Duchy and Barony capitals

Pawel Abrams is working on a new special political map over at the MCS. If you look at the latest version I'm sure you'll see the problem: We have neighbours and near-neighbours like Batavia, Tellia and Riponia, which are chock full of red triangles, whereas we only have a few triangles around which aren't even consistent with any level of organisation that we currently have.

Since we want the map to be pretty, how about we help this fellow out and compile a list of Duchy and Barony capitals in Shireroth (to become red triangles), and maybe other significant cities (to become black circles)?

Here's how far I've gotten in this task:

Brookshire: Brookshire Hamlet
Dolor: Cercé
K'Tzuni: Brookshire Hamlet
Solecism:
Vorpmadal: Lune Villa
Ynnraile: Avakair

Froyalan: Eliria
Opplysta Smørvirket: Glenfiddich
The Elw: Eliria
Fórntida Kærleikalanden:

Kildare: Blackrock Nua
Atterock: Sakatra
Antya: New Kajar
Lumina's Light: Nigrad

Yardistan: Novi Nigrad
The Holy Lands:
Absentia: Corrigible

Straylight: Discontinuity (not on the map)
No baronies, and even if there were the MCS refuses to show my cities anyway :knife

As you can see, I have more gaps than I have knowledge. You know what this means: Get cracking, dukes and barons! Choose yourselves some capitals, and if you can't find any good choices, build some!

(incidentally, where's the most current map of Shireroth anyway? I'm going to make a page for it at http://shireroth.org/shirewiki/Maps once I find it so I won't have to go looking for it again...)

Change Atterock to read Sakatra, since we changed the name of the city, but yes, otherwise that seems right ...

You changed Melangia's name? I wonder what Jacobus will have to say about that...

That island was mostly Ryan's originally. I think....

"Mala'anje" was the original spelling of the name of the people. As the people were split into so many groups, tribes, reserves, etc., the name has been spelled Malangie, Malange, Melanje, and others.

Time move on, people move around. I placed the title of "High King of the Mala'anje" in abeyance during the FRC. Maybe I should revive it, like "King of the Romany"? :kaiser :)

P.S. The Traditional Capital of Absentia is Corrigible, 2nd city is Jacob-la-Ville.

Officially I guess it is, I guess H4773r will resolve this issue soon, but Sileni is capital of Mar Sara, which is (sort of, almost, quite) in the Barony Absentia in Yardistan. I made Sileni capital of Mar Sara and Vorpmadal since it was the only city we had, but now H4773r has all his old Brookshirian lands it's bound to change soon. :smashy

Now the whole island is Melangia, and the city is Sakatra ... I got Jonas and Erik's permission a while back. To be honest, I'd read the island as "Melangia" for ages, and when I found out it was just the city I decided to fix that ...

I actually inherited the Barony of Lumina's Light. So far as I know, there is no fictional history written for it, nor do I know of a capital city in the Barony. I do also have the county of North Novi Dalmacjia, whose primary city is Port Nevermore. Does anyone know the source for the name Lumina's Light? And if there is/was a city there before Jupiter was Baron?

Steve formed the Barony in the Noble Contracts era. This was in 2006 so no Luminian history should have been lost to ezHack/the Void - what you see on the forum is all that there ever was. By position alone, I'd say Nigrad would make a fairly decent capital, but hey, it's your Barony...

Sounds fine to me. Thanks. I wasn't here when he formed the barony--I was in hospitals and facilities for 48 weeks during that time, with no access to the internet. I have a lot of gaps in my knowledge of Shireroth because of that.

I don't know if this figured in anybody's mind, but the phrase Lumina's light does show up.....

Allright, status report:

Baronies without a named capital: Fórntida Kærleikalanden, whose Baron (and Duke) is Harald; Antya, whose Baron (and Duke) is Jonas, and The Holy Lands of Shireroth which has no Baron but whose Duke is Jacobus.

Dukes Harald, Jonas and Jacobus, please choose capitals for these Baronies. Here, with respect, are my suggestions, do with them what you like:

Fórntida Kærleikalanden: Given the choices (both Bjorngard and Cimmeria are islands, and relatively small ones at that) I'd say it might be a good idea to have the capital in Wintergleam. I can't actually see any cities in Wintergleam on the MCS map, though... maybe it's time to build some?

