I'm evil aren't I?

Ok so yesterday Corey, Lectriece, Noemi, and I went to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire! Corey kept saying how he wanted to get a saber or at least some type of sword. So we went to the Pirate Ship (where they have the widest variety of swords) and one of the salesmen latched onto us. He showed us some sabers that were way out of Corey's price range even with the money I was contributing for his birthday (which is on Monday). So the salesman tries to show us some other stuff and finally he shows Corey this knife, a Kukri and Corey seems to like it but he is still kinda hesitating 'cause of the price and how his parents will yell at him and such. The Salesman is still trying to sell it to him and to be honest I was as bad as the salesman in pressuring Corey into getting it and adamant about paying for at least some of the price. Corey called me "difficult" but in the end he got the kukri and seemed quite happy with it ^_^
Now that's not the most evil thing that I did that day. We went to go see a Canadian band called the Tartan Terrors for their "anything goes" show. Now during the preshow they asked who had never seen a Tartan Terror's show before. So I raised Corey's hand for him ('cause I knew he wouldn't for himself XD) and just his luck they start picking on him. They ask him where he's from (Pete, the midget, was happy because our town has a Red Robin XD) and then they beckon him up on stage. Lectriece, Noemi, and I had to drag Corey up there. When he got up on stage they gave him the "Scottish Square" to play. They had him sit down again and let him have the square for the rest of the show. Of course Corey wouldn't play the square on his own. So I took his hands and played it for him. I wasn't very good but hey I didn't actually have the square in my hands and I wasn't looking half the time XD. Afterwards we went up to give the triangle back and I made him take a picture with some of the band members.
I also got video of Corey up on stage.

I've heard of more evil things girfriends have done to humiiate their boyfriends. And, is that you on the left, or is that young lady part of the band? I always wonder what different Shirerithians look like. It's never the way I picture them. Thanks, Gilrean! And, yes, Ren-Faires are really popular out here as well. My daughter and her husband are in one of the guilds at the one at Golden Gate Park this weekend. Sounds like you four had a good time there.

The girl in the picure is not Gilrean, but is indeed one of the band members.
And I ended up showing my kukri to my parents AND I DIDN'T DIE!
It was fun, I'll admit.

Corey--Parents usually are pretty cool about their almost-adult children's hobbies if they don't seem harmful. I'm glad yours were ok with the knife.
Mike--Your city is quite beautiful!! I wondered how it looked. Everything is a lot greener than here in California in the summer.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't really see attending Renaissance Faires as harmfrul. And an occasional souvenir shouldn't raise hackles.

Well yeah, but we all wish you were our mom and Shireroth was one big happy family. Alas, we all have our own families, and each and every parent seems enthusiastically crazy and mean.

Meh, I just do whatever. They get over it. They'll eventually start trusting me when I don't mess up like they think I will.
"You'll cut yourself! o.0"
*runs edge over palm* "It's blunt! I own enough sharp weapons which can hurt me much more!"
But really, as long as I don't go bankrupt buying a weapon, my parents are generally ok with it now (I'll assume), since I own a nice collection as is and I'm a trained swordsman anyway.

I never had any issues with my parents, I was given a wide birth and lots of freedoms. To be fair I never majorly screwed up. And as long as I didn't screw up, I could mostly do as I pleased.

Wow, Gilrean. That's great.

Not very evil though.
Corey, you gotta show me that kukri sometime; it sounds nice. Sadly, my parents won't let me buy one of my own from the Ren-Faire...

yes prodigy you must come with us next time! And to get a sword of knife or anything sharp and shiny you'd have to be 18 or have someone 18 buy it for you. Is dah rule.

Aye, Prodigy, you must come to the next one. Maybe then I'll have enough money to buy a corset! XD Ok... probably not... they're expensive as heck... and I probably wouldn't be able to get one that I like in my size... (I'm tiny and the Duelists mistook me as a child ^_^; even if I was some what snuggling with Lectriece... it was hot out then... in the sun... and lots of innuendos XD )
I also got a tail. X3 Mine's white... Gilrean's is a different color. One man asked her how fast the raccoon was running to get stuck there. XD
Oh... and what is beyond me is how Gil was able to get Corey on camera with out getting Lectriece and I as well... (he walked right past us) Oh... wait... she got Lectriece's hand. XD

I think a lot of my feelings of permissible activities changed when my children both demonstrated they were trust-worthy, and also of age. They are now both married, and 23 and 30, and living independently with their respective spouses. Someone under 18 is still required to behave in a much more circumscribed manner. And someone who is used to behaving irresponsibly will have privileges withdrawn until trust is regained. Don't think I was a pushover as a mom. I tried to be reasonable, and to always be available to discuss whatever was a concern, as long as it was done with respect, and I tried to remain vulnerable, apologizing when I realized I had been wrong about something. Even becoming a driver was not allowed until we could trust our children to behave responsibly behind the wheel. But when something was absolutely forbidden the consequences could be dire, but they were expected, if unpleasant.
Every parent has to impose the limits that seem logical, reasonable and necessary to them. Few parents agree in all details. It is important, though, that parents agree together about discipline, limits, benchmarks of progress, and consequences for willful disobedience or bad behavior. As long as children understand the rules, and what can be reasonably expected for growth in maturity and understanding, they are better able to abide by parents' imposed limits.
Please don't use me and my present chlldless house as an example to hit your parents over the head and tell them, "Why aren't you like that?" My current state is a far distance from my parenting style when they were much younger.

heh my parents have totally let me have almost complete freedom when I got my license. (of course i got my license AFTER I turned 18 >_<) but even before my parents didn't care where I went so long as I had a ride and my own money. Now it's just so long as I tell them where I'm gonna sleep and whether or not I'll be there for dinner.

Mmm and this month my parents have been pretty lenient. I've... what, been with Gil each weekend this month? Then rode the bus into another town on my own for three weeks on my own... of course... that was for a class... but still.

In 6th grade my dad made me start bike riding to school, unless it was raining. This continued till I was 16.
By 8th grade I was traveling the town by bus and bike. I had a radius of almost 10 miles from home.
By 14-15 I was expanding my radius to 30 miles from home by bike, bus and rail.
by 16 I had a car(truck). and was driving said 30 miles and back every weekend, often not getting home till 1am. Cause I would leave from my gf's at midnight. Sometimes even later if there was a dance I went to. Further I was allowed to go on trips with others out of town with little to no restriction.
by 17 I had expanded my radius to 100miles and several days. On visits to Sonoma.
At 18 I was a freshmen in college and thus attained total freedom.
At 24 I'm about to graduate, I have a job and will soon have independence... I'm scared.
