We don't appear to be having too much activity at the moment. Is that because of me being on holiday and with erratic internet access, because of no one invading us, or something else?
Is there a simple solution?
Is there a complex solution?
Is there a solution that exists in both the complex and rational planes?
Is this even a problem?
Why am I continually asking questions?
And when will I stop?

I think most of us just spent our breaks playing with guns and bombs in other threads during the recwar. After stopping the original paradrop, not much was happening here, so it all moved to the other continent. I'm trying right now to interest Duke Jacobus in some of my people and supplies for his expedition. And now that you're back perhaps we can coordinate something duchy-wide. I think there are only 4 of us here in Kildare altogether.

Well, technically I'm away until the 17th, so I'm trying not to get too involved in anything until then ...
But yes, only four of us ... recruitment time, perhaps?

I believe so, yes, but we have to have something to recruit with. Perhaps we can conspire to come up with something sufficiently attractive for new citizens. Of course, this is a huge population compared with when I was Kaiseress over a country of only about 6 active people. It's wonderful things are so active in the country again. Have a great rest of your vacation.

Thank you.
The
YMS Kaiser Mors V will put into Port Nevermore tomorrow for supplies and to load volutnteers.
The Airships, lead by the
Emperor Joseph are flying cover, and need to pick up fresh water and sand for ballast.
This is almost as much fun as piracy

Well I'll make a quick try ... lemme see ...
Philosophy is taken by the Order.
Yardistan has craziness and annexation downpacked.
Straylight has Democracy downpacked, but who needs that anyway ...
Brookshire appears to have fancy map making there ...
Though some of the Froyalinians have some of that too ...
Hmm, what does that leave us. History? Just not the bit before our time ... good, but not great for activity.
Magic - could try that again, but I don't think its going to work properly anywhere but Tokidoki.
How about starting some ancient traditions? Logically we had some before, and yes, it's not a real tradition unless no one can remember how it started, but if no one remembers it at all it's no good, so lets start some new ones ....
That's about the extent of my thoughts so far. That, and where you going to convince your daughter to rejoin?

Duke Jacobus--
Supplies will be waiting at the docks, as well as some willing and perhaps some shanghied sailors for you. I hope you don't mind, but some of our pirates want to come along for the "opportunities" that might present themselves. You'll have to keep them in order with harsh treatment if you wish this voyage to remain in your control. I will leave it to you to decide whether they will make a good addition to your complement. Good success on your endeavor, Sir.

Andreas--
Kildare (before my time) had a duke who was also a dragon (Gryphon the Pure, et. al.), and his lady, Hypatia Agnesi, who was also high priestess of Ryvenna, goddess of kink, whose favorite home was a massive pine where she was surrounded and served by her wood nymphs. We also had all sorts of assorted wackiness, including Bill, the Soloaralist (ask sometime). I am afraid I am not able to pull those off. My imagination doesn't run that far. We may have to come up with a new plan, as you said. I'm open to additional suggestions. My IM name is Hypatias mom. I'd love to discuss this privately.
It doesn't look like my daughter is planning a return anytime soon, unfortunately. She is now involved in live gaming, as well as working full time and planning her wedding. I don't think she has given much thought to Shireroth in awhile.

Well, I do love that magic sort of thing and have the imagination to pull it off ... we'll see if Nick or Jonas are interested.
Other than that, I very rarely use IM, but I can pm you my email if you want ...

IM me at Hypatias mom, or PM me with your e-mail address, and we can discuss this offline or in a duchywide chat.

Gmail Chat is the way of the future, people!
But if not that, MSN is the only one I know how to use ...

I'm on gmail chat... as rrakanychan... that's what I am on everything that I'm on.

I'm on Trillian, but I seem to be able to receive messages from anyone who is using Instant Messaging. Just get an account--free, on any medium--and add us in.

We are all information to be harvested. The only alternative is to unplug.

Hypatias Mom, do we want to start by developing the different races we have in Kildare - like the Mel'anje, the Halluci (which I know were developed but have been lost), your pirates etc?

That actually might be a good idea. I just have a hazy notion of my own group, and virtually none of any of the others. I would frankly love to see this fleshed out.

There's a good start then. Since we haven't been able to catch on IM, I'll post my other ideas tommorow morning ...

Ok, here goes, in the order that I remembered them:
1. I'm "the wise", and you said various Shirithians have come to you for advice ... we could portray Kildare as the Duchy full of wisdom and learning that others come to for ... advice (I'm trying to steer away from the word counselling, but can't think of another that I haven't used yet).
2. Magic and fantasy have always been a big part of the duchy. So why not keep them going. As any Gralan will tell you, I'm very good with working pre-existing things into my histories - so, tell me what you recall of stuff (or link me to the relevant posts), and soon I'll be happily telling which mountains dragons live in, where the best Balrogs are, and where all the little dwarves or goblins are hiding ...
3. We've also always been a very historical duchy, so lets keep that up. Not great for activity though ...
4. How do you all feel about Pirates? Cause I know this great Piracy game I ran in Novatainia to great success, and I think it would work well here in Shireroth too ...
5. That Duchal Council Jonas wanted could do more.
6. Development of Counties and Wikifying are always encouraged ...

I like it, and I also would love to go with your idea about a shattered mirror. You might have read the old histories of Barony Vorpmadal--they went with a Through the Looking Glass theme. We could extend it to Kildare also. It would fit, I think, especially in Hallucination. I really think you should IM or e-mail my daughter. She said no one has tried to contact her, and won't get involved again if no one is really interested in her input. Her e-mail is
little_ribbit_2003@yahoo.com. She had a lot of really good ideas for Kildare, and was heavily involved while Joseph was Duke.
I like the pirate theme, but I don't know where to take it. If you have ideas, I would love to get your input. I would also love to revive my Port Nevermore Center. We really didn't have too much activity, but it has promise as a:
1. training site
2. epedition equipping source
3. crew, guide, expert source
4. source for the unusual or impossible-to-find item, of any type
5. receiver of said items, no questions asked
6. "slightly" seedy, dockyard location, near pirate village, ensuring interesting interactions between customers, students at center and pirates, with all that might imply
