Speaking of Ancient things-

Post by Kaiser Loki III »

Has this been "mined out", anything that should be scavenged? Sakat knows, there is a lot there.

Shireroth's ancient ezboard, transmogrified into a yuku board.

I have a Yuku account from Zindaria. I wonder ....
*tries to log in*

Interesting. I can log in, but it wants an admin to approve my access to that particular board ...
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

Yes, that will be true for everyone I think, except the Admin accounts. Hopefully the admin status of various accounts which belong to people still around have been carried over.
Vilhelm von Benkern - The Dolphin-...Count
:: Formerly just "benkern"
:: Rook Sentry of the Order of the Vorpal Blade
:: Count of Mar Sara IIRC
:: Former Baron of Absentia AFAIK, before that Baron of Vorpmadal TBH; also Former Duke of Yardistan IMHO
:: Dux Emeritus of the Order of Mischievous Intent

It takes moo to mango!

I tried to log in a long time ago, but you need approval from the admins. So I forgot it until now.

Are all posts from that forum moved to here, or are there still some important Kildarian posts on it?
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

Speaking of ancient things ... where did Illumination go? I know it was an Elwynn county at some point but I can't find it ....

EZBoard has recently decided to go around gutting things and because they're tied to Yuku they did it to a few of those as well.

Most of my old forums, like the PRH, have been totally gutted of all material, just not deleted yet. Although at this point they might as well be deleted. So in short, if there's anything people want to save, they had better go look for it now.

There is, I believe, some kind of tool you can download to extract the database from Yuku and EzBoard forums. Would be lying if I said I had the link though...

The story of such things is told in these two updates:

*EDIT [Feb 18 2008]: Added Yuku converter.
*EDIT [April 22 2008]: removed Yuku and Proboards converters, per request.

That was for SMF, but it seems the most immediately available Yuku->phpBB crawler-converter has also been canned by request of Yuku. I guess they don't want to lose their business. It's fortunate we moved over while still on ezBoard - it seems ezboard->phpBB crawler-converters are available through non-samizdat channels, so the change in policy must have been recent.

Let me know if the extraction software turns up. There are other boards that should be copied.

Really makes me wonder why, if we had a domain all those years ago, we didn't just host a forum ourselves rather than using *&^$ing EzBoard! :knife

The community at large was on ezboard. You could log-in once and visit dozens of MNs.

The "downside" (well, one of many) is that it made multiple-log-ins a breeze.

Before that, the MN forum of choice was Casual Forums. Even sloppier and easier to manipulate. :evil

Meh. EzBoard was anything but Ez.
I still stand by my belief that ProBoards is the easiest to customise, what with it being open source HTML and all.
PhpBB is impossible. I'm fully confident in that analysis now.
