Ric's moral issues.

But I want to keep my honour and my promise to Hasan to succeed him and lead this empire. At the same time my heart feels guilt for broken promises on the other hand, and for the moral circumstances around this. I am so torn, I don't want to do. But I will not make a decision until after the weekend, seeing how things turn out.
Let us consider a piece of property. The owner (rough analog to the late Kaiser) wills it to you on his "death".

However, the owner did not have clear title to the property. There was a Mortgage (arrangement with me and the Gods) that was not satisfied. The Owner was living on the property, controlling it, mowing the grass and all. The mortgage is for the whole property, so when the late Kaiser willed it to you, you may have a piece of paper, but the Mortgage has not been satisfied. He had no equity to pass on to you.

So as I see it, you must satisfy the Mortgage, or surrender the property to the mortgage holder. (Me.)

Your promise to the deceased is a claim that must stand at the back of the line.

Hasan's acceptance of the arrangement whereby he became Kaiser was made long prior to his misnumbered Decree. Therefore, I have prior claim on the estate as well as "hold the mortgage".

Hasan has admitted to the arrangement, as has the Emissary of the Gods. If this is arrangement is not satified, then neither "Kaiser" can reign in peace.

The law states that the Kaiser is supreme, only subject to the Charter. The decree issued by Kaiser Hasan I, how disloyal it might be, did not violate the Charter and was therefore legal. With that follows that the contents of the decree are legal and Kaiser Ayreon the lawful Kaiser and any agreement saying otherwise thereby null and void in the eyes of the law.

Let's say you buy a house, but your local priest says that it is God's will that you donate it to someone else when you're done instead of selling it for a profit. You're an evil Babkhan, so you tell him "okay" to shut him up, even though you hate the Church and are planning to use the house for Satanic rituals later. Then you sell the house to someone else, murder the priest, and go off to drink absinthe and/or Treesian Red.

Should the guy you sold the house to be forced to give it up?

(being in Israel must be doing something to me; this whole conversation sounds like rabbis discussing a midrash)

Essentially he got life-tenancy of the house on the promise to turn it over to the other claimant at the end of his tenure.

We had a deal........Bust the deal - face the wheel.

Oh. that's right. He's already dead.

Except that "deal" was not legally binding. you could sue the dead Kaisers Corpse, his erb are still in the household account.

But Scott's analogy is correct. Mostly because its hilarious, but I suppose also because its logically sound.

I like nothing more than a shoddy, overstretched metaphor. :fish

Overstretched Metaphor? As in the way your avatar is a metaphor for the collective works of Robert Frost? :D
