Deep roots are not reached by the frost

As the assorted nobles of Shireroth chat around the Landsraad Front Gate, a young man rides up upon an old, wheezing horse. His hair is unkempt, his face is caked with dirt, and he carries a big pack, ripped in several places and threatening to rip in others. As he makes it to the Gate, the poor, much-abused horse finally falls over dead. The traveller is thrown against the ground, and the onlookers worry at first he has joined his late horse in oblivion. But after a few seconds he gets up, snorts, and brushes himself off. Then he seems to notice for the first time where he is.
Oh! All of you again! It's been a while, hasn't it! Andreas! I swear you've grown two inches in the past four months! And Khan, where did you get that haircut? It really brings out the warlord in you. Oh, Jonas! How are things in Kildare these days? And Scott, I saw your family a while back, they send their love. Prodigy, that diamondoid cybernetic armour looks stunning on you. Ah, Oroigawa-san, I don't believe we've met. Dozo yoroshiku. Ooh, and you simply must introduce me to your lady-friend there. Icebreaker, your sentences are looking especially capitalized today. Have you been practicing? Hypatia's Mom, you simply must - Oh. Don't worry about the horse. He lived a good life, but you know how it goes. May he be reborn as that noblest of creatures - a Brookshirean! Meanwhile, I could really do with a glass of wine about now.
Ah, yes. My situation. I have a computer again! It feels marvelous. I'm not quite recuperated yet; you know how it is the first few days, as soon as you install one program another one stops working. No doubt I'll be popping in and out again for a while. And I'm still downloading, ah, legitimately buying from our beloved content providers, some of my flashier programs. But I can visit Shireroth again! That's something, isn't it?
I'm still going through the archives, trying to figure out what's going on. I just realized that Kaiser Ayreon I is the same Andelarion I talked to on AIM all those months ago - imagine that! I've got a lot to do, I know. I owe Gralus a map, Erik a just and prosperous reign as Duke of Brookshire, and Andreas a refutation of his religion
. And I will get all that done - someday. For now I will try to make sense out of everything. Perhaps if someone would summarize the last four months it would be easier for me. And wine! Someone bring me wine! I've just ridden six hundred leagues through stress and storm and the very forces of Balgurd themselves, and no one has a glass of wine for the Duke of Brookshire?! For shame!
