Silly but historical fact

Post by Nickolas »

So I was looking at wikipedia to get all the proper titles for setting up a similar feudal system in Cerulea. Well I found out some pretty neat info that reminded me of Shireroth.

Ranks of Nobility - Baron

A little further down there is a table listing the different titles in order of rank. From the looks of it a Count is actually higher than a Baron, whereas a Baron is the lowest rank. Duke seems to be in the right place. I am sure the order here at Shireroth was intentional, I just thought I would bring this up :D.

If I remember my history correctly - and I really am not good at remembering history - it wasn't really intentional. It's just that when we first started making subdivisions smaller than a duchy we called them baronies, and because there were no peerage ranks lower than that left when we needed smaller subdivisions, someone just arbitrarily decided to call them counties. Or maybe someone thought this was the traditional order.

The solution? Don't worry about it. I've considered putting baronies under counties in Straylight but the fact is it'd just look weird in Shireroth.

We won't immediately get mad at you for pointing this out...but this is your one warning. If you ever bring up how the German for a female Kaiser is "Kaiserin" and not "Kaiseress", we release the dogs.

@Scott: It isn't my fault the German gender syntax dictates that the feminine form of Kaiser ends with -in. However I do suppose an Anglicized form of Kaiserin would be Kaiseress. You could switch it to the Russian way and use Tsarina. However if you want to get technical about it Kaiser and Tsar are both derivatives of CAESAR, the family name of Julius Caesar, his direct descendants and future Roman Emperors. With this in mind the feminine form of Caesar is Caesarina, thus you could also go with Kaiserina, which is not far off from Kaiserin. My point being, release the dogs on the fool who developed the noun gender syntax for the German language. You may find that to be far more productive than to release the dogs on a pleb ;).

Burns: I suggest you leave immediately.

Homer: Or what? You´ll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you? Well, go ahead-do your worst!
Vilhelm von Benkern - The Dolphin-...Count
:: Formerly just "benkern"
:: Rook Sentry of the Order of the Vorpal Blade
:: Count of Mar Sara IIRC
:: Former Baron of Absentia AFAIK, before that Baron of Vorpmadal TBH; also Former Duke of Yardistan IMHO
:: Dux Emeritus of the Order of Mischievous Intent

It takes moo to mango!

This is easily explained. Languages and culture meld and blend over time. Shireroth was founded in 264 ASC. Many cultures have been a part of the Imperial Republic over the more than 3000 years (ASC) of our existance. :document

Compare the language spoken in any nation to that spokewn there 3000 years ago. I think we do amazingly well that any of our records can be easily read today. :party :sleep
