In March 2008, Duke [[Jacobus]] found himself in a bit of a pickle. [[H4773r 3lfs0n]], the historic Baron of [[Vorpmadal]], had requested that his Barony be shipped to Brookshire post haste so it could be reunited with its historic [[Lunaris|Lunatic]] lands. The Baron at the time, [[Benkern]], Jacobus himself and H4773r decided that this was agreeable, provided the County of Mar Sara, the sole County of Vorpmadal at the time, remained Yardistani. This left Jacobus with a problem - what to do with Mar Sara, and the former Baron of Vorpmadal, Benkern?<br />
<br />
Absentia was the answer. Discussions were opened by the Duke about a new Barony for Yardistan. Many names were suggested, but eventually, [[Ari]], supreme demi-hemi-semi-god of Forum Administration, decided that Absentia was the one he was going to create and the Barony of Absentia was born. The County of Western Absentia was created soon after a claim had been lodged with the MCS to give Absentia some lands. Benkern was the first Baron; when he became Duke, Count of Western Absentia Prodigy Almighty became Baron; when he became Duke, Countess of Eastern Absentia Gilrean Treebane became Baroness.<br />

Since it's creation by [[Erik Metzler]] and [[Stjepan Aracic]], it has been a place of general insanity and political instability. It was first noted as an official body on 11 April, 2001, when the [[Hegemony of Alexandros]] annexed it. Prior to that, it was simply Erik running around and taking stuff from the former [[Flying Islands of Jasonia]].<br />
Stjepan came to visit, and when Erik asked him if he had anything to donate, Stjepan gave up several square inches of his back yard.<br />
Accordingly, the territory became known as "Yardistan".<br />
Stjepan was appointed as governor of Yardistan. As we was co-founder of [[Istvanistan]], his influence caused pieces of it's more unusual culture to be absorbed. He was considered the owner of the territory, and Kaiser Metzler I appointed him governor. Meanwhile, the famous [[Yardistani Annexation Corps]] was created by Erik, and under its name began stealing things in the name of the newly created territory.<br />
Soon after, [[The Color Rebellion]] started in response to the color layout on the Alexandros message board. It was the first [[Yardistani Rebellion]] to take place, but it basically ended when it was<br />

Stjepan became less active over time. A newer micronationalist called [[Gryphon Avocatio|Nick the Yardistani]] (who was annexed by the YAC) became active in Alexandros and saw the empty territory in which he resided as an opportunity to find his way in his new hobby. He asked [[Kaiser Metzler I]] for permission to control the territory, and it was granted, assuming that Stjepan would still be the owner.<br />
Under Nick's rule, the area quickly became a controlled anarchy. There was no formal law in Yardistan, but he was considered to be the [[Anarch]] of Yardistan.<br />
