is an illness, one that is not condusive to society and health. My question is since when was society concerned with my health? I see depression as it is. A side effect from rejecting our pre-determined role on this planet. Sabotage. there are two solutions. 1. Be a fufilled but hollow member of the rat race. Drugged on a cocktail of your preference. This can include Alcohol, narcotics as so many of the worlds elite do. Or you could take the state backed alternative, Zyban, Valeum, Prozac, Rideline. Mix with a health bombardment of Commercial bombardment, add some healthy consumer spending (maybe a nice PS2 or xbox to keep your mind off life) and there you are! A productive and well adjusted member ready to become a cubical drone in some office for the rest of your life. 2. Reject it. Make your life meaningful. If not for you then for others. Make it so that life has more meaning for those to come. http://www.adbusters.org Proud Owner of a Real Horrorshow High-Speed, Low-Drag Sig!

But even if you follow choice 2... doesn't mean it will end....I must disagree with you about depression... It's more complex than that. For some it is psychological, due to trama or events in their lives... a poor childhood, abuse, massive back luck in life.. some is biological... a small problem with some part of the brain, a lack of the chemicals needed to have balance. One could have a great life.. and still be depressed, even if they KNOW they shouldn't be. And for some, a mix... biological.. and crap in their lives...For me it's more biological than psychological... but I fall into the mix catagory...Depression, can be an illness.. but noting be conducive to society... bullshit... Society very much affect the mental health of it's parts... In a society where people are mocked for being different... (sexual orientation, mental retardation, physical disability, in my case).. I was mocked mercifulessly as a kid for my eyes.. (I was born with crossvision, as a result despite 2 surgeries, I have a lazy eye that will wonder alot..., and a lisp that is more or less now gone.. What was my point...Yes.. I don't know about pre-detirmined roles.. I don't subscribe to predetirmination theories. Their is no force that has lain down what I should be... I do not have a Karma I must fullfil. (or was it Darma...Karma I think..)But I will agree about find/making meaning to your life... I have meaning in my life...One I made myself, and perhaps that is why I haven't sucumbed to my depression like so many I know who have had/have it...But as for prescribed drugs for depression... Again, must disagree, I take anti-depressents. I don't rely on them, but they do help me to keep the depression from controling me. Anyhoo, I plan to major in Psychology, (that is what I am doing...)... so, I guess I will be confronting this arguement all my life... Mortis BrookshireKaiser of Shireroth

Your fancy degree will only make you more of a target when Mecha-Pol Pot rises to power and destroys all intelligencia!!! I suppose you are right though, it is a chemical embalance, but you have to ask why there is that embalance in the first place. Is it heriditary? or is it a chemical reaction to the environment around the person? Proud Owner of a Real Horrorshow High-Speed, Low-Drag Sig!

I believe depression to be a chemical inbalance caused by your brain when your sad because it makes you think more... almost like a flawed defense mecahanism.Think about it; when your happy you tend to forget your flaws and be more outgoing. Depression usually comes about because of mocking (in my examination of it anyway) and when you get depressed, you tend to only focus on your flaws, and you lose your extrovert persona. The less people you talk to, the less of a chance your taking that they'll mock you. and by focusing on your flaws, you try to cover them up or work on them, thus improving yourself. But like I said, it's flawed because of entropy... (entropy: the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity b : a process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder)any comments on my theory? Be nice!!! lol

I do agree that depression is like some screwed up defense mechanism but, When you get depressed, you dont necessarily focus on your flaws...i mean there are those people and those times when that is what happens...but... in my opinion... depression, whether psycological or biological can cause a person to be, basically insanely sad or upset or the like which then causes them to start shutting out the rest of the world...which is never recommended. The best thing to do is to to talk out why you are depressed, sometimes you realize that there is really nothing to be depressed about...or you can just feel better knowing that someone else knows why you are depressed. From dictionary.com:Quote:4. Psychology A psychiatric disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death. Also called clinical depression. That bascially descibes it....What was I rambling on about.....?Oh well....i think i made some sort of point....
