It could have other commercial benefits. For instance, it could be sprayed in restaurants to put diners at ease, or be used as an alternative to tear gas to calm rioters.
Blimey - they've just gone and invented Soma.

It's not quite orgyporgy, but I have a lot of trouble with socially conditioning people with drugs. sort of takes away that freedom of self-determination.

Pfft. Some of us enjoy being stubborn social lemons, thank you very much.

No kidding. If the future of humanity is socially adjusted living GAP commercials I think I'll cut my own throat giving the middle finger to Pfiezer.

We need off of this planet.
Now "Shyness" can join the other "diseases" and be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. (And analogous acts, I'm sure.)

It is possible he's just saving up for some other new gadget to reinforce his social ineptness and shyness. And I think some people use micronations and other online activities for many purposes other than was stated. Some of us use it because we can't really interact much beyond our homes because of physical rather than emotional limitations.

I think some of us (well, me anyway)......
It's an escape. My business involves a lot of face to face, smile, shake hands, small talk.
I probably miss the fantasy from olden days. Also, never having had kids, I don't have a lot of young people in my life. The perspective helps me understand some things.

But do you have a long-lasting marriage? Many couples I know who have no children have very fulfilled lives in spite of that. We were blessed to have a marriage that has lasted 35 years (this coming Sunday), and two wonderful children, now both married. I wouldn't trade this experience, but it is good to reconnect with the young in this hobby.

Yes, we had our 15th anniversary this year!
Her dad is 81, and having an issue or two, so she didn't make this trip. And the cat is 15, and not hitting on all cylinders anymore.

Congratulations to the two of you. Yes, 15 year old cats will start to fail. Renee's cat made it to 17, but he was a mental shadow of his former self. I'm sorry your wife's dad is having health problems. It is unfortunately all too common after 80.
Life is such a mix of emotions. Hang on to your loved ones. Treasure them.

"There is always soma, delicious soma, a half-gram for the half-holiday, one gram for the weekend, two grams for a trip to the gorgeous East, three for a dark eternity on the Moon..."
I have a shirt that says that.

It would be so ironic if the ones who invented this... "Shyness drug"...?... never read A Brave New World.

btw, that "shyness drug" is one that makes one feel content, warm and cozy. It really does help with the bonding process between mother and child, and is released when one is nursing a baby or thinking about her baby. I'm not really sure it would really be that useful in general use. No, it's not Soma, but it feels close. It is not easy to duplicate in the general public. The closest I can come in imagery is thinking fondly of a special person, feeling motherly toward one's child, or perhaps feeling especially tender toward one's loved partner. I don't know that it would or could function as a social lubricant. It seems to be too specific in its action to work in that way.

Didn't people just used to get drunk for this effect?

They did until it became too expensive to chug down on a frequent basis, leaving unbearable pockets of sobriety throughout the week. The horror.

Agreed it is becoming too expensive to be drunk on a social basis but thanks too Tesco's it is a perfect time to be an anti-social drunk drinking at home.

Had to look it up.

They did tests with college (male) students oh, 25 years ago. Volunteers drank multiple pitchers of beer in a social setting, the control groups drank equal amount of water in the same setting.
Both of the groups became sh*tfaced, and their reaction times were equally bad.
In parts of this country, some people refer to beer as "barley pop". I guess this stuff would qualify if it had more carbonation.
