History
Ž is one of the most recent inventions as a County in the Imperial Republic of Shireroth, created in November 2008 by the then Baron of K'Tzuni. Although Erik Mortis voiced concern about the miniscule size of the County, its creation was endorsed by the Duke of Brookshire at the time, Mike Fors.
Part of Hadjimehmetov's decision to create the new county was for a special, autonomous retreat for the Barons of K'Tzuni to maintain a summer palace, from where they could rule without the hubbub and stress of Brookshire's capital of Brookshire Hamlet in Modan-lach.
As one of the smaller islands in the historical Khaz-Modan Gulf, Ž has an ancient and rich history, of which its few residents are fiercly proud. Although it has the smallest population of any Shirereithan County, it has become somewhat of a popular tourist retreat for the elite of Brookshire, who maintain wealthy villas and palaces all around the island's secluded coves.
This is keeping in fashion with the many ancient residences found when the island was part of a great Khaz-Modani trading post. Underneath the crystal waters, one can see the now submerged buildings of the cities, dating from around b2309 ASC- sometime before the few recorded Khaz-Modani tales of Ke'Najrad.
Much of the island's history remains mysterious and highly contented by leading academics in the field. Whilst the extent of the ancient coastline is known- presumably levelled by an earthquake- the ruins which litter the island lay barren until numerous Shirithan Barons pillaged and stole the elaborate carved stones of the mausoleums from the necropolis, which can now be found inside numerous Baronial palaces across Shireroth.
Laqi fishermen began to move to the island just after the gradual decline of the Khaz-Modan Empire, and the island is now almost entirely Laqi-populated- the majority of the two major cities, Akhuleti and Kanarrh, were buily by Laqi immigrants using pillaged stone from the old Khaz-Modani ruins.
The strange name of the County, Ž, is one of the few non-Laqi names. It is believed to be the pronunciation of one Khaz-Modani hieroglyph which is found on the mysterious obelisks which can be found across the island. Pronounced zh, the name Ž has entered the Laqi language as a synonym for a a former Khaz-Modani Island such as this one.

Plan of the Temple Complex
Overview
High on the plains of the remotest regions of Modan-lach is the Yoni Temple Complex, a mysterious but highly revered Cedrist Temple Complex and one of the most important Cedrist monuments to the Laqi People. Its exact founding is unknown- and despite not being mentioned in the Tales from the Khaz Modan, archaeologists have confirmed the prior existence of a Khaz-Modani structure on the site.
Included here are monuments to Maji, Yoktarh and Kohlarh, Yuuurgh, Malarbor, as well as numerous facilities for the faithful- every Shirereithan New Year, thousands of pilgrims make their way through the wastes of Upper Lach to reach the remote Temple Complex, where the Acolytes and their staff run a hospice which offers free food and lodging to the faithful.
The Sanctum of Malarbor is one of the oldest Cedrist monuments in Shireroth, and the attached Wishing Pool is a source of great holiness for the pilgrims who venture there. Numerous pagodas litter the grounds of the complex- most of which are maintained by skilled gardeners to create an atmosphere of natural tranquility- and the pagodas each contain a spiral staircase leading to an observation deck, from which the giant bells on top of each pagoda are rung every midnight to appease the G-ds for their graciousness and blessings to the people of Shireroth.

Main Temples
The Altar of the Four Winds is a highly specialised structure, usually used when a Kaiser, Acolyte, or High Priest dies, and their ashes are scattered to the four winds. Four immense rare beeswax candles, believed to have been made by one of the original hermits who first used this site for meditation and spiritual enlightenment, are kept under lock and key here and kept continuously. It is rumoured that should the candles be blown out, the next Kaiser will be deposed in a bloody and often incredibly undesirable manner. The Kaiserial Shrine itself is reserved for the Kaiser and their court to pay homage to the G-ds when they come on pilgrimage to the temple, and cross the threshold of the great ancient bridge across the chasm.

