Coalition 1660 was formed in Fatehpur Sikri, Amarr on 06.XIV.1660 when the Allied Union of Tolerated Minorities reconstituted itself as a centrist democratic federalist bloc, seeking to gain electoral representation in the counties of Amarr, Benacia and the Iridian Isles, the Barrowlands, the the Forest of Angularis, Florencia, Highpass, Lachmeren, Lachmodan, Lywind, Shimmerspring and the Tellian Mandate.

Policies

The electoral platform of Coalition 1660 contained the following key points:

  • The surrender of Kizzy Drakland, the Sibyls, and all known or suspected members of the Coven of the Sun to face local justice.
  • Abolition of the Monarchy at the State level.
  • The reform of the present Imperial State, replacing the tyrannical Dominion of Malarboria with the Mercatorian Commonwealth under a Republican constitution.
  • Taking Amarr Oil (an ESB Group company) into public ownership.
  • A reduction of Imperial taxation.
  • Liberalisation of interstate trading regulations.
  • Standardisation of railway gauges within the present Imperial State.

  • An edict of religious toleration.
  • A decree protecting property owners against land claims by Revenants.
  • The establishment of a professional and full-time home defence force supported by a volunteer militia.
  • The appointment of Lieutenants to be undertaken by the Kaiser and Steward only on the basis of recommendations made by the local government.
  • Lieutenants to be local officials with family connections to the lieutenancy to which they have been appointed and to have ten years of public service prior to their appointment.
  • No criminals or drunks to serve in the Imperial Constabulary, particularly the Imperial Marshals.
  • Abuses of office to be investigated openly and fairly.
  • Extrajudicial killings by agents of the Imperial Government, especially the Chamber of the Crypteia, to be fully investigated.
  • Discrimination by Imperialists against the Lach community to be investigated and atoned for.
  • A formal summit meeting between the Imperial Republic and the Tellian Confederation where the Imperial Government will:
    • Apologise to the Tellian Confederation for violations of treaty during the reign of Kaiseress Noor.
    • Undertake the necessary actions to fully adhere to the provisions of the treaty establishing the Mandate of Tellia.

Post-election history

The Coalition has worked with Humanists and Reformists in the Folksraad and Adelsraad for the furtherance of its objectives but is frequently frustrated by the Humanist preoccupation with rearmament and seeming disdain for provincial minorities, especially the Laqi. Controversially, cooperation with the N&H Party shaded over into active collaboration in organising a revolt to support the invasion of N&H aligned forces which transformed the Domain of Malarboria into the State of Modan during a brief civil war (1660&ndash1662).

The Grand Commander of the N&H aligned Army of the Southern League, Daniyal ibn Daniyal Simrani-Kalirion, subsequently proclaimed himself Prince of Modan, and promulgated the Constitution of Drakorda which established a new Principate into which, it has been uncomfortably observed, N&H Party stalwarts, veterans of the Army of the Southern League and any number of hangers-on from the House of Osman were inserted as appointees to the senior archonates, governorships, and directorships, with the most favoured Modani collaborators receiving, at best, second tier appointments in the administration. This has led some of the Coalition rank and file to muse aloud as to whether they had been liberated or conquered. In early 1663 the majority were still willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the newly installed regime, but the drawing up of an unfavourable "scorecard" setting the Coalition's manifesto points against the government's record of delivery (with a dismal score of 30 out of 220) was clearly intended to remind the Prince of Modan that his new power rested upon the consent of the governed.
