You guys want an FHA?

Post by Arviður »

Well...

I mean, there is some disproportionalism. Certain baronies have no counts in them, others are big as duchies. This causes the Landsraad to be biased to the small baronies and duchies.

I kinda liked the idea when we had the Feudal Holdings Act in force. When we actually fought for our survival. It made things interesting, people were motivated to keep their duchy big, their barony active enough.

Having skimmed over the FHA, I see no reason to have one. It goes against feudalism. I can create ten baronies, I still only have ten votes to give out, and if I overdo it, the Kaiser can always smack me down. The citizenship count of our subdivisions change so often that we would have to promote/demote baronies and duchies once every week or something.

Yeah, I had the problem of disproportionation in mind when I was considering Erik's proposal and I think what we have now is fine. The purpose of the system is not to be accurately democratic.

I just don't like the idea that one-man baronies can have say in the Landsraad :p

Anyway, well, I buy what you say. We prolly don't need an FHA again, but something... Just don't know what. Yet.

I don't mind one-man Baronies for exactly the reason Malliki named: if a Duke wants to "waste" his own power, that's his business.

But I do think we could use an "every Duchy needs at least four active citizens" clause again. I said it when Goldshire was founded and I'll say it again: unless more of the new people stay than usual, Shireroth doesn't have enough activity to maintain six interesting Duchies, at least not without some serious citizen redistribution.

I also wouldn't mind reinstating that law that the Duchy with the fewest people gets first opportunity to recruit new arrivals, and only if the newbie rejects that Duchy for his own reasons can the others start recruiting.

*Counts the Brookshirian residents*

I actually agree with Scott on this one. To not step on any Duke's toes, we could have landed Dukes and titular Dukes, for example. This would take an Imperial Decree tho, since I doubt we can get a unanimous decision out of the Landsraad regarding this.

I'm confused as to what you are suggesting. Would the Dukes in gross be permitted the same rights as traditional Dukes?

I'm not suggesting anything, hence the "for example".

I'll rephrase my question. In your example, would the Dukes in gross be permitted the same rights as traditional Dukes? :D

With a rule for the size of duchies, we would get less. We would drop at least one.

I don't know why duchies have to remain duchies and you can't rotate things a bit.

This is just a random idea, but I seem to recall that some baronies have risen to become duchies. And in some cases, other entities have sunk down to count level. Take my own Lac Glacei for instance which, back in its heyday was a Grand Duchy unto itself but has since "sunk" to the level of a county.

Why can't the reverse happen? Say a county gains enough power within a duchy to drag itself back up the hierarchy to become a barony, or even master of the duchy itself?

I think this type of rotational pattern would make for a really interesting interaction between the feudal tiers, and would allow cultures to shift around as interest grows and wanes, and then grows again. If you maintain one dominant pattern permanently, it stifles development, interest, and imagination.

Really? I don't think so. Oh I just don't have the energy... "Culture"? Bah...

If you want to fight to the death for land, there's always SCOWL. That's kinda why it's there ...

Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus

Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

You realise it's essentially Anunia with simpler rules and a fair way to make it a constant recwar system?

Well, you either haven't grasped the full potential; or recwar just isn't for you.

Oh, I like recwars. That's where I got my Golden Sword. But I don't have the time, interest or energy to get involved in SCOWL. And neither does anyone else apparently.

We'll see what happens in the next month or so. If no interest is maintained after that, I'll move that Shireroth leave the SCOWL treaty and admit that only Gralus has the recwarring enthusiasm to maintain a constant war system. But being a hopeless optimist, I still think something exciting will happen in the next month :demon
