I was actually thinking about that metaphor the other day... who would have thought that we would turn into a slow burning red star...
Re: Expo '08
Hmmm... if Shireroth ever does collapse, then that wouldn't bode well for the nearby nations... BLACK HOLE!!!

Yes.. our mass would create a hole in space time of infinite density and you would all be fucked...
Odd point on that subject.. I was playing with the equations once.. and... from the point of view of the rest of the universe, an object with both mass and length would become a point of infinite density if it reached the speed of light. But would not actually become a singularity since it never actually collapse in past its schwarzschild radius from it's own point of view. Just to the rest of the universe would it be a point of infinite density. Then again, since the equation just deals with length contraction....it's width would remain... so from the point of view of things in front and behind it's just getting more massive not actually contracting. Then again. My understanding of relativity isn't that advanced and this was all just me dickin' around in High School physics..

The farther a galaxy is away from us , the faster it is receeding
At some point, the farthest mass will reach the speed of light relative to us
Thus it will reach infnite mass
Maybe we are inside of a singularity?

Doubtful.
Ah.. you speak of Dark Energy?
You know the funny thing about the constant speed of light? It's not constant for everything. It will slow down when going through certain substances. Boss Einstein Condensates. Fun stuff.

Re: Expo '08
I am pretty sure that, although we use metaphors like "receding", no galaxies are involved in any actual movement. Space itself is expanding, which leads to greater distance between other galaxies and us, just as if the galaxies were moving themselves. The farther a galaxy is away from us , the faster it is receeding
At some point, the farthest mass will reach the speed of light relative to us
Thus it will reach infnite mass
Maybe we are inside of a singularity?
Space can expand at whatever speed it wants to without encountering any speed-of-light paradoxes.

Re: Expo '08
Actually...doesn't mass decrease as speed increases since mass is being changed into energy? At the speed of light it would be a massless, 1-dimensional pure-energy...thing...where time would not seem to pass when looked into...
I'm confused...

Re: Expo '08
Now you're getting into the spirit of it!
Ignoring fuel expenditure, the mass increases. Taking into account the energy required to reach the speed of light, yes all mass would need to be expelled as energy to get the speed needed. Thus the speed of light being a limit that can't be reached by matter. The amount of energy needed to gain the speed of light will increase exponentially as the speed of the object approaches the speed of light. However, due to this increase in energy the object will never reach light speed as long as it has mass of any amount.

My family used to have a car. It was a mini, all 7 of us getting into it was quite fun. An old thing, it could reach speeds up to about 60mph.

In ............ normal space....a limit that can't be reached by matter.
(Six in a mini? A close family indeed! We had trouble with four in a SAAB model 93.)
Excuse me, I have to inspect the photon controls.
Just in case we are called in to the war.

Maybe Shireroth could bring some information about the micronational religions? There is a growing interest in Batavië for that.
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki
