Jewish? With a capital letter? Do you mean the people or the religion?
In Dutch we write it without capital letter...

Jonas--
In English we write both the people and the religion with a capital letter. And we do have at least one Jewish Shirithian, albeit not currently a citizen. His contributions to Shireroth and to micronationry are legendary, and he has had a great part in helping to shape Shireroth.
Shalom!!

Ah. I extend my felicitations to all of the Jewish faith. I misinterpreted your name as Jewish. I apologize, and meant no disrespect. Jess, Scott, and whoever else is of that faith, Shalom to you.

Metzler is a jewish name? I thought it was german for butcher... though I think it more accurately comes out as "slaughterer".

Quite often, Jewish families are often of German decent. Hence the stereotype that all Jewish people have a last name like "Goldstein" or "Schwarz". Actually, someone in a math class I'm taking is named Weil. (weil = because auf Deutsch) SHE IS BECAUSE!

No, that's "Metz
ger". And "slaughterer" would be "Schlachter".

What about Fleischer? Isn't that meat-carrier or something?

I think that's synonymous with "Metzger".

I'm pretty sure when used as a sir name Metzler and Metzger are the same.. according to the research I did... but it's less used...
and slaughterer in the meat sense not in a killer of people sense?

Well, "Schlachter" can go both ways, but typically means it in the meat sense. :P

Metzger and Fleischer are pretty much the same thing...
Metzler, I really have no idea. It does sound german, and I'm pretty sure it is. It might be some awkward dialect...
