Kaiser Los II
The name used by Scott Alexander as Kaiser of Shireroth from June to September of 2004. Kaiser Los II succeeded Kaiser Lacrymosa II who had ruled for only a single day in the events surrounding the end of the [[War of the Wylthean Succession]]. Among the problems confronting Los were the betrayal of trust some saw in the attempt by the "Old Boys' Club" to rig the war, the return of Philip Locke to active politics, and the summer slump. Los managed to delay and lessen but not completely defuse the political crisis (see Summer of '04) but was at least very successful in keeping activity high during the summer. Los II was responsible for the gift economy, an attempt to create an economic system for Shireroth that can be deemed successful if compared to other Shirerithian economies, but probably in no other way. In the field of foreign affairs, he began Shireroth's long and fruitful quasi-alliance with Antica and raised its profile in the international arena. Among new citizens to join Shireroth in Los' reign were Renee Alyssa, Ozarka Monto, and Iain de Vembria. During a land dispute between the County of Florencia and [[Duchy of Yardistan]], Los II decided on the side of Florencia. The Yardistanis revolted in response, and Los responded by giving more Yardistani land to Florencia as a punishment and then completely ignoring the Yardistanis. Although Yardistan eventually backed down and Los' decision stood, the Kaiser was criticized (mostly by Yardistanis) for being too serious and heavy-handed in the situation. The relations between the Duchy of Yardistan and the Line of Kalir have been somewhat frosty ever since, although this shows signs of warming in the present period. Kaiser Los II also was a key organizer of ShireCon '04 in Sonoma, although many of the events he had planned failed to materialize. At the end of the convention, Los grudgingly passed the crown to Erik Metzler in the form of Raynor XI. In fictional history, Kaiser Los II was a member of the [[Line of Kalir]] from Hyperborea. Los II is one of the main characters in Unaimed Arrow.
