Loki, 3rd of the name, Kaiser of Shireroth, to Shireroth and Micronationry-at-Large, Greetings.

Whereas, a discusion of a Shirithian Commonwealth of Nations has gone on for some time, and-

C- Nations who share joint citizens with the Imperial Republic of Shireroth.

E - Nations that the Kaiser of Shireroth or the Landsraad of Shireroth believe to be important to add to the Commonwealth.

Article II -

C - Economic exchange and the regulation thereof.

D - Discussions of mutual security concerns and possible actions to remedy same.

E - Other issues concerning more than one member of the Commonwealth, to provide a safe and friendly environment for the discussion of and possible solution of such issues.

Article III -

The Commonwealth shall have an interim headquarters in Shirekeep, Shireroth, to be made perminant if so desired by the membership.

No, I want a Holy Shirerithian Empire! :smashy

I'm in favour of this, but I can't say the same about the (other) Batavians. Like I said before: Dutch micronationalists are always in favour of republican forms of government, so I'm sure they would demand a more neutral name and everyone on turn chosing a head of the commonwealth. I beg you, please don't think about this! We don't want to become a YAMO! :p

Can Maraguo join? We are very interested and recognise His Niftiness as head of the commonwealth.

OK.

We'll give it a day or two to simmer on the stove and then send invites.

I'm also considering amending tri-cit in some fashion regarding this.

I love your idea, bur we want countries to join. If the things fuzzes out into a YAMO, well, c'est la vie.

This is intended as a start. What it grows, mutates into, we shall see, depending on who gets involved.

If some folks could post this to there favorite intermicronational site, that'd be good.

Why wouldn't they join? Making it an Imperial Commonwealth doesn't means they loose any indepence. Maybe we could find people prepared to recognise the kaiser as highest lord (it doesn't mean anything, just as symbolic as the Holy Roman emperors :document ). The nation with nobles and a king are vassals (but like I said before, the Kaiser hasn't anything to say).

So its slightly YAMOish. Your point is? We're creating this for nations that already have close ties with Shireroth, or should have, aren't we? So they've got citizens intelligent enough to know its real purpose and not yell YAMO. Problem solved.

Well, Hesam told me the other day to stop criticizing people's micronational organizations all the time. So in honor of him being a dirty evil Babkhan who must be frustrated at all times, lemme give you some constructive criticism.

This looks to me like fundamentally a prestige thing. It's saying "Hey, look at us, we're Shireroth, we're leader of a bloc!" The bloc isn't a specific bloc with specific aims, like fighting communism or opposing the Grand Commonwealth or whatever. It's just there to be led by Shireroth, so we look good.

Now, Maraguo is mostly Shirerithian anyway, so they'll join. Andreas is awesome, so Novatainia might join too. But I have a hard time seeing why other nations would be interested. It seems like all we're offering is the chance to make it look like we're in charge of them in some ill-defined ceremonial way. And if there's one thing micronationalists don't like, it's having other people look like they're in charge.

The Atterans tried this back with the Atteran Commonwealth. When the Atteran Commonwealth was really small, Attera looked stupid for having a Commonwealth almost no one wanted to join. To make sure they didn't look stupid, the Atterans sunk to pretty much begging other countries to join and sometimes ended up offering more than they could deliver. Eventually, the Commonwealth became such a joke that Liam, Johanns, and a few others got in an argument with Diga over it that ended up destroying the country.

So I am lukewarm about this until it becomes very clear that you know what you want it to do and that there are at least a few countries who want to do it.

Hmmm...if Cerulea joins, how will its independence be effected? I'll still be king? But most of all, and I think this should be part of the charter, once I get to a certain size, I should be allowed to declare my independence from the common wealth without repercussions.

Mike, don't make it do difficult. :D
It's something like you said, the kaiser is in fact the highest lord (like in real feudalism). In the Frankish Empire (after it got divided) there was still an emperor that bounded the empires together. But the kaiser couldn't demand the French king (for example) to invade Britain. They were independent but everyone recognised the emperor as highest lord.
We could dece that the Kaiser is present at the coronation of a new king and gives his blessing (but doesn't interfere, except if the laws in that nation say he can).

