Andreas the wise:

Built by the Jasonians at the height of their power, a place of refuge for their most treasured of posessions, and a base of operations should they turn against Shireroth, the Ocean Palace lies about 23 miles out from the Port of Halluci in Lake Christoph. After originally being built, a series of events, including the death of the President, and the cold war with Shireroth, led to it being abandoned and only it's most basic electronic defences manned - though 'basic defences' included two dozen Typhoon Class submarines of impeccable Jasonian design. It fell largely into disrepair - whole outer sections collapsed to the pressure of the water, and manner of the remaining sections were not far behind. When it was rediscovered by a band of daring archaeologists led by then Baron of Atterock, Andreas the Wise, it was lucky indeed that the major battle occurred just outside the Eternity Chamber, the most defended and fortified region of the whole structure - otherwise none of them may have been left to tell the tale.

Structure
The Ocean Palace was constructed out of a series of underwater domes; connected by tunnels with multiple airlocks. Four large domes spread around the structure made up the bulk of its living space, but countless smaller domes connected and expanded beyond these. From generators to hydroponics; water reclamation to research lab (for deep pressure analysis) the restored and upgraded Ocean Palace became the pinnacle of Kildarian defence. While minor reconstruction work was completed under Andreas the Wise, the Ocean Palace was not properly restored until Magroth Industries took it over. Through their work 95% of the Palace was restored and 98% of the Palace was rendered usable - only a few outlying domes were left, deemed too far gone to restore were left alone, covered in millenia of algae and permanently sealed off from the rest of the base.

Any one dome could be closed off from all the others at any given time - a much needed defences against flooding. The palace had come equipped with it's own generators - several plants were located around the structure, as well as a backup generator in every dome. Some had failed, in the millennia that it had gone untended; and had been replaced with nuclear generators by the Magroth Industries upgrade. Others had only needed a small amount of maintenance to remain fully operational. Between them, they powered all the airlocks, lights, life support systems, oxygen reclamation (taken from the surrounding lakewater) and hydrogen reclamation (used to power the Jasonian generators). Once, they had been managed by robots, who had tended the base during the millennia. Now, they were tended by an array of technicians who remained committed to the preservation of the Ocean Palace no matter who held the keys.

The centre dome in the structure was the largest by far. It contained within it a vast central chamber, almost a kilometre wide and several hundred metres long. Originally, it had been built to house an Omen; but though there was room to construct one there, underwater, none had ever graced the Ocean Palace with their presence. The Islands had fallen before that could occur. But the room was not without it's uses. The final battle between GLAM and the forces of Gralus took place within it.

History within Shireroth
While Baron, Andreas the Wise held the keys to the Ocean Palace, as its principle re-discoverer. After his departure the keys passed to the Dutch of Kildare; who later entrusted them to Al'Magroth when he was granted the defence contract of Kildare by the Saenad.
Magroth Industries expertly restored and upgraded the Ocean Palace, returning it to its former glory before Al'Magroth chose it as the base of his terrible but brief reign over Shireroth and Gralus. After the defeat of Al'Magroth, the keys to the Ocean Palace were returned to the new Baron of Atterock, the melangian Cla'Udi, with the intention that they would remain in the keeping of the Barons thereafter.
With the decline of the Barony of Atterock (though then it was a Thanedom, not Barony), the keys remained with the melangian Cla'Udi, to be kept by the Counts of Melangia for as long as they desired that historical privilege.

Rediscovery
The full story of it's rediscovery is kept in the Great Library of MANA, Novatainia, Gralus.

A time-locked version of the original is located here.

Geography and Beginnings
Atterock was a barony located along the four eastern coastal regions of Kildare, all split from any Shirithian mainland, and the county of Old Hallucination, as one of the oldest magic regions of the duchy. It was founded 3030 ASC, after much negotiation between it's Baron, Andreas the Wise, other Kildarian Baroness, Hypatias Mom, and the Yardistani's, who mainted for a long time that the island of Melangia was theirs. There was also much debate about it's name, as the barony was an entirely new one. The final name was settled on as a combination of Attera and Blackrock, two other Kildarian counties, both not within the Barony, and seized on as "rather cool" by it's Baron, and as a finally non-disputed name by it's Duke.

History
After its founding, a history was rapidly evolved to fit the somewhat older counties into the new barony in the way the baron desired. The easiest solution to this was declaring that a great plague engulfed it, and plunged it into a Dark Age for the next thousand years until the new Baron arrived, allowing deviations from previous meagre establishments of the baronies. The only exception was the already well developed Old Hallucination, which merely became largely overgrown.

