Ardashir, I think you mentioned you might come to the US this summer.
If you could time that for late July, I could try to make it to San Francisco around this time. That would give us me, you, Erik, Hypatia's Mom, maaaaybe H4773R, maaaayyybe other people who could make it, and then we could up the count by temporarily annexing Stephen K, Hypatia, Mike, maybe even Nick the Yardistani if we got lucky.
And then a few of us can, if Erik and President Baugh are willing, make the Molossia trip previously alluded to.
Annnnny chance this could work?

I'm certainly up for that. I'm sure Mike and Renee would be interested as well, also perhaps Pandora and Hypatia's brother. Just let us know when and where in SF. Have a safe trip home.

My only problem is that I am a bit shorter on cash now than I was back in Spring... my next dose of unearned capital is in April, if I can't make it across this year would anyone be up for meeting then?

I have fridays and saturdays off. I'm sure I could acquire Nick, assuming he cared enough.

The wind blows the wrong way. You either need a motor, or go around the world.

From Belgium to the USA isn't very cheap, so I don't think I will be there.

Sorry, but it would cost you less than it would cost us to travel to Belgium. The exchange rate has not been this favorable for Europeans in many years.

That doesn't mean it's free. And it isn't very cheap either.

I am well aware of that. We went to Belgium in 1983, when the exchange rate favored the US. It was relatively inexpensive. Today, the cost would be prohibitive. Many people are now choosing to vacation here because things cost less for them than in their own countries. Just a thought.

Scarily enough, I actually will be driving around California in late July...
Hrmmm.

I'm not coming if it's just going to be Erik, Carol, and me. Three people does not a convention make. But if we can work something out with Icebreaker, maybe.

Maybe if I needed a vacation...but it's still a long ways and I'd easily be the youngest one there, on top of the fact that no one here knows me all that well even micronationally...

Just how old are you anyway that you're sure you'd be the youngest? Everyone is younger than I, but many are only in their late teens to early twenty's. Plan on coming if you can. Where are you located in RL? If you are in or planning to be in northern California in late July, you are welcome to join us. Renee (Hypatia) and Mike are planning to come, and perhaps Pandora (Sarah) and Hypatia's brother, Richard. I'm sure we'll have a good time. Now all we need is a place and time.

I'm a fresh young 18, milady. And I'm near Philadelphia, so a college student getting to California is almost out of the question...

With today's flight costs, it's no wonder that it is hard to travel across the country. I'm sure there will be opportunities in the future to come to California, but the timing is a bit short for this July.

Flight costs kept me from vacationing to Japan this summer. Damn oil...

Actully, maybe MAYBE! I could come...I might have money by then...

it would be funny to see me there!

The time is getting short--perhaps only 3 to 4 weeks lead-time. And I'm not sure which weekend Scott was looking at for a Shirecon '08. He would need to clarify things.

*looks up* If he comes, he'll be the youngest...easily...without a doubt...

Hell... he's even younger than me...
But really, I don't think my parents would be into me going to California alone, or even with Liam. They wouldn't even let me go into Philly with my brother for a concert because neither of them would be there... *sigh* Dammit! That's depressing! My brother went to Buffalo NY solo by the time he was 16!

They certainly wouldn't let you go with me if they knew my track record...

I think you really need to be of age before taking trips across country by yourselves. I'm sure Shireroth will have other conventions in the future. In fact, there was a mini-convention in New York last year, and one in London. Don't worry about this one. There is time.

Shirerithians live in many states and a number of countries. The country may have been founded in the San Francisco Bay Area (at Sonoma State University), but its fame has spread widely in the past 8 years.

I'm giving up on this, but Icebreaker, if you're going to be in California, tell me if and when you'll be in the Orange County area, and I'll show you around.

Everyone is younger than I,......
(Riffle, Riffle, Riffle)
this is probably the only MN I've been involved with where I haven't been the most ancient by a considerable margin.....
(Goes off to do something childlike.)
I got as far west as Wells, NV on this last trip. Reno would be quite a haul, but let me know dates if there are any.....

San Francisco is only 5 hours west of Reno. If you can make Reno, it's just a "short" hop across the Central Valley, with the reward being that lovely city. And the smoke from all the fires is now blowing east and our skies here are clear except for the summer fog.
