The concept of the Vanafolk Maxims is mentioned in the Ancient Covenant.

The Vanafolk Maxims are a collection of succinct formulations, ancient beyond the memory of woman, of fundamental principles, general truths, and rules of conduct for the Vanafolk. The concept is mentioned in the Ancient Covenant and they constitute a very important part of Vanic Law.

List of Vanafolk Maxims

  • A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.
  • A lustful mind is a joy for life.
  • A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.
  • Always walk tall.
  • Appreciate and enjoy the wonderful Gods-given gift of your bodies.
  • As the Gods require, so must it be.
  • As we journey through the day, the Gods are with us on our way.
  • Anyone can pray to the Gods in whatever manner zie likes.
  • Be bare or be square.
  • Be your own (wo)man and walk with the Gods.
  • Beauty must not be covered up.
  • Being deeply loved by someone gives one strength, while loving someone deeply gives one courage.
  • Before the Gods, we are small. With the Gods we walk tall.
  • Believe in joy.
  • Courage is the most important of all the virtues for without courage, one cannot practice any other virtue consistently.
  • Dedicate your gifts to the Gods for the benefit of all.
  • Do as the Gods say, and good things shall come your way.
  • Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
  • Enjoy yourself.
  • Everything that lives is born out of sex, including the soul.
  • Faith is a gateway to life, not a substitute for it.
  • Faith is responsibility, or it is nothing at all.
  • Fear not the Norns, for Frigg spins our way.
  • Give the Gods Their Due and good things shall come to you.
  • Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling.
  • Intuition is not the enemy, but the ally, of reason.
  • Keep a clean heart and a joyful spirit.
  • Keep it in the family.
  • Keep the laws and counsels of the Gods and we shall always do well.

  • Those who are guilty of conscience, cannot bear the innocence of others.

  • We are what the Gods have made us.

  • Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong.
  • When we speak in love and live by love, truth in love will be our comfort.