Counties
The leaders of the counties are most vividly invoked when they were summoned to a meeting by Baron Andreas the Wise, in regards to the Gong Li Rebellion.
Melangia
The capital of the Barony and an island with a long and varied history, Melangia was taken over by Andreas and redesigned into a county to suit his interests, which included magic, history, and his own race with a ' in the name.
Current Count: Andreas the Wie

Norfolk
An older county with ties to old Antica, Norfolk was established by the baron as a county taken over by pirates during the Dark Ages. It was soon taken over by Nick Foghorn Leghorn, whose county it had once been, on his return to Shireroth.

Raynor Isles
Appearing to be an undeveloped county, Raynor Isles was taken on by the Baron as an honourary second county, and the two cities, Biotopia and Libertopia, evolved into an ongoing feud between the county's residents between the supporters of magic and the supporters of technology.

Gong Li
Originally a polynesian themed county, Gong Li was developed to maintain this island theme while adding the magic elements of a more persian area, including a Sultan, genies and magic carpets. Sinbad the Sailor is the closest real world allusion.

Old Hallucination
A county with a long history of development, Old Hallucination was left intact when it joined the Barony, but with a lot more trees ...
}}
Melangia was the leading county of the Barony of Atterock and the private county of Andreas the Wise for all his time in Shireroth. After he left, the Melangian Cla'Udi took over as Count, and has been count ever since.

History
Inhabitance of the island dates back to the coming of Sakat early in time, and his creation of the first Mel'anje. Since then they have served him as priests and historians, including predicting the plague that swept Kildare, and ensuring much of the history was preserved within their libraries.

The Mel'anje People
They are quite comfortable in the water, swimming and diving around. They're shorter than normal humans, and often look a bit like they're sneaking. They have a great respect for seers, having produced a number themselves, and especially like divination from looking at clouds. They're also good with history and knowledge and so on. They produce the best historians.

Temple to Sakat
Sakat, Squid god of Time, and patron god of historians, has his temple in Melangia. In it are kept many sacred and historical scrolls, and the sacred ink. The current high priest is Andreas the Wise.

Cloud Divining
Nobody knows quite when the principal of Cloud-Divining started on Melangia. It just appears to be something that 'was always there'. A pre-eminent Gralan-Atterockian Historian mused that the Mel'anje people were created around the time the Etruri, some Gralan mortals with god like powers, were at the height of their power. The Etruri were known to have communicated to their followers with lightning. And they were known to have been active on the Kendall Isles, so close to Melangia. Who is to say they didn't also communicate with clouds, and the Melangians learnt to read it.

But that time was long since past, and what may once have been a practical method to read the emotions of god-like people had long since become an artform that the most devout Melangians all swore by. There was, apparently, no end to what could be read in the clouds - in their shape, form, thickness ... and in the colours they formed at sunset.

Anyone familiar with chaos theory, and the idea that a butterfly flapping its wings in Toketi New Shirlan could cause a storm in Magna Novatainia would feel comfortable with much of what he talked about - clouds picking up disturbances in the weather patterns, air currents etc, which would allow a Cloud-Diviner to predict the weather several days ahead, and up to a few hundred kilometres away. They might shy away from his other comments though. He talked about the weather influencing people's moods (which was obvious), but also about people's moods influencing the weather. He talked about different emotions producing subtly different pheremones and gas structures into the air, which, in large enough volumes, would be reflected in the particular shape of the borders of clouds. He talked about reading pollutants in the air, or an increase in the number of cows, or even that he could predict a war, by the shapes the clouds formed when much gunpowder was in the air from increased training exercises.

The Atterock
A huge stone fell from the sky in the twelth year of the Reign of Raynor XI. It was named the Atterock, and revered by locals. Eventually it was discovered to have been from a satellite exploded by Locke, under the influence of the Remnant, in an attempt to recreate the Eve of Destruction.

Melangian Naming Conventions
Melangian Naming Convention 101:<br />
There must be a ' after the third letter in the word.<br />

Melangian Naming Convention 102:<br />
There do exist further subtleties beyond a '. For example, it's thoroughly innapropriate to name someone Xxx'wassisnameIdunnohowlongthisthingisgonnagobutitstoolong.<br />
The subtleties, as currently known, are:<br />
There will only be three or four letters after the '.<br />
The first letter of the name cannot be a vowel (preferably there is only one vowel in the first three letters, though two in the second is appropriate).<br />
Significant names include parts (or a variation thereof) of Melangia or Sakat (as in Mel'Kat).<br />
Melangian naming is quite similiar to Hau'Oli naming (though it tends to use more vowels) but is not, despite the ', bearing any relation to Micron naming.<br />
The ' indicates a slight pause, nothing more.