The Chasm and Caves
The Great Upper Lach Chasm, as it is known, is a huge, mysterious scar in the mountainous lands of Upper Lach and is perhaps one of the deepest such natural features in Southern Shireroth. From the ancient bridge above, throw a rock and see how long it takes to hit the bottom. No surprise why bungee jumping has never been popular here. Carved into the cliff face just below round level are the caves of ascetics who seek spiritual enlightenment from Malarbor and live in the dank sides of the chasm wall, eating bats and things. They're all interconnected by rope ladders and accessible only by the small path from Yuuurgh's Pagoda.
Small streams from the tranquil ponds of the Temple Complex trickle down into small waterfalls into the eerie valley floor below, partly obscured by weeds and algae, and inhabited only by bats and the the blind cave fish which live in the underground Yoni river which flows underground from either end of the chasm. The caves are treacherous, and littered with the corpses of adventurers. Rumours of a mysterious ancient temple deep in the caves below are often heard, but the Acolytes and resident Priests at Yoni Temple Complex refuse to comment. One cave explorer managed to find a strange stone door with a pair of eyes carved into it, and heard some mysterious chanting in an ancient Khaz-Modani language from within, but this has never been established by anyone else in the labyrinth of tunnels, sumps, and potholes in the underground river complex.
One thing is for sure, however. The waters of this blessed Temple Complex are potent and pure, and are taken by many on pilgrimage- especially ethnic Laqi people, who view the Complex as one of their race's finest accomplishments.
Yoni Temple Complex takes around three hours by bus from Brookshire Hamlet- but most instead choose to walk the snowy passes of Upper Lach, where only heather and the Laqi Mountain Lynx choose to live.

The Republic of Ashkenatza was founded in August 2008. Ashkenatza developed rapidly- its existence only being released to the Micronational Community at large after the Constitution of 2008 was ratified and a Government formed.

Politics
The Republic is a Parliamentary Democracy consisting of one legislative assembly, the Knesset, in the capital, Kolmenitzkiy. All legislation is debated in the Knesset, yet all Constitutional Amendments require a 75% majority of the Knesset's vote to be signed into law. Government departments in Ashkenatza are highly autonomous, and are funded, run, and administered almost semi-independently of the Knesset- their role being to draft legislation for the Knesset to amend, debate, and vote on.
Consisting some one hundred seats, the Knesset's seats are divided according to political parties' winnings in general elections, which are held every three months. Coalition governments are often formed as per the traditionaly large number of Political Parties in Ashkenatza.
The Head of State of Ashkenatza is the Nohsi (roughly translating from the Yiddish as leader or elector) and has the power to veto and delay bills, as well as being honourary marshal of the Armed Forces.
Political parties currently operating in Ashkenatza (at the time of writing) include:
Dray Bagrif Partei (Three Principles Party)
Ashkenatzer Aristotelisher Partei (Aristotelian Party)
Di Algemeyner Bund (Ashkenatzi United Bund)
The first Nohsi was His Excellency Laz Krakowski, of a Dray Bagrif-Algemeyner Bund coalition.

Culture
Ashkenatza's cultural development is highlighted in the life of the Eastern European Shtetl. Provincial names such as Litovina and Volhyria are generally variations on regions of the Jewish Pale of Settlement of the Russian Empire. Yiddish is also made extensive use of, being the language of the National Anthem (Zog Nit Keynmol, by Hirsh Glick) and of the State Motto.
The Latin Scripted Yiddish system is used as a header on all official government documents.

State Symbols
The Ashkenatzi State Flag was adopted in September 2008, and is of the 2:3 ratio. White and scarlet, the white bands symbolise purity of thought and will, and the snow which blankets the forests and plains of the Ashkenatzi nation, and the scarlet symbolises the struggle for independence and the fertile black earth soils of Ashkenatza's farmlands.
The symbol in the middle of the flag is the Hebrew and Yiddish letter Aleph, the first letter of the Hebrew and Yiddish alphabets and the first letter in spelling the name Ashkenatza in Hebrew script. The Aleph is a commonly used symbol and has come to be a somewhat unofficial logo for all things Ashkenatzi.

