Kezan, also known as the County Palatine of Kezan is an Imperial Dominion of Shireroth, consisting of two islands, Elutherios and Akis, as well as a number of islets, sandbars, and artificial structures going 24 nautical miles outward from the coastline of the two main islands.

Kezan is under the perpetual rule of House Octavius, in accordance with Imperial Decrees 637 and 658.

History of the Islands

Before Antica (First through Fourth Eras)

The Islands of Eleutherios and Akis enter the historical record during the Late Second Era, geographically located between the United Baronies of Treesia and the Dutchy of Kildare. During the Third Era, the islands fell under a quick succession of various states: the Empire of Shenzhou, the Republic of Kappitolya, the Nation of Alteria (who became a member of the Grand Commonwealth), and finally the Empire of Norona. During the Fourth Age, Norona became the Holzer Empire before a period of decline and finally becoming a part of the Bovic Empire of Natopia. At an unknown time before the Fifth Age, the islands fell out of Natopian control.

Overseas Operations Base Kezan

During the Fifth Era, the Antican Republic took control over Eleutherios and Akis, gave them their modern names, and established an Overseas Operations Base (OOB) Kezan in western Eleutherios to act as a forward position against Shireroth during the greater Shireroth-Elwynn conflict. While some citizens did settle around the island's port town (future City of Idassa), the islands were mostly left to its indigenous inhabitants, a sparse network of farming and fishing villages.

In 4915 ASC, the Antican Republic abruptly collapsed in a cataclysm brought upon by the hijacking of Antica's autonomous weapons systems. Much of Mainland Antica was irradiated and the population severely reduced. Kaikias-Overseas attempted to maintain control over the outlying regions, including Eleutherios and Akis. By the end of the Fifth Age, Kaikias itself fell, adding to the existing Antican diaspora.

Founding of the County Palatine

In 5089 ASC, Kaiser Aiomide, a descendant of the Octavii on the paternal side, created House Octavius as a noble house in Shireroth and organized the islands of Eleutherios and Akis into the County Palatine of Kezan to act as its seat.

By this time, the next wave of the Antican Diaspora began, with Kaikias-Overseas collapsing into ruin and being seized by Stormark. Many displaced Kaikian Anticans were resettled in Kezan under the promise that House Octavius would uphold traditional Antican rights.
