John Darcy

John Paul Darcy (b: 19 August 1968) is an Australian micronationalist, author, cricket umpire, golfer, tenpin bowler, musician, photographer, astronomer and working family man. He is married to Narelle (not a micronalialist), and has two daughters Rhiannon (4y old) and Lauren (2.5y). His paid employment is of little consequence, as it involves absolutely none of his interests and merely exists to prevent him from starving. John spends most of his time in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, a tiny portion of which (say, 2 metres by 1.5 metres) is claimed as the territory of the Republic of Anthelia. It is one of the long-term national goals of the Republic to gain enough territory for a golf course of its own. For the time being, it is some consolation that one can see mountains from this small territory, thus satisfying one of the maxims of life: to live within sight of either the sea or mountains.

Micronational Career

John was first sighted in micronations in the specialist project Republic of Mars, which he joined in late June 2001. Quickly rising to prominence, he was elected to Parliament at the end of that year and became Deputy Prime Minister. Unfortunately, the Republic of Mars had already passed its peak of activity and utility, and the election at which John was elevated was the last ever held. In 2003 there were two distinct attempts to revive the concept of a micronation based on Mars. The first was The Mars Game, owned and operated by Miran Hojnik of Slovenia. The second was FutureMars, owned and operated by John Darcy, which was a rival to The Mars Game but founded on principles carried over from Republic of Mars. FutureMars was intended to be a user-driven RPG, but never grew beyond a development project, due to insurmountable logistical problems. It formally ended when the domain names expired in June 2004. It was around that time - June 2004 - that John found the Republic of Deseret in a search for a small, democratic micronation which would accept his creative input. It transpired that the founders of Deseret were not all that keen for outsiders to assert themselves, and by the end of July 2004 John had given up on them and made the Declaration of Independence which brought Anthelia into being. John has been President of Anthelia since May 2004, and prior to that was the Administrator under the pre-Constitution arrangements which governed the Republic from its foundation on 27 July 2004. John holds no other micronational citizenships.
