I believe it, I'm not stunned or distressed about it in the same way that I would be if, say, Paul McCartney suddenly died. Or even Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Jane Seymour, or Sean Connery, or Tiger Woods, or Cadel Evans, or George Lucas, or Cate Blanchett, ... I was more affected by the deaths of Gregory Peck, Payne Stewart and particularly Don Bradman and George Harrison. Michael Jackson just never did it for me.

Speaking of deaths, the most under-reported death of 2008? Michael Crichton. He gave more to the world than Michael Jackson and without the insanity.

A year ago everyone called him a freak and a child molester. Now that he's dead we all like him again.. funny that.

Of course this means that the Twitter-led Iranian Counter-Revolution will drop down the news schedule a couple of dozen places while the "Famous Person Has Died, Everyone Dies, I'm Going to Die, Oh Noes! I'm Devastated by the Death of Famous Person" & "It's a Shame But Wasn't He a Just a Bit Weird" compete to dominate the cultural Zeitgeist for the next fortnight.

I'm actually more upset that Farah Fawcett died. Michael Jackson died sometime around '95, this thing that lived on was just some sort of demon spawn inhabiting a similar body.

Actually there was a third. Ed McMahon died June 23rd. That was only 2 days before M.J. and Farrah Fawcett.

Only in the second case. I recall he paid $20 million on an out of court settlement with the first.
