Amokolia has come up with an option to merge with Shireroth, any opinions on that?

THE DUCHY OF AMOKOLIA would be a democratic duchy. The duke would be elected by the people of the Duchy.

THE DUCHY OF AMOKOLIA would be equal to other duchies in Shireroth. It would be the sixth duchy of Shireroth. Amokolia would link together Absentia and Elwynn giving Shireroth greater geography.

Amokolia would have much internal rule. We could experiment with different forms of lawmaking, of community-building, and we would have our right to declare independence by democratic means whenever we want to. We could even have the only ducal constitution in Shireroth.

Yes, we would *object* to legal subdivisions of Shireroth seceding. And... actually, that's pretty much all we'd do. This is micronationalism, if you want to leave Shireroth you can do it anytime, and there's nothing we can do about it. If Amokolia joined now and decided to unmerge, say, a couple of months later, we'd probably condemn it in the Landsraad or something - but we're far too nice and enlightened by now to try to do anything more.

Anyway, I can see you're considering mergers with other nations (I hope this means you're taking your time and might well still come back to Shireroth! ). I'd just like to point out that we offer many great things that those other nations don't, such as a forum that doesn't have a huge picture of the same winter landscape at the top of each page, and a culture that has no obsession with either Jewish or Italian things .

I don't think there's a Shirithian law that says this. There's simply the practical matter that if you declare independence you'll be independent no matter what Shirithian law says

This is great. Honestly considering the way you've been treated here recently I'm a little surprised you're so gung-ho about this, but I'm glad that you are and it's an easy solution to your problems with Yardistan.

I don't foresee objections. We've made deals like this with other countries at least three times that I can think of, most recently with Antica (not the current incarnation, the Delphi version). We annexed them as a Duchy along with the condition that they could secede whenever they felt like it (I don't have the exact treaty in front of me, but I think it was called the Treaty of Aquilaria, and I'll find it as soon as I'm on my own computer.) The Anticans agreed, spent about two months in Shireroth, and eventually voted to leave, which we happily let them do. The same situation occurred with Arminy, and they also successfully left.

Based on the Antican precedent, I think the MCS would also be amenable. We might want to make them some guarantees, like that if the Amokolian citizens went elsewhere we wouldn't hold on to Amokolian land, but if we promised that I think it would be fair enough.

I'll look into this further when I get home, but this is really exciting!

This is completely unacceptable and illegal... Just kidding. The LawBook says that no Duke may secede, but as long as the special rules for Amokolia are on the Decree level there is no need for any law changes.

You could always pull an Absentia, and only annex as much land as you feel fit for the new Amokolian Duchy and use the rest to reclaim Lothlaria, whilst that area of Micras is still vacant...
We need to see this icon being used more, and Lothlaria is the perfect excuse!
