1657 Steward election
In 1657, the Landsraad held an election for Steward for the term 1657–1660 after the expiry of the term of Waldemar Zinkgraven. The elected Steward was Mira Octavius-Aryani, running against Lady Rei, Princess of Shireroth.

Straw polls
Prior to the actual election, both the Adelsraad and the Folksraad held informal straw polls. Despite their informality, they were closely scrutinized by the elite and the media alike.

The Adelsraad voted twice in the staw polls.
First Adelsraad straw poll
In the Adelsraad the Count Palatine of Kezan received 71 votes, and Lady Rei, Princess of Shireroth, received 48 votes, with 21 votes abstaining. 71 votes meanr a majority.

Second Adelsraad straw poll
After complaints from the Elsyran Democrats that their votes were improperly registered, the President of the Adelsraad held a new straw poll.
In the Adelsraad the Count Palatine of Kezan received 74 votes, and Lady Rei, Princess of Shireroth, received 48 votes, with 18 votes abstaining. 71 votes meant a majority.
