The Republic of Verelexia was thus founded as<br /> a constitutional republic under the charismatic leadership of<br /> [[Benjamin Gray]], who held the position of President and Lord<br /> Protector (essentially a secondary but permanent president)<br /> The Republic later considered seceding from the United Kingdom of Great<br /> Britain and Northern Ireland and for a short time had &quot;annexed&quot;<br /> territory in London, making the homes of its citizens embassies and<br /> consulates. More patriotic members of the Republic however opposed this<br /> move and eventually Lord Gray revoked their citizenship as Lord<br /> Protector, claiming that they had undermined the constitution. Other<br /> members renounced their citizenship.<br /> The Republic was left alone for some time until the &quot;Rebirth&quot;. Gray,<br /> now an [[Attera]]n citizen, rewrote the Constitution, limiting the<br /> powers of the Lord Protector and allowing for a freer society. A<br /> website was created, consisting of one webpage containing a link to the<br /> constitution and Gray&#039;s e-mail address. After some e-mails from<br /> interested potential citizens, a website and forum was built and went<br /> public in September 2004.<br /> Verelexia has in the online micronational sector however been mostly<br /> unsuccessful. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has failed to<br /> respond to any of the President&#039;s e-mails and the other two citizens<br /> fail to post on the forums and have expressed a lack of interest in the<br /> nation.<br /> == The Future of the Republic ==<br /> The Republic has essentially become an egostan however there are hopes<br /> to revive it and make it into a proper state. There have been some<br /> talks with micronationalists about how to resurrect the nation, and<br /> applications for citizenship are still accepted. The Emperor of<br /> Alexandria, formerly [[Madland]], has offered to merge with Verelexia,<br /> but given what happened regarding [[Antica]], the offer was declined.<br /> == The Third Republic ==<br /> Verelexia was resurrected in December 2004 with an emergency<br /> presidential act dissolving all legal institutions save that of the<br /> Office of the President of the Republic and the creation of the<br /> Constituent Assembly, an organ comprised of all Verelek citizens tasked<br /> with creating a new constitution. The Constituent Assembly was called<br /> to order on Wednesday 8th December 2004.<br /> == Death ==<br /> After the EzBoard attacks of 2005, Verelexia&#039;s forums were completely<br /> wiped out. Given the general failure of the country, partly due to<br /> having no specific purpose or culture, a generic constitution, and no<br /> active citizen base outside of a few &quot;multi-nationals&quot;, it was decided<br /> to close down the Republic and it is now dead.
