[Petition] ISI Independence
Your Niftyness,
I approach you as the head of the ISI in the hope to have a few requests considered. Up till now we have had no space program to speak of and are significantly behind in the technology and knowledge then other nations.
Right now I am leading the program as Minister of the Exterior for the sole reason that MiniEx involves everything outside of Shireroth and I believe that Space counts as 'outside'. To avoid any confusion that may arise in the future I humbly request that you consider declaring the ISI as officially falling under the jurisdiction of the MiniEx.
The second request I have is that you consider declaring the ISI the sole organization allowed to launch and maintain structures and/or people in space. This would be to simplify the job of the leader of the ISI and to minimize a wast of resources that may occur should other organizations pop up when the two should be cooperating.
I hope that you will consider both of these requests to the full extent of your Niftyness and until then I am but your humble servant,

I don't particularly like the second one, since it denies private space flight.

They could be very easily be organized by the ISI. And should it ever become a serious issue then it could be addressed at the time. We do have to consider that space flights in general have never been effectuated in Shireroth. It would be much simpler to have one body organize everything for the infancy of our explorations.

MoMA reserves the right to fire things into space as and when it deems such activities necessary, and shall prefer to retain a discretionary operational control over such matters. The second request I have is that you consider declaring the ISI the sole organization allowed to launch and maintain structures and/or people in space. This would be to simplify the job of the leader of the ISI and to minimize a wast of resources that may occur should other organizations pop up when the two should be cooperating.

I would settle for a clause that grants MoMA control during situations of war on the interBaronial level or higher.

Re: [Petition] ISI Independence
I grant your first request. You can from now on consider ISI a part of the MiniEx.
I cannot, however, grant your second request. I have no reason nor wish to limit private space flights or exploration, and I definitely do not wish to limit the ability of the MoMA to do their thing in space. Should other space organisations pop up in Shireroth, you may revisit this issue. At the moment though, that is my decision.
I also instruct you to coordinate the ISI programs with the MoMA when deemed necessary by either you or the MoMA.

Truly, when the giant space squids attack Micras with their fearsome Tentacles of Five Thousand Kilometers, we shall all be grateful for MoMA being permitted to launch things at them at will. It won't save us, but it'll be fun to watch!

All things (read: Nordland) considered - that's not even remotely implausible these days...

Good Sir I hardly believe that some minor incursions into the improbably would warrant the accusation that we (read : Nordland) would be responsible for any giant Space Squids. Space Sheep on the other hand may be us...

Ship's Log, Stardate 31509.4-
The Improvise was being called back to the home sector due to an urgent private message of an obscure sort.
"Admiral, the messages said "giant space squids" and then cut out."
"Mr. Sprock, scan the sector for oversized mollusks"
"Admiral, other than the Snail People of Gastropod VII the area is clear."
"No squids headed for Micras?"
"No mollusks of any kind. There was a palnetary virus attacking Sigma Draconis V, but the Bozeman dealt with that.
"Contact the planet."
"Sir, you are aware that only one being on Micras has a subspace transmitter."
"Yes, I am well aware of that. Raise him on gamma frequency before I decide to do a planetary broadcast and disrupt the Shirirthian Idol final."
"Why would you do that?"
"I rooting for the Yardistani, and he's doomed. The judges hate him."
"Gamma frequency open, sir."
"Thank you Lieutenant." "What's going on down there, Jake?"
"Nothing worthy of the Improvise, Jim. Our space agency is jockeying for more funding, nothing more."
"They don't remember who built this ship, do they?"
"No, it was a long time ago to them. Relativity, time dialation, Daylight Savings, all that. They are past remembering."
"Then why in heaven's name do you stay there, man?"
"How long do you think I'd last in the Federation Council waiving a sword , yelling Revolution!! at the top of my lungs every two weeks?"
"There are drugs. McKay could........."
"No, Jim, I'm good."
"You know you can call on us if those squids do show?"
"Go on, it's fine."
"Helmsman, set course for Remulak, Warp Factor 4."
(music and fade out)

What ever happened with JASO? We went through a lot of trouble to pilfer that organization.

I support JASO too, ofcourse. But as Leo is doing all the work, I can understand him: it's his little project.

Well there are actually grounds for my statement, which are that there is absolutely nothing Jasonian about the ISI.

It's just a name. Jasonia (now Nelaga) doesn't even claim it.Leo wrote:Well there are actually grounds for my statement, which are that there is absolutely nothing Jasonian about the ISI.

I'm fairly sure the Landsraad made some sort of statement to the effect that Nelaga was invited to come and comanage JASO again, back when I was Duke ...Jonas wrote:It's just a name. The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
