So far, my favourite track from these, in terms of evocativeness, is Cold Tectonics. I don't think I will ever get around to researching and thinking about how you actually would do mining on the seabed, but this track makes it easy to imagine how it would be like:
You're contorted in a cramped space inside a rusty, ritchety mining machine. It's older than your grandfather, the only way it's still working is that it's been kept patched up for decades, with equipment whose only constant is cheapness. There's a kilometer of cold, heavy water above you, waiting to drown you the moment the miner's hull finally gives in. Your only lifeline to the outside world is a thin coaxial cable, as there's basically no other way to communicate over seawater that's pitch black with the muck you're raising from the seafloor. You're listening to every sound the machine makes, because you know that if anything important breaks, there's a fair chance you'll never make it out alive. You're in a place where no man is supposed to go, and you're there all alone. You try to pretend otherwise, of course, joking with your colleagues over the wire, but you're doing this ten hours a day, six hours a week, and there's only so much that you can talk about... even if all you want to do is talk...
