Well, lapsing into public opinion mode, what should be our response to the Affair?

There is only one option...

If MNN won't relent, we surely have enough people to institute something like this on our own. We won't have to abide by their unreasonableness, either. And we have enough people from other micronations here to give us a look at other nations' news as well.

Hey, I think theres only one option, but no one else voted for it ... let Malarbor sort it out!

Indeed, let Malarbor sort it out.

You just don't want to boycott the MNN, Andreas...
I say let the sock puppets do their work!

There's a much simpler solution:
1. Remove or amend the posts on KZFO, MWG and AL about piracy, as these are why they've been de-listed (they're an admission of ToS violations and render MNN liable over any KZFO copyright violations, real or perceived). Remove these, and MNN will be able to reinstate them on the feed.
2. Nick either apologises for his immature behaviour over the incident, or waits out the 20 days or so that his ban has left.
See my response on the main thread about this.

Those steps were already taken before the whole de-listing and ban.

Stop fibbing. You're continuing to insult the INS and MNN administrators and threatening boycotts and DoS attacks, and you haven't removed the offending posts from the MWG.

Why are posts offensive? Since when does news and/or marketing efforts count as "unfavorable" news? Who gets to decide?
That's it, I'm done with the MNN.

The one that I quoted earlier. Perhaps rather than ranting, a little reading would be in order. MNN gets to decide because we don't harbour the pretension that we're above the law. The posts violate the MNN feed Terms of Service, given that they render us potentially legally liable for promoting your self-confessed piracy.

The MNN is popular, easy to use, but hardly indispensable. I'm sure that the ownersould be just as pleased to be rid of "troublemakers" and lower the level of debate. (Debate is currently being curtailed by the simple expedient of erasing it.)
Can't have pesky "freedom of speech", now, can we?

Stop dressing this up to be a freedom of speech issue: it's a simple case of legal liability.

As I see it now, the freedom of speech issue revolves around the MNN-decision to ban discussion about the issue on MNN where it belongs.
Are you speaking as Grand Vizier or MNN-admin.?
As Steward, having read His Niftyness' instructions, I am walking away from the issue, for now, at least.
This conversation needs to take place somewhere, as it is now a Banned Subject at MNN.
Maybe MNO would oblige?

I'm writing with no particular hat on. The matter is closed on MNN because it can be discussed elsewhere and Nick was not willing to be respectful over the issue.

I think we are running into cross-culture problems regarding such terms as "respectful".
Probably best handled off the forum.
ed. for spelling

I don't know if I would say that Nick's conduct is necessarily how all Americans would define "respectful", if you're trying to contrast American notions of respect with, say, Australian ones. I do think it was quite tyrranical and stupid of Liam to declare the discussion finished and suppress debate--and there, I am willing to make a cultural contrast. The majority of Anticans are Americans, and I think that is why being told that the issue is no longer to be discussed and that we are to accept what is largely perceived as an unjust decision without further argument is so hateful to us.
This whole affair is a nasty business, and it would seem to me that Liam's unwillingness to discuss the issue any further is an overreaction to Foghorn's (I think, rather mild, considering the circumstances) rudeness. I'm not entirely sure whose argument (that is to say, where argument was not marred by personal attacks or simple refusal to talk anymore about it) was the correct one; now, I think, we shall never really know.

I believe particular onus was placed on the comparison to the term nazi. The next time one gets into a tiff with him, try "fascist" or even "Bolshevik", see how those work.

Nazi was a perfectly applicable comparison. He was attempting (and succeeding, by the way) to filter the media in a manner that allowed only certain viewpoints to be expressed, namely those that aren't mine. Perhaps I jumped on Godwin's back too soon, but even after apologizing, he wouldn't re-open debate, further proving his pig-headed, fascist ways.
But now we have a new system with technical, policy based, and quality superiority over the MNN. We just need to complete the process of getting the MNN sources to join.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to set up a system as complex as this blind? I mean, we don't even have the documentation available anymore. Give me time and I'll give you working links in the little box. Everything else works.

I'm not complaining!
It is Awesome, already, and will only become more so!!
And I had no idea you were doing this blind.

The links work in the main listing, don't they?
EDIT: The only problematic ones seem to be from the KZFO feed. Eh, I like to think of this as Disneyland. If at first you don't succeed, make it.