Prominent Citizens
Mel'Kat - Commander of the Atterockian Navy, and veteran of the Bosworth War, the Kildarian Civil War (aka the Gong Li Rebellion and various others.
Cla'Udi - Chief Cloud Diviner of the Melangians, and one of their most respected elders.
Ramus the Farsighted - A great seer of the Melangian people, and the seer who foretold From the North.
Andreas the Wise - High Priest of Sakat and Baron of Atterock.
Many had thought the Line of Fenrir had perished in b1083 when its last ruling Kaiser, Daniel II, was assassinated. He had no known heir, for he had never married. But in his youth, Daniel II had been a lover of Milharna, one of the daughters of Emperor Milharo of Audentior, when military ventures off the coast of modern day Kildare had been undergoing. He had hoped to marry but Emperor Milharo viewed Shireroth as little more than a backwater province at the time, and she knew her father would never agree. So they were forced to part, and never saw one another again. But Daniel II had left Milharna with more than he had expected - a child, a son called Milrod. Milharna and her son never took the throne of Audentior - her older brother did - but she lived quietly in Airosamente the rest of her life - the lot of unmarried mothers was not good in those days, but her elder brother made sure she was looked after. The son, Milrod, ventured to Shireroth to search for his father. The adventures he and his line had are too long to recount here, but the line that eventually produced Rei I was named Milharna, after his foremother.
Imperial Bloodline

Andreas the wise: /* The Major Bloodlines */

The Imperial Bloodlines are semi-fictional constructs relating to the
Kaisership of Shireroth, serving as both a convenient shorthand for the true identity of a Kaiser, and as a fictional blood connection to all the other Kaisers.

Each bloodline represents a lineage of Kaisers, supposedly descended from Kaiser Raynor I, the mythical founder of Shireroth.

Origins and Use of the Bloodlines
According to the Fictional History, the founder of Shireroth and the first Kaiser, Raynor I, had three children.

The first was a daughter, and the other two were sons.

At the time of his death, succession by females was not allowed, and so the elder brother became Kaiser as Brrapa I.

However, this apparently did not prevent descendants of Raynor's daughter, or of his other son, from being eligible for the Kaisership, because after the death of Brrapa's son Erik I, the Kaisership was passed to a descendant of Raynor's daughter.

Each of Raynor's children was the progenitor of one of the Bloodlines, and these in turn branched off into yet other Bloodlines.

It seems likely that any of the descendants of Raynor I must belong to an Imperial Bloodline, documented or not, and would thus theoretically be eligible for the Kaisership.

This helps to explain the present real-life use of Bloodlines in the Kaisership. Because of the processes by which the Crown is passed on (see Kaiserial Succession), a relatively large number of individuals have managed to be Kaiser at one time or another, most of whom have done so several times.

Given that most Shirerithians like to at least pretend like their institutions are real, this brings up the interesting problem of individuals becoming Kaiser, reigning for a few months, leaving, then coming back later, a most un-monarchical sort of behavior.

The rationalization for this, in the context of the fictional background, is that it is not that an individual is coming back as Kaiser multiples times under different names; it is simply that the Kaisers in question are members of the same lineage!

As a result, each Kaiser becomes either a member of a pre-existing Bloodline, or begins a new one, and future Kaiserial incarnations of that individual are generally of the same lineage. As a result of this, most Bloodlines in current use can be identified with a single person, or with a specific set of people.

Individuals who are new to being Kaiser are either given a place in an older Bloodline, or found a new one. It is traditional for each Bloodline to have a set of reign names unique to it, from which Kaisers of that Bloodline will draw upon. For instance, the Line of Raynor uses only one name; all reigning members are called Raynor (e.g. Raynor I, Raynor VI,
Raynor X).

The Major Bloodlines
The following is a list of all the Major Bloodlines of Shireroth, past or present. Several of the Bloodlines are fictional (and most of them have some fictional members), having existed prior to the actual founding of Shireroth.

It should also be kept in mind that these are not the only Bloodlines; they are only Major by virtue of having produced Kaisers, but there are supposedly many minor Bloodlines, each descended from Raynor I, which are not named in any chronicle.

Theorganization of the bullets on the list reflects the descent of each Bloodline.

}}
Melangia is the leading county of the Barony of Atterock and the private county of Andreas the Wise.

Melangian Naming Convention 101:
There must be a ' after the third letter in the word.

Melangian Naming Convention 102:
There do exist further subtleties beyond a '. For example, it's thoroughly innapropriate to name someone Xxx'wassisnameIdunnohowlongthisthingisgonnagobutitstoolong.
The subtleties, as currently known, are:
There will only be three or four letters after the '.
The first letter of the name cannot be a vowel (preferably there is only one vowel in the first three letters, though two in the second is appropriate).
Significant names include parts (or a variation thereof) of Melangia or Sakat (as in Mel'Kat).
Melangian naming is quite similiar to Hau'Oli naming (though it tends to use more vowels) but is not, despite the ', bearing any relation to Micron naming.
