Greetings to Our Great Neighbors!

Name of your nation: The Kingdom of Tellia

Preferred means to contact the representative: MSN - chriswcollins@hotmail.com AIM - christheauthor

Nation's website address: www.kingdomoftellia.org

Nation's message board address: http://telliaforums.proboards45.com/index.cgi

Please describe in a few words your nation's character and culture: Tellia is a nation that combines two cultures that fuse nicely. Loosely based on the Vatican, Tellia combines Christian and Italian cultures. The Province of Eddis has a rich Roman culture.

Please describe in a few words (the highlights of) your nation's history so far: Tellia was founded in November, 2007. In April, Tellia merged with Vanderveer. Within a month or so the nation was dissolved and Tellia was independent once more, with a new culture to match.

How did you hear about Shireroth? Who hasn't heard of this great nation?

I would like to begin formal relations with Shireroth...Would it be alright if I pass your standard treaty along to the Grand Council for approval?

Thank you,
Christopher Rex

Has the business with the communists been resolved? If not I am sure that some form of generous assistance could be arranged.

Alas, the Communist threat continues to expand. Shirerithian assistance would be greatly appreciated.

(This is all arranged but I am not sure what direction it will take right now. Perhaps Shirerithian Peacekeepers could come visit Tellia...A recwar could happen in the future...Whatever you guys would be interested in doing.)

Your Highness (Eminence? Grace? How should I address you?),

Welcome to Shireroth! Thank you for filling out the form, few people do anymore. I'll get on that treaty tomorrow (It's kinda late here).

If you could brief me on the situation at present (via PM or whatever) we could tailor the most appropriate response to fit your circumstances as far as the scenario is concerned.

I long for the day where there was a real micronational communist threat. Good luck in your endeavours though.

Lord Duke & Khan,

I believe it's my duty to inform you of the circular argument this entails. First off, regardless of whether certain people like it or not, Babkha is a close ally with all of its ties etc...

Tellia is in fact a close ally with Babkha, and I'm certain it will be a close ally of Shireroth as well, however there is a small problem. The issue stems from the communists themselves and our other good ally in Will Tomsett. Will, aka Dara Hamid, founder of the INS (Babkha's choice in news) happens to also be a Babkhan. Tellia, (as I mentioned) is a close ally of Babkha, and some of its citizens are also Babkhan. As a result, Shireroth is placed in a very difficult position regarding this issue.

Perhaps our best stance would be as a vessel of conflict resolution?

Yes, it is rather confusing. In Tellia, Will is against the communist threat...But in Katyusha...he is a communist. And then he is a citizen of Babkha...So I am unsure what might be the best course of action for either nation in this situation.

Hesam, all we need is a clear separation of roles. (after all, we all know macronationally that Will set up Katayusha). Will the Adraisian (which Shireroth has no contact with, I think) is the creator of the INS and anti-communist. Will the Tellian is also anti-communist. Will the Katayushan is obviously pro-communist (and has no contact with Shireroth). And Will the Babkhan is probably whatever Ardy tells him to be.

Guido is on Tellia purely to engineer the Communist side of the scenario, so can be safely kept out of calculations.

Shireroth's role is clear - both because of Tellia's own merit, and because of their close friendship with Babkha, they deserve an alliance with Shireroth. Will's role in various countries shouldn't complicate things.

Your Majesty,

As Kaiser of this Empire, I welcome you to Shireroth! May you enjoy your stay here. I would like to invite you to stay at the Imperial Palace in Shirekeep while you are here -- you do need somewhere to stay -- as we don't often get such esteemed guests as yourself. I have followed your work for a long time and I am pleased with the results. Tellia and Shireroth are to be friends, that is my will. We are to be friends, you and I, as Cousins in this world of excellence.

Ayreon
Kaiser of Shireroth

Dearest Royal Cousin,

I believe that you are correct, our relationship shall flourish...I gladly accept your offer to stay in the Imperial Palace, and I would like to invite you to visit Tellia with me sometime in the near future. The Tellian people, just over the border, are great 'fans' if you will of Shireroth and I would expect them to line the streets to greet you.

I thank you for your welcome.

Most of them were toddlers or so when the Iron Curtain fell. They never lived with the constant threat of MAD--Mutually Assured Destruction, or bomb shelters in the back yard, or the entire eastern part of Europe under the Bear's paw The communism they crow over bears no relation to the real thing.

Your Majesty,

I was looking through the original Toketi forums (when we were known as Tokidoki), and I came upon an account named "KingChristopherI" from late 2006/early 2007. Would this be you?

My apologies about that treaty, I'm trying to get married. :thumbsup

Carol, perhaps you can take solace in the fact that you experienced that fear on the free side of the Iron Curtain. At least you only lived in fear of Communism and death, while they lived in fear of death but under Communism.

And you can be sure that we little kids of the 50's were glad we weren't under the "Red Menace." We heard a lot about the possibility of nuclear destruction from the skies, and all of us took it seriously. That is why we felt it necessary to have all those missiles to counteract theirs (MAD--Mutually Assured Destruction was a government policy); we had air raid practices at school; and many people (including one uncle) built and stocked bomb shelters in their back yards. I am very grateful the threat was unrealized. Now we just have to worry about North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, Israel, Russia (much material disappeared, plus suitcase nucs), and any other nuclear countries and random terrorists. I feel sooo much safer now.....

It's amusing to look back, knowing at the height of the Cold War the USSR only had a fraction of the operational nukes the west thought it did, and most of those were shoddily designed and wouldn't have made it off the launch pad. In any nuclear exchange the US would've secured a comfortable victory (if you can call the loss of a one or two entire cities "comfortable"). But good old N.S. Khrushchev was such a convincing bullshitter he had the NATO countries cowering in fear (which then backfired when the same irrational fear was used under Reagan to assemble what was arguably the most powerful single military force in human history)

Krasniy, may I ask which decade you were in grade school? This country's attitude toward Communism changed as the decades advanced, and the country which had been an ally of convenience during World War II, became a bitter rival and international threat. If you were not alive then you would have trouble appreciating the visceral fear and loathing felt for this system and for the threat it posed to the free world. Whether the nucs were as formidable as advertised, the intentions behind them definitely were. Being able to provide a deterrent to the use of these horrid weapons was the main reason for us to have them them here and in Europe, and also provided a defensive mechanism.

I'm not debating the level of fear that existed at the time, just the level at which it was justified. Of course with hindsight being 20/20 and all, it's easy to poke fun at those who were there. I don't blame your generation for being so petrified... the US was a similar condition in the 50s to that of the USSR in the 30s... Senator McCarthy and the HCUAA bears a striking resemblance to the Moscow Show Trials of 1937/38... the only difference being that McCarthy's victims were blacklisted rather than shot. On both sides the fear far outweighed the reality.

That is almost always the case. However, that does not negate the fact that serious times do deserve serious people's constant vigilance. If, from our perspective, we can now look back and see the foolishness and misguidedness of many attempts to keep the free world free, it does not change the fact that, at least to most of the people at that time, this was a true enemy which needed to be countered at all turns. Just because it is later revealed that the bluster and show are mostly merely that, they put up a good enough bluff that most in the west bought into it and planned for that level of threat. And, seriously, had you also believed in this level of danger to all you held dear, wouldn't you have wanted your county's leaders to plan accordingly?

No nukes in anger since 1945, and yet victory for the righteous, (or at least the less wrongteous) thank God!

However inept the Soviets may have been in the end, what the two-bit thugs that make up the oppostion today could do is nothing compared to the loss of even one megapolis.
