It's not really a sad day for us, that only comes on the 3rd of September which is the anniversary of us being forced by a coalition of our European enemies to acknowledge the pretensions of that rabble jumped up and damned ungrateful colonials.

Actual conversation I partook in this morning:
(unnamed dimwit) "Hey it's July the 4th today"

(me) "So?"

"It's Independence Day!"

"And?"

"Well, it's a celebration isn't it?"

"Not for us it isn't"

"Eh?"

"Well..... we lost"

"Oh yeah"
*facepalm*

Happy 4th, you callous disposers of perfectly good boxed tea, you....

Not all North American colonies committed treason most heinous. Some of us realized that civilization must prevail, and to get the point across, we burned down the rebel peasants favorite mud hut.

Image

Thus depicted, the Union Flag (proper, not pretender) was once again raised over that most ungodly colony, where it fluttered above the flames of yankee folly, So goes that anniversary, 24th of August

This is why every 24th of August, Canadians will greet an American with the call:

"That was for the sacking of York you treasonous Sons of Bitches!"

Edit:

Oh, and I just found this, which is the greatest thing ever produced on Youtube:

But let's face facts, a larger Canada would not have been able to save Britain from the Nazis. :)
........until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

Mike Fors! Welcome!

Well I don't know about that - British North America could have begun sending war materials and troops in significant numbers before December 1941 and without the burdens of lend lease.

True, if it had been alllowed to develope industrially at the same rate that it actually did.

Of course the other discussion we've had is that a

British Empire+USA= tiny little frightened Germany, especially if the Empire had not given up Hanover.

I offer Victoria,by the Grace of God Queen of Britain,
(etc.)Emperess of India and Germany, Defender of the Faith

Wouldn't that have involved beating seven shades of shit out of Hanover to convince them to drop Salic law... not that that wouldn't have been fun, but still... :evil

Fun, yes........ As much fun as making Prussia roll over and sit up.
A Germany terrified of France and Russia turns to the House of Hanover.....

What principality did Prince Albert come from?

Saxe-Coburg Gotha IIRC

Let me just check that.

Edit: A quick check and it is err... 'complicated' let us just say he was from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha which after 1918 was divided between Bavaria and Thuringia.

Still say the Windsors speak German when no one is looking.

But British North America (Commonly known as Canada since 1867), Was able to mobilize a far greater percentage of its population than what was expected. And unlike some neighbours of ours, we decided Fascist was evil from the start instead of 3 years in. :p Of course, we didn't have the Prescott's to deal with...

Well, Happy 4th of July anyway, guys, and to those of my relatives who decided to go north to Nova Scotia instead of fight for our independence, I hope things are going well for you as well. Surprisingly, it was a friend from a country in northen Europe who greeted me this morning with a "Happy 4th of July" while I was still just waking up. Apparently, that date is not lost on others who wish our country well. And to you Brits, thanks for our country. We like it. And the rebuilt White House is just fine, thanks.

Not to worry we can always burn it down again if you get bored with how it looks at the moment.

If Barack "Three Marlboros a Day" Obama gets in, one dropped cigarette butt in the Oval Office waste paper basket might just save us a job ;)

Oh god, he's not pretending to smoke in order to be more in touch with the "average American" now is he?

No, he really smokes. The average American doesn't. He needs to hide it from his nanny-government-we-are-going-to-tell-everyone-how-to-live supporters.

I'd think more of him if he'd just light up (where it's legal) and tell them where to get off.

Hmmm, a President in a confrontation with EEVILL in the midst of a nicotine fit..........

Well, he says he is trying to quit. Frankly, I would worry about a president undergoing nicotine withdrawal.