History
Ashkenatza's appearance on the micronational stage in August 2008 was during a time of great confusion for the Anglophone Micronational community- the death of Lovely, the Grand Commonwealth, the MCS-GSO divide and the imminent closure of the Micronational News Network MNN made it very difficult to recruit new citizens, leaving Ashkenatza's citizen base a very particular one, mainly old Matbaics and Babkhans.
Ashkenatza's first intermicronational step was claiming land on Benacia, immediately drawing its foreign relations closer to Shireroth, and balancing the Ashkenatzi-Babkhan closeness which had been forming. Babkhan economic and military support to Ashkenatza was highly important, as was contact with Ashkenatza's neighbour Tellia, who shared similar concerns about possible Amokolian belligerence to the North. There had, however, been disagreements with Tellia regarding land expansions, and although Tellia eventually capitulated to Ashkenatzi ownership over the Southern Litovina area, Ashkenatza guaranteed the constitutional rights of ethnic Tellian citizens living there.
Almost immediately, after the threat of war became very real, the Central Benacian Relations Conference, overseen by Shireroth and held in Romero, the capital of Tellia, agreed on a peaceful land expansion to share unclaimed inner Benacia, which allowed expansions for Amokolia, Ashkenatza, Tellia, and Ashkenatza's friendly western neighbour, Batavia.
Still, the threat of war lingered and Tellia and Ashkenatza remained militarily very close, supported by Babkha- with whom, however, alliance negotiations were not incredibly successful. How the widening rift between monarchist and socialist micronations in the Micras Sector will affect Ashkenatzi politics remains to be seen, but the tenuous coalition of the socialist Bundist Party and social liberal Dray Bagrif Partei under the leadership of Nohsi Laz Krakowski steered an easy going course intermicronationally for the first few months of the nation's existence.

Economy
The national currency of Ashkenatza is the Shekl, divided into one hundred rubl. As per the failure of the MX2 intermicronational banking system, Ashkenatza makes use of the micronational PhpBank software by Sander Dielemann for all transactions- which at the moment does not facilitate easily for intermicronational trade. Ashkenatza's economy currently sees one billion Shekl in circulation, which are paid on a monthly salary level to government employees and on a budget level for all government departments. Unemployed citizens recieve benefit, and there is very little business taxation currently so as to facilitate the development of a free market economy. How the socialist principles of the Bundist party and its like will affect market trade in Ashkenatza remains to be seen.
Ashkenatza's raw materials are chiefly mined iron ore and gold, though arable land and cattle pastures also contribute a significant amount of the micronation's GDP.
Several companies are now functioning in Ashkenatza- and a great deal of early government expenditure has gone into a Transport and Communications Package, as well as military rearmament.

Military
The Ashkenatzi Military Forces currently serve a defensive purpose, though substantial efforts have been made into Ashkenatzi heavy armourment and aircraft design. Unusually, helium zeppelins are favoured for observation purposes and sometimes even for air combat, and the Shalitov Armourments Bureau in Ashkenatza has developed a wide range of armoured vehicles, self-propelled artillery and tanks for the Ashkenatzi Armed Forces' (Mil'khome Byuro) use. Ashkenatza also makes use of a complex armoured train system across the nation, for troop transport and advanced communication. Some discussion regarding use of former Matbaic aircraft, the 'Dipou' fighter jet models, has started- and Babkhan military liason officers and advisors helped around late 2008 to build the core of the Ashkenatzi Armed Forces.
Currently, Ashkenatza operates only a limited naval presence, its main military commitment being focused on the land-based Teyl fun Bregmeyletzen (Territorial Defence Forces) and air-based Militerisher-Fliik Teyl.

Still, the threat of war lingered and Tellia and Ashkenatza remained militarily very close, supported by Babkha- with whom, however, alliance negotiations were not incredibly successful- and the interventionist foreign policy pursued by Rozenthal, coupled with aggressive military buildup ensured Ashkenatza gained a 'causus belli' on any nation mistreating its Jewish citizens.

The Barony of K'Tzuni, is a barony within the Duchy of Brookshire, and consists of the Counties of Modan-lach, Lywind,Jugenskaja, Ž, and Crestfall Downs.
It is currently ruled over by Maksym Hadjimehmetov who is also the Count of Modan Lach.
The exact origin of the name K'Tzuni is unknown, although it may be an ancient Laqi word meaning 'land of the wealthy plains'.

Geography
K'Tzuni is a relatively small barony with a substantial sea coast and a large inland area of mountainous and steppe regions. Modan-lach is perhaps the wealthiest and most fertile of the counties, as much trade is conducted via sea routes. The Barony borders the Barony of Dolor to the north and east, and the Barony of Lakhesis to the west. No major rivers cross through the barony, the largest flowing through Brookshire Hamlet.

