Epithetisation

Post by Kaiser Malarbor I »

I really, really liked Shyriath's idea of Kaiserial epithets. I'm going to come up with one for myself when I abdicate the throne... and I think there's a lot of Kaisers that really deserve to have an epithet of their own. But, there's been quite a few Kaisers since Mors IV who have no epithet of their own. I did a bit of historical research for inspiration (stopping at the end of the Third Age for now so this list doesn't balloon too much). I want you to read these recaps and reminisce these Kaisers, and try to come up with titles that describe something important about them - how they contributed to the nation, what their leadership style was, what their most significant legacy is, what they would have liked to be remembered as, etc..
Yarad I (wiki page, forum account). Came up with and implemented New Feudalism, which our current structure of semi-permanent counties hails from. Annexed Byzantia (I don't remember much about this - proly should ask vasroe about it).

Semisa I (wiki page, forum account). Saw over the annexation of the Dinarchy of Antica as a duchy, and the move of the forum to phpBB. Placed a record number of bills before the Landsraad to reform its structure - see http://shireroth.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=7&start=100 and http://shireroth.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=62&start=75 - after having failed to change it by decree. According to her last decree, it seems she wanted to be known as the Resurrector.

Letifer II (wiki page, forum account). Introduced a new Charter, wishing it to be the last Charter Shireroth would ever have, and made some big cleanups in the Decreebook, but later fell into inactivity due to sickness, leaving only anti-Kaisers to keep the nation interesting.

Alejian II (wiki page, forum account). Far more of a preserver Kaiser than a reformer like the previous ones, though he did suspend the Landsraad once.

Meskan II (wiki page, forum account). The biggest reform he actually got around to doing was the merging of the Lawbook and the Decreebook - I'm not sure what happened to that one, BTW. But, mostly, he wanted to culturally remould Shireroth, adapting Control of Destiny to it so as to make it "real".

Carol I (wiki page, user account). Mostly a preserver, though she did decree into force the Landsraad's decision to do away with New Feudalism.

Hypatia I (wiki page, didn't use a separate user account). Only ever posted one decree, saying we're still friends with Attera. Led a nation fraught with inactivity, however, she *was* a stubbornly loyal Kaiseress who did significant work to keep the nation up during a dark period.

Letifer III (wiki page, user account). Did not post many decrees either, though then again he did things like suspending the Imperial Charter without ever decreeing them. History remembers him as the Unprepared because he fell into inactivity later during his reign.

Mahamantot I (wiki page, didn't use a separate user account). An anti-Kaiser, but one of some significance as it was his brief reign that heralded the coming of the Fourth Era.
Here's a couple I thought of:

Yarad I: The Brother (since "Yarad" means steel and he was a Brother of Metal), The Atomist (after New Feudalism)
Semisa I: The Resurrector (since she wanted to be known as that... as amusing it looks from today's perspective to use that name at that time)
Letifer II: The Indisposed (since he was, and because Erik likes that in his away messages)
Alejian II: The Protector (to go with his earlier title of the Guardian)
Meskan II: The Soloralist (obvious)
Carol I: The Gentle? I had a name in mind but forgot it, and since I wasn't around during this time I really don't remember enough to say much anyway...
Hypatia I: No idea here, really, since I wasn't around.
Letifer III: History already remembers him as the Unprepared.
Mahamantot I: The Official? (since he's AFAIK the only anti-Kaiser whose reign actually formally "existed") The Semi-Unofficially Official?

Let's hear it for your suggestions. I'm not saying I'm going to epithetise every Kaiser and Kaiseress, but I do want to hear some ides and I *will* decree in the most appropriate ones.

Shyriath approves of this! Let there be epithets!

Most of the suggestions I like as they are, or can't think of any alternatives. But here are a few thoughts:

For Yarad I: I agree with the reasoning behind The Atomist, but I keep feeling like we should look for a different word with the same meaning - "Atomist" makes me think of mad scientists armed with disintegrator weapons, though that could arguably be counted a good association to make with a Kaiser. Unfortunately, a suitable synonym fails to come to mind there.

For Mahamantot I: The Semi-Unofficially Official is pretty good, but if we wanted something shorter, maybe The Acknowledged?

The Acknowledged is good. I like it.

Maybe for Hypatia we should recognize that she's the only (that I know of ) actual succession of a child from their actual parent in Micronations. (were both Actually ruled and did things. At least in Shireroth it is true).

lol.. the Actual. (I used it a lot in that sentence :)).

That's a bit too long.

I'll stick with The Pinch Kaiser.

Spot on! She was eternally maternal, to all of us. :)

Aw, I miss her...
