MiniInt takeover

Post by Ari Rahikkala »

Straylight will be used as the primary testing ground for the new Automatican style until it's close enough to finished that I feel confident about putting it in Bjorngard, since:

- it's an open, usable forum (although quite likely to become unusable more than occasionally during development)
- it contains enough threads, and sufficiently long threads that I can test pagination in several places
- it's my forum :p

True dat.

Edit: Though, reminds me sort of the Dinarchy...

If the colour scheme reminds you of the Dinarchy, well, that's entirely my fault. Hesam hasn't yet had his say on it. Most of the work I've been doing has been taking out all the page metainformation in preparation for moving it off to the side, in hopes that the end result would look reasonably neat...

I like the way the text is slimmer, it makes it easier to read. Not having to go from left and right all over the screen is a bonus. Maybe we could slim the body on Shireroth's main forums too?

PS: I realize this sounds stupid... but I hope you understood... :)

I find this format painful to read, and it doesn't make me want to stick around any longer than I have to. I hope this doesn't become a part of the entire forum.

Excellent! While pretty much any criticism is moot at this point, you did just sign up for my program to provide insights and critiques about problems with the theme in the future (once I've at least gotten the basics in and Hesam is reasonably happy with it :)). Those places that say "x goes here" aren't going to keep just saying "x goes here" forever, you know :p

I don't know why but I got a terrible headache when I saw this. :knife

Could you make the contrast between the charcoal grey and the other forum gray a little more pronounced? The font colour is perfect, but the wacky coloured buttons look a tad off.

Yeah, they're just the subsilver2 (i.e. kinda-sorta-default) icons with colours negated, hence the looking-a-tad-offness. I put them up here because they only look a tad off, not absolutely inappropriate like the malarbor-theme icons. I'll have to look for a more appropriate iconset somewhere...

It's not that terrible actually... I'm starting to warm to it...

The "x goes here" gives this sort of semi-artistic "Under construction" feel.

The blue background areas I could afford to lose, but I like the contrast in the message/field areas.

I like the ochre text. I liked the Dinarchy's forums Ari. :p

It's sooo good to have a forum back that is easy to navigate and comfortable to read. Please don't go back to the other one.

I like the graphic at the top and right side. It looks very art-deco. However, I find the thread topics and color combinations very hard to read, and I want to leave that page as soon as possible. I happen to be happy reading a more traditional-looking subforum. I wonder at some of the choices you made of colors because they are harder to read than the normal Shireroth forum at its least legible. Perhaps you could make sure there is a greater contrast between the entries and the backgrounds. The words need to pop, and they seem to recede into the wallpaper. I apologize for the critizism, and I understand you are trying to fit this to the new topics, but you might tweek it a bit more in the color contrasts and the visibility areas. Thanks for letting me give you my unvarnished opinion.

That's funny, Shireroth's red-violet on blue never really agreed with my eyes... anyway, I tried to make the topic titles a little bit more readable. Do they look better to you?

I replied at length on the new subforum. I still find that the headings without the cursor pointing to them are still almost blending into the background. When they are lit up, they are quite easy to see. I don't know how to make them more visible without detracting a bit from the texts of people's posts. You might experiment with something halfway in between.
