Ab Sectora Condita program

Most of you will know the ASC program, for those who didn't I just added a link to it.
Maybe some smart scientists (I just mean Ari or Erik) could look to it and maybe make an updated version. Maybe with the possibility to fill in the ASC-date and bring it back to the Gregorian date.

And a scrollbar could be added, so you don't need to write down the month but just can chose it from a list. :p

And on what time is it based? Greenwich, California,...? It can make a difference.

I believe Apollo Standard Time is Eastern Standard Time, though I'm not sure.

Actually, it might read the date and time from your computer...

That's what I think. Mostly because on the bottem of the page there is the following sentence: Note: make sure your computer clock is set to the correct time and date.

It was written in Java Script 7(?) years ago by Steph, a HS friend of mine at the time, and still. It uses your computers time, and I'll be damned if I know how it works.

But I wrote a new one in my head a month ago for PHP(I still need to check how to pull up date info), but doubt I'll write it any time soon.

I HATE THE AMERICAN DATE ORDER
I HATE IT SO MUCH
IT IS AN ABOMINATION TO ALL THAT IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF SENSE

Eh, it's not exactly complex. I even simplified the mathematics a bit while writing the forum-integrated version. Basically,

Code: Select all

function convertGregToASC(givenDate)
{
    return (Math.floor((givenDate - ascStartDate) / 86400000));
}
Where ascStartDate and givenDate are in terms of numbers of milliseconds since the beginning of the Unix epoch (1970-01-01). ascStartDate is, of course, 1999-08-06 (converted to milliseconds into the Unix epoch). 86400000 is the number of milliseconds in a day. That's the full extent of the math, everything else in the original script was glue code or internal results.

* suddenly realises it doesn't really make any sense to call that function convertGregToASC when it's actually independent of the choice of calendar... then shrugs and leaves it the way it is for now, because it's not breaking anything *

This is ASC. We use it when we write history (it looks more realistic if a war from 10 days become a war from 10 years ;) ) and it's also often used in decrees.

Ari, good work by the way! :thumbsup

'Someone' has used my idea while editing the wiki-page. :love
