Shireroth

To all the citizens of Shireroth-

There are plenty of holes in our history and various backstories. It would please your Kaiser oodles and oodles if you would wander the Shirewiki and either write about something that you know, or ----

Make something up. We have Kaisers of old, of which only their name seems to have come down to us. Hey, they were doing something back then.

To the other Ancient Ones among us, please lend a hand to those that stumble. And if someone invents something that you KNOW DARN WELL DIDN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY, then correct it, or help fold the new material into the fabric of our history.

Friendly foreigners, especially erstwhile Shirirthians, might also be encouragred to participate. Who knows, they might stay.

We will all be enriched by this.

Kildare would love anything on the actual Shirithian part of our history .... it peters out when Jasonia does and doesn't appear again until I got here ... assumedly Fax did something over those couple years ...

But Kildare's history differs a lot of Shirerithian history. We were always very isolated.

You are already doing a lot. Please continue to load it to the wiki when you are able, (as you seem to have been already!)

You know I wrote about a dozen articles on the various old micronations and stuff for the old ShireWiki. Then it crashed and all was lost.

I don't feel all that inclined to make the investment again unless I know there's better back-up security.

One example: I have six years of micronational flags from every country that applied to the MCS in my archives.

Still waiting on Erik to set up SSH access at shireroth.org for that (and also update his payment info, apparently). I'll cronify us automatic weekly backups of the wiki database as soon as I get that.

I'd be quite happy to put the bulk of my archives online for everyone's perusal. Just so long as I know someone is backing it up.


My only other gripe is that the information is disjointed having contributions split between here, Microwiki, and the dozen or so other micronation-specific wikis out there (like Katyushawiki).

That is problematic, true. ShireWiki's scope is Shirithian affairs though we have a lot of articles left over from when it was wider. Perhaps we should try cleaning up and compressing the MicroWiki articles on Shireroth into low-maintenance forms with links to the appropriate articles on ShireWiki, so Shirithian affairs only need to be updated into one wiki?

I don't even bother with Microwiki (or Micras wiki) anymore, and just put the info on the Gralan wiki ...

I've got a ton of Cyberian stuff on there that could go somewhere else. Most of it is copied to MNN and the wikia-microwiki (left over from times when I had to hide it from certain folks). The main article is on the Portugese wiki, but the translation probably stinks.

Somewhat un-beneficially, everyone seems to be moving away from building websites for their micronations in lieu of wikis.

Perhaps we should try cleaning up and compressing the MicroWiki articles on Shireroth into low-maintenance forms with links to the appropriate articles on ShireWiki, so Shirithian affairs only need to be updated into one wiki?

I think I would go mad if this happened. Liam (from MN.net) has worked extremely hard on the microwiki including Shireroth's entries. If you just deleted them all and linked then back to the Shirewiki, not only would it be a huge slap in the face to him, it would also be extremely selfish and arrogant. If you don't like the Mn.net fine. No one is forcing you to go, but to undo your own and other people's work? Not on.

Well, that's largely because I can edit the wiki but not the website ....

More seriously, I just thought we needed one with all our magic stuff. Now, if we can actually get some of it off the forum and onto the wiki, it'll look rather impressive (bit like the Soloralwiki, our legacy after we leave ...)
