Ari - Iain and SEP

Post by Scott of Hyperborea »

You said you wanted to control access to the SEP, so here's your first opportunity to make a tough decision:Quote:mercurivs: Hello. Just thinking about the SEP, should I not have access to it yet, as head of SHINE?GSquid314: Actually, funny you mention that. I got SHINE de-established from Mini-Ex this afternoon because our policy is not to let any dual citizens in, which made things really awkward if you were to make a request like that.mercurivs: Where did you get it destablished?GSquid314: SEP, actually, but you can confirm with Ari that this actually happened.mercurivs: Well, I hope of course that you have removed your own access to SEP then, as you are also a dual citizenGSquid314: Am I? I am an honorary citizen of Ascalon, which is honorary, and I am a member of the Treesian Order which isn't a micronation. Am I missing somewhere?mercurivs: Not at all - except the Treesian Order is a micronation, if you read everything very carefullyGSquid314: What would I have to read? I was under the impression that it was more of a sovereign knightly order like SMOMmercurivs: true, but it still has land, foreign relations, international sports teams and is shown on the MCS mapmercurivs: and the Charter is quite clear about the purposes of the various positions and stuffGSquid314: I'm choosing to consider it a particularly nationlike knightly order at the moment.mercurivs: be my guest GSquid314: Otherwise, what would be the point in having closed down Treesia and set up the Treesian Order in its place?GSquid314: Actually, what *was* the point of that, anyway? Do you remember?mercurivs: Treesia was 'closed down' as a result of the apocalypse and the Order was established in advance to take over the functions of government which was deemed to have been destroyed.mercurivs: aand thus Treesia was able to continue in a much reduced formGSquid314: But it doesn't seem very reduced, does it? The low activity of the old Treesia and the medium activity of the TO seem about the same level. And the Apocalypse...oh well, people seem pretty happy with it, at least.mercurivs: that might be debatable - but yes, activity has picked up recently, due to various people returning and a few things going on behind closed doors, as is tradtionalmercurivs: how long it will all last though is anyone's guessmercurivs: as these things do go in cyclesmercurivs: however, this does not preclude my being head of shine and being still denied access to SEPGSquid314: No, but aren't you a citizen of Babkha, also? We are not worried about the Order, but Babkha, despite being a close friend of ours, also has a large and active enough intelligence service that we feel a paranoid need to keep a couple of our deeper secrets from them.mercurivs: So much for being allies eh/GSquid314: They don't let us into SAVAK, we're not letting them into SEP.mercurivs: Well, I don't have access to SAVAK eitherGSquid314: We certainly value our relationship with them, but...well...to give an example, US and Israel are allies, but Israel has also been caught spying on the US.GSquid314: I know. Probably because you're Shirerithian.mercurivs: but if I'm supposed to do a proper job as MiniEx, that means I need to know everything that might be going on involving other nationsmercurivs: so keeping me excluded will compromise my positionmercurivs: hopefully no enough that I might feel complelled to resignmercurivs: but then you never know, do you?GSquid314: I will talk to the Kaiser about that tonight. And if he says no, I will nevertheless make certain to tell you anything that is relevant and not likely to cause horrible trouble.mercurivs: And what if you're not available to do that in our hour of need?GSquid314: When I get such a report, I will PM it to you. If I haven't had time to PM it yet, I won't have had time to post it in SEP yet.mercurivs: And what of you're sent a report when you're halfway around Europe or lost in an Irish bog or something?GSquid314: Then I wouldn't publish it on SEP, would I?GSquid314: I am asking the Kaiser as we speak.I think that has his arguments for and my arguments against as cogently as I could summarize them up if I wanted to do so. I sort-of-trust Iain as a very decent and honorable guy, but I also know deviousness is his forte and he did lots of sneaky stuff as head of Treesian intel. If this sounds contradictory, it is, but it's only because I don't know how to phrase it better. He says he is willing to swear an oath of secrecy if necessary.
