Political interest groups, commonly known as "P.I.G."s, were Kaiser Los II's attempt to compromise between factions supporting and opposing political parties. Erik Metzler had banned political parties from the beginning of Shireroth as possible elements of conflict and rebellion. When [[Philip Locke]] agitated for a more democratic system, he found the inability to create a political party a series obstacle. He created PAST, the Progressive Alliance of Shireroth Today, in an attempt to circumvent the law by claiming it was a group of people with a like-minded interest, rather than a full-fledged political party. He likened it to the Old Boys' Club, which managed to push its interests without an official structure. This move was derided by the "members" of the Old Boys' Club, who thought PAST was a political party by a different name. Kaiser Los II sought a compromise solution. Political interest groups were to be separated from political parties by strict requirements placed upon them. Political interest groups could not recruit, could not push for certain people to gain certain positions, and could not have their own forums. This satisfied neither side, although it did quiet the debate for a few weeks. As part of his crackdown on the reformist elements that flourished during his predecessor's reign, Kaiser Raynor XI made a decree banning political interest groups as well as political parties. The decree affected only PAST, as no other interest groups had been set up during that time.
