History of the Islands

The Islands of Elutherios and Akis have an extensive history, beginning as an island just outside of the southern frontier of the United Baronies of Treesia. During the Third Era it fell under the control of a succession of states: the Empire of Shenzhou, the Republic of Kappitolya, the Nation of Alteria (who became a member of the Grand Commonwealth), the Empire of Norona. During the Fourth Age, Elutherios and Akis remained under Norona, which had become the Holzer Empire before contracting and joining the Bovic Empire of Natopia as Holzborg.

During the Fifth Age, Elutherios and Akis came under Antican rule. The Second Antican Republic established control over the island, which had long fallen out of control of Natopia, in order to act as a forward position against Shireroth during the Shireroth-Elwynn conflict. The Anticans gave these islands their modern names and established a military base at Fort Kezan, named in honor of Operation Light Blue Octopus. Following the collapse of the Second Antican Republic, the territories of Kaikias-Overseas became a protectorate of the Elwynnese Union, which in turn joined Shireroth at the close of the Fifth Age.

Under Kaiser Aiomide, the islands of Elutherios and Akis were organized under the County Palatine of Kezan to act as a seat of the Kaiser's house, House Octavius. During the latter half of the Kaiser's reign, House Octavius was reconstituted as a noble house and established its first settlements in Kezan. When the remainder of Kaikias-Overseas collapsed and was invaded by Stormark, Kaikian refugees fled to Kezan in the hope of retaining an Antican life. House Octavius guaranteed the upholding of the traditional Antican rights and Kezan's population rapidly expanded.