Nick, I'm not under the impression you loose your indepence. So why would you be allowed to declare yourself independent (that would only mean that you actually lost your independence!)? But I wouldn't mind if you become something more then just a member. :document

I still like the Holy Shirithian Empire of Nations more, it's more original as name then a commonwealth (but it can mean the same). And because it's an empire nobody we will not look as stupid as the Atterans if nobody joins. :p

The problem with that definition is that no nation will want to join if they have to recognize the Kaiser as overlord, signified by his blessing. His role, if any official at all, should perhaps be more like the Queen's role in the Commonwealth of Nations.

Overlord? Hehe.
Why not? You don't lose anything, nor your independence, nor the power to chose your own king.
It's like the role of the Queen in the British Commonwealth (no way that I will call it by its new name!), but a bit more unique of view (internal no difference). You can see it as first among equals. ;)

I don't like the name Commonwealth / Confederation anymore, it's used to often these days. We all are monarchies (and even if we aren't), so we can use a name that sounds a bit more royal.

I believe the closest RL approximation to this would be the Holy Roman Empire. There is a Holy Roman Emperor, and had many members, however each one was still a sovereign nation in itself. The best possible thing (I think) would be:
  • The Kaiser may not interfere with a members local laws unless said otherwise in those laws.
  • Each nation is to operate independently from the Commonwealth/Empire with the exceptions listed below.
  • In the event Shireroth goes to war, each member is required to send part of their military force to help.
  • A member may declare war on a non-member nation without the consent of the Kaiser, but would require the Kaiser's blessing to get Imperial aid.
  • In the event a member goes to war with a non-member country, the Kaiser has the option to send Commonwealth/Imperial troops to aid the member country. This is part of the above law.
  • Each member may have 1 vote in the Commonwealth/Imperial Assembly.
  • Each new Kaiser must be voted on by the Assembly from a pool of Nominees.
  • Each nation may nominate their own head of state to be Kaiser of the Commonwealth/Empire. This is optional.
  • No member may invade another member unless approved by the Kaiser, proclaiming the reason is legitimate.
  • Any member may leave the Commonwealth/Empire at any time, without repercussions or consent by the Kaiser.
  • Each member, may keep their Micras map color, unless they wish to use Shireroths to signify their membership.
I don't want to sound like some raving, powerhungry firebrand, I just wanted to make sure that as King, I would have 90% of the authority over my nation, and that it remained independent.

I think that no leader (well, maybe except you :) ) would want to join something like that. Why give up that much independence for membership in a commonwealth, even if it is nifty?

Actually I based that off of how the Holy Roman Empire worked. And also some of the British Commonwealth. Essentially no one will want to give up anything. It gives the member option to exclude the Kaiser from the law making process of that nation, leaving only a military obligation, and one to vote for the new Kaiser. Besides Mike the 90% was a facetious remark, I plan on giving up none of my Independence lol. Without some sort of obligation to the Kaiser, the idea is moot. Without ties, it would simply crumble and be pointless.

EDIT: Come to think of it that is more like the UN, because even it has military obligations from its members, as well as voting obligations. And at this point it would be more like YAMO-UN than a commonwealth or similar entity.

That isn't mich of a problem I think, it doesn't affect the indepency of a nation.
[*]Each new Kaiser must be voted on by the Assembly from a pool of Nominees.

I thought more about the Shirerithian kaiser as Emperor of the Empire but to vote for his secretary (otherwise you get the conflict of who is the strongest: the Kaiser or Kaiser? :p ).

[*]No member may invade another member unless approved by the Kaiser, proclaiming the reason is legitimate.
That isn't fun anymore. :(
[*]Any member may leave the Commonwealth/Empire at any time, without repercussions or consent by the Kaiser.
[*]Each member, may keep their Micras map color, unless they wish to use Shireroths to signify their membership.[/list]
Of course.