Antya: If you want to respect the oldest of Apollonian traditions, you can't really go wrong with Markopolis. On the other hand, New Kajar is located closerthe ocean and IIRC the area has been inhabited for a longer time (I couldn't find the ancient UAS map right now but I'm fairly certain that the general area Markopolis is in was uninhabited during the UAS era).

The Holy Lands of Shireroth: Nordagaat might be a good idea here, really, though Novi Nigrad would do just fine.

Baronies whose capital isn't in their territory: Absentia, whose Dolphin-Baron is Benkern, and Vorpmadal, whose Baron is Hatter.

Barons Benkern and Hatter, please resolve this somehow. Here are my humble suggestions:

The territories held by Vorpmadal are the Counties of Lower Lunaris, Upper Lunaris, Ran and Elsenar. Its listed capital is Sileni, which is in Mar Sara. My suggested solution is to (re)build Lune Villa, decreed to be the capital in Decree #4 of the Second Age. The Lunarises are bare of cities on the MCS map, so it's high time they got some urbanisation love!

The only territory held by Absentia is Mar Sara. Its listed capital is Corrigible, which as far as I can tell based on brief research is located in currently unclaimed territory: In the eastern one the two islands off the northwest tip of the continent of Benacia (near the Duchy of Gascony claimed by the Kingdom of Bosworth). I'm not big on MCS expansions, but Shireroth does hold a kind of a claim to this island through Jacobus, and it would be an eminently Yardistani thing to annex the island. If this can't be done, well, there's always Sileni.

The Holy Lands of Shireroth which has no Baron but whose Duke is Jacobus.
Greg Russell is Baron of the Holy Lands, (and Count of Florencia)unless he resigned again, in which case applications will be accepted.

Novi Nigrad should be the capital.

As far as Absentia goes, I've been trying to find an old map that included Puritania. Absentia was on the mainland, New Puerto Rico (part of Madland) was on an island to the north(west?).

After review, I believe NPR was the Island to the west, and the island to the west was Absentian territory, as was the cape between Gascony and Hyfrost.

Sileni can serve as provisional capital, like Bonn was for Germany until Berlin was freed.

Who claims the other half of Mar Sara's island? Darn, now I've got to go learn things.... :document

Hm... ah, here. Here's the last map in the MCS archives with Puritania on it: http://micras.org/archives/bigworldb-v662.png (version 6.6.2 on http://micras.org/archives/ )

I can see Absentia now... I was looking for it a bit too far in the north...

Well, you can't blame a man for trying.

Let's try for that island, anyway.....

Another Thought-

Tymaria City is on the map, out in the ocean.

Respectfully, could this go to Straylight, giving it a presence on the map?

With respect, I'd rather never see Straylight on the MCS map again than stick my hand in there.

sorry, sorry, spring break, h4773r gone wild, that sort of thing . . . .(ewe, sorry for that mental image)

Barony Vorpmadal's Old/New capitol is now and once was Lune Villa within County Upper Lunaris.

amazingly enough my map is still up and easily found within the fora, even if it is gross and look as if a 3 year old went to town with the paint program.

Other cities of note are "Teldrin" - located in norther upper lunaris right on the border of the county along the Elwynn river, ALSO, "H4773r's Landing", which is also northern cities Borders Elsenar, and sits on the Easter Coast, is the Capitol of Upper Lunaris

Lower Lunaris has . . "Smotretka" on the banks of the River Elwynn right above the delta. this is its 'Capitol' as well as "Erianamor" somewhere in the eastern part i beleive, all of Krasny's pics are bye bye.

ELsenar's Capitol is "Asthemur" which is located in the west of the county above Upper Lunaris and below Ran, right in the middle of the wedge. 2 other towns of note are "Wendor" on the east coast, bout one third the way north of UL, as well as "SLotherton" which is 1/3 south of the ran border on the coast (little inlet makes a perfect bay)

In Ran, "Tyrelwynn" is little north of Teldrin on the great rivier, the capitol is "Aruam" which is north of Asthemur, almost on the border to the east, and Goldshire Hamlet, which is in the middle of the counties ocean coast, to be renamed as "Dansin-on-Moor"

that should cover it, yeah.

as far as i knew Mar-Sara is now a County within Absentia. Vorpmadal has no official power over those lands which are still Yardistani.

I was marveling at benkern's map of Shirithian baronies and realised that I missed the Barony of Solecism. Erik, care to pick a capital?
