Celebrating too early??
Celebrating too early??
I have been told that the British (or at least my area) 'cheat' because we start handing out presents, putting up christmas trees, and decorations, and sing carols right from the first of December 'til Christmas day. How can there be such a thing as 'celebrating too early'!!!

Re: Celebrating too early??
Well I could see celebrating too early when the radio stations start playing nothing but Christmas music in early November but after Thanksgiving it's perfectly acceptable to start putting up Christmas lights, getting a tree, decorating it, sending christmas cards ect. However the giving of gifts, unless you won't see them on Christmas, should be done only on Christmas! no earlier!

It's too early! You, Good Lady, are a Cheater!

Edit: Yes, I know I have no good, reasonable argument behind it. It just seems a little ridiculous to start getting into the "Christmas spirit" before even St Nicholas Day.

Meh. One thing I won't miss when Woolworth's closes down is the Christmas decorations being sold as early as October and November...
And coming from a household celebrating Christmas, Hannukah, and Dawkins' Winter Solstice, that's saying something!

Re: Celebrating too early??
Woolworths.. *sniff*.. will be missed! Even if it did have unusual quirks like selling christmas stuff before halloween.. >.>..<.<.. but indeed, we must say goodbye to our dear friend. Lol, along with that annoying advert with the sheep and the dog.
But yeah, I'm not a cheater, Chrim!!.. you've got to celebrate christmas throughout December.. even if its doing little things, like putting up decorations a piece at a time, buying and wrapping presents while singing along to "All I want for christmas is you" on the radio, carols, services, clearing space for the tree, buying as much chocolates and sweets as you can manage and blaming it on the christmas season, writing and giving out cards, giving out presents to your friends who you won't see to often (and them forcing you to open them =[), gigglign cause you know what presents you've got everyone and they haven't a clue what you got at those cheap prices, watch all those classic christmas movies you can only watch once a year without giving yourself bad luck, getting the chimney clear for santa and buying fresh carrots for Rudolf.. ALL before Christmas Day. =P .. oh, and how could I forget getting sick of singing about how your true love gave you a partridge in a pear tree. ..>.>..<.<..
All the fun you're missing out on!!

god I hate that song but there is a playful parody of it that I love, the twelve days AFTER christmas XD there are plenty of videos of the song on youtube but not the version I love. I'll have to make a video of it. Too bad I didn't feel like recording last night or I could have uploaded the band doing it live.

In America we start celebrating before Thanksgiving!
Or at least that's when the retail stores start rolling out the Christmas items. I was nearly trampled to death a few weeks ago by Christmas shoppers at Wal-Mart. You'd think it was the end of the world or something...

Oh ye who torments me in dreams of dark abysses, beware the sleeping shadow, for it is a bane like no other...

It is for the parents who don't get their spoiled brat the toys they require of them.

Re: Celebrating too early??
I wish I was one of those spoiled brats T_T though I usually make out pretty well during the holiday. The pile under the tree keeps shrinking year after year though. Compared to other years the pile is really tiny! Stupid economy not giving my parents/relatives/family friends enough money to buy me everything on my amazon list.Chrimigules wrote:It is for the parents who don't get their spoiled brat the toys they require of them.

Yeah, if I were a spoilt brat and oblivious to the fact I could very well be a very happy person. Ignorance is bliss
Shit... actually that means I could be one right now...