History
K'Tzuni is a relatively recent invention as barony, created under the reign of Kaiser Mors V. No territorial disputes exist, though it was considered that the archipelago of islands lying due south of Modan-Lach in the Shire Sea should have been made part of the new barony.
This claim on what is Yardistan's land has since been revoked, and K'Tzuni remained a peaceful barony until the Kildare Rebellion, when its baron declared support for the Kaiser.
During this time, K'Tzuni's forces supported Kaiser Mors V and their destruction of the Elwynn Sluice, causing the flooding and devastation of the rebel-held capital of Shirekeep, led to Hadjimehmetov declaring a state of emergency and founding the Provisional Free State of K'Tzuni, founded by him to ensure a non-rebel held stronghold for any legal successor to the throne to return to. The Declaration of patriotic and royalist succession was viewed by many with scrutiny as they saw it as an illegal act. T

K'Tzuni regained activity in late February 2008 after the Laschist Revival in which a populist government was installed in K'Tzuni.

The County of Ž was also created as a subdivision of K'Tzuni during this time, during which K'Tzuni became the host county of Brookshire's Ducal Legislative Body, the Great Kehl.
Our Laqi... the sweet speech of the South <br>
Traditional Saying

Laqi is a Conlang spoken by the overwhelming majority of citizens of the county of Modan-lach and in smaller numbers in Lywind and Ž. It is a recognised official language of the Barony of K'Tzuni. Believed to have originated from dialects spoken by Khaz-Modanians in ancient times, Laqi is designed to have a Turkic appearance in its vocabulary, its alphabet designed greatly on those used by the Soviets in the 1920s for languages such as Tuvinian and Azeri. The first work on Laqi was started under the reign of Kaiser Mors V. A Laqi Phrasebook and basic grammar are currently being compiled.

Geographical Distribution
Map showing linguistic distribution of Laqi and its neighbouring languages in the Barony of K'Tzuni <br>

As the map above shows, the geographical distribution of the Laqi Language is a wide one.
The Lingua Franca of K'Tzuni, Laqi is a major Shirereithan Conlang and is used extensively by local government in K'Tzuni. Its influence leads to its common usage in the borderlands with other Baronies such as Dolor, and also in small emigré communities of Laqis in major Shirereithan cities such as Shirekeep.

Official Status
Dialects
Numerous dialects of the Laqi language exist- though the accepted norm, standardised Laqi, is understood throughout the Laqi-speaking provinces and is generally the written form, an insular variation with many now outmoded and archaic aspects of vocabulary and syntax (such as colloquial use of the plural and retaining of imported words before the Laqi Language Purification by Laqi Linguistic Board) being spoken on the small island County of Ž. Lywind also has a distinct Laqi dialect- with numerous words of Lywind English. The purest Laqi dialect is known as High-Laqi, spoken in Upper Lach, in the County of Modan-lach. It is this Laqi upon which the modern standardisation is based, and that which is taught in Laqi language schools and used for the great majority of publishing in the K'Tzuni region.
Laqi spoken in Modan-lach's coastal area is known as Low-Laqi, and has many more imported words due to earlier contact with foreign tradesmen in the Khaz Gulf. The influx of native Shirithan English speakers to K'Tzuni's capital, Brookshire Hamlet, during the time of the foundation of the Kehl (K'Tzuni's Baronial Legislative Body) also led to a noticable increase in colloquial Shirithan English words in Laqi circulating amongst Laqi speakers in the city.

History
Grammar
Laqi syntax and grammar has been heavily influenced by the calques of numerous Indo-European languages, sharing similarities in conjugation, case utilisation, and personal pronouns with both the Slavic and Germanic branches of that language family.
However, unusually for a language of Indo-European influence, Laqi is Kazakh is generally verb-final, though various permutations on SOV word order can be used depending on dialect and context.
The usage of personal pronouns and conjugation is also comparable to the Altaic family tree, however, with the Turkic system of suffix addition being employed widely across the Laqi language to conjugate verbs.
Unusually, as well as a singular and plural form of nouns, Laqi also maintains a dual form- found also in Slovenian- which is widely used. Colloquially, the plural form is often not used, instead repeating the noun twice, hyphenated, as in Indonesian and Malay.

Cases
Laqi has five cases. Case endings are applied to the last ending of a noun or adjective.
These cases are the Nominative (subject), Accusative (direct object), Genitive (possessive), Dative(indirect object), and Instrumental (comitative).
